Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Staniland Question is so good. Can we think of others?

The Staniland question:
Do you believe that male-sexed people have the right to undress and shower in a communal changing room with teenage girls?
is so clever. The fact that so many people refuse to engage with it - let alone answer it - means it's a quick, powerful, way of showing how ridiculous the TWAW position is.

Can we think of any others that would be as effective? Maybe we could come up with 5 or so really sharp questions that TRAs could refuse to answer. My first thoughts are something along the lines of:
Why is it racist to identify as another race but stunning and brave to identify as another sex?
I'm sure somebody can word that better.

So any suggestions? The questions need to be short and clear.

"Given that rape can legally only be committed by a person with a penis, does the risk to women and girls of rape increase, decrease or stay the same when male-bodied people are admitted into spaces where they were previously not allowed?"

If a 6ft 5 male identifies as a woman, is it safe for them to join a woman’s rugby team?

SecondRow · 17/02/2021 11:42

My one is

If one male on a women's rugby team is ok, are 15 males ok?

CaraDuneRedux · 17/02/2021 11:43

Do you think we should separate men's and women's sports, or do you think we should just have a single "open" category?

merrymouse · 17/02/2021 11:43

@Packingsoapandwater

I think there's something to be said about infamous figures.

So "does everyone have the right to self identify as a woman, even if they happen to be, say, Ted Bundy?"

The problem with that is that there are also infamous female offenders and people tend to assume that somebody like Ted Bundy would be held in a different kind of unit anyway.

Do you believe trans men convicts should be placed in a male prison even if they don't want to be?

That's a great one @Collidascope

If a female identifies as a man and is still partnered with a man, does that make them a gay man? Are you comfortable with them receiving funding set aside for gay men and speaking on behalf of the gay men’s community?

Labobo · 17/02/2021 11:56

What is the difference between a man and a woman?

My super-woke DS1 would say: That question isn't relevant because the trans movement is about people who have been born into the wrong sex. So they are women in men's bodies and therefore non-binary. And actually, I'd agree with him that this question can get closed down very quickly. He also says the bathroom argument is a straw man because there have been no cases ever of men posing as transwomen to access women's loos and changing rooms in order to assault women. I would love to know if he is correct on this.

We had such a long discussion about this recently. At least it didn't dissolve into a row. And to be fair to him he did say my constantly pressing the feminist argument has led him to realise it is a lot more complicated than he once thought .

MingeofDeath · 17/02/2021 12:00

Do you think that there is a such a thing as a woman with a penis/man with a vagina?

malloo · 17/02/2021 12:05

If all transwomen are women then are all women transwomen? If not, why not?
Can any woman be a transwoman? If not, why not?

I find this a quicker way of getting to what the essential difference is.

CaraDuneRedux · 17/02/2021 12:05

@MingeofDeath

Do you think that there is a such a thing as a woman with a penis/man with a vagina?
Follow up question: does that make a lesbian or gay man who refuses to entertain the idea of sex with women with penises/men with vulvas transphobic?
ChakaDakotaRegina · 17/02/2021 12:05

Has your son seen this? A 10 year old girl.
Does he know 98% of convicted sex offenders are male?

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6814599/Transgender-woman-18-sexually-assaulted-girl-10-Morrisons-female-toilets.html

CranberriesChoccyAgain · 17/02/2021 12:07

If aggressive men can enter a women's toilet at any time if they really wanted to assault a woman, why do transwomen think it's safer in there than the men's toilets?

merrymouse · 17/02/2021 12:08

That question isn't relevant because the trans movement is about people who have been born into the wrong sex.

And they know they are in the wrong body because...?

Meanwhile does he think that men in women's bodies would have been allowed to vote before 1918? before 1928 if they were under 30? Would they be allowed to drive cars in Saudi Arabia before 2018? Why?

He also says the bathroom argument is a straw man because there have been no cases ever of men posing as transwomen to access women's loos and changing rooms in order to assault women.

What changes would he make to his appearance to pose as a woman, and why would they be unsuitable for a man?

I don't think there is one simple killer question that will suddenly enlighten people, just lots of questions, that might make them think.

Mermoose · 17/02/2021 12:11

My super-woke DS1 would say: That question isn't relevant because the trans movement is about people who have been born into the wrong sex. So they are women in men's bodies and therefore non-binary

I'd say first of all, he's incorrect in saying that the woke opinion is that a transwoman is non-binary.

But also, this just shows the relevance of the meaning of man and woman - if a woman can be born in a man's body, what does that mean? Why is it a man's body? Why is the person really a woman?

It's great that he's having these discussions with you though.

CaraDuneRedux · 17/02/2021 12:14

Actually, that's a good question.

What does it mean to say someone feels like they've been born in the wrong body?

Mermoose · 17/02/2021 12:20

I do find it interesting that most people who think they believe in all this stuff, don't, when it comes to it, know exactly what it is they're meant to believe. For example - TW are not born in men's bodies, there is no such thing as a man's body, sex is a construct and a penis belonging to someone who identifies as female is a female organ.

In my experience most people who try to defend the ideology end up at some point saying something that is, by orthodox standards, transphobic.

Astraturf · 17/02/2021 12:20

Why do they interfere with the sexual development of children if they agree that sex and gender are different?

What contraceptives are supplied to guides when they go on over night trips?

Nellodee · 17/02/2021 12:26

If a transwoman believes they are both a transwoman and a man, are they a woman?

malloo · 17/02/2021 12:36

Should women ever have the right to say no to men?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/02/2021 12:38

What do I as a woman have in common with all MTF trans people that I don't also have in common with all males?

Wandawomble · 17/02/2021 12:39

Do you think children are capable of understanding the long term effects on their emotional state and their future relationship and sex lives, to not go through their own puberty and have chemicals put into their body to put them through the puberty of the other sex?

slug · 17/02/2021 12:39

If trans people are born in the wrong body, can the same be said for a child with Down's syndrome? [insert birth defect/disability of choice here] If not, why not? Couldn't they just identify out of their disability?

Wandawomble · 17/02/2021 12:41

What is the difference between gender dysphoria and anorexia? Why should we not operate on anorexics and remove their ribs? Why should we remove the healthy breast tissue of girls?

StellaAndCrow · 17/02/2021 12:42

I saw this on Twitter - it might be by someone here. It's not a question exactly, but I thought it was good.
