Staniland Question is so good. Can we think of others?

The Staniland question:
Do you believe that male-sexed people have the right to undress and shower in a communal changing room with teenage girls?
is so clever. The fact that so many people refuse to engage with it - let alone answer it - means it's a quick, powerful, way of showing how ridiculous the TWAW position is.

Can we think of any others that would be as effective? Maybe we could come up with 5 or so really sharp questions that TRAs could refuse to answer. My first thoughts are something along the lines of:
Why is it racist to identify as another race but stunning and brave to identify as another sex?
I'm sure somebody can word that better.

So any suggestions? The questions need to be short and clear.

Should laws be relaxed to make it easier for male bodied sexual predators to access women's toilets and prisons?

Should female prisoners have to share showers with male bodied prisoners if the latter say they are women?

If a rugby game was played where one team was made up entirely of transwomen and the other of transmen.
Which would you put money on to win?

Should the Geneva Convention be changed to allow male prisoners of war , if they say they are women, to share cells with female prisoners of war ?

Should female refugees be housed with male refugees if these males say they are women?

BahHumbygge · 17/02/2021 17:07

Can you outline the main similarities and differences between a transwoman and a woman?
Which of those have the most substantive impact on the life path of the individuals concerned, particularly with regard to career progression and earning potential?

***

If transwomen are women, what objective aspects are they actually identifying as?
If womanhood is determined by an internal sense of gender identity, how do I know whether I am a woman or not, when I can only know that I feel like myself?

Just be kind

Do you think it is kind to put a TW male bodied rapist in jail as a cell mate to a woman who has PTSD from child sexual abuse or domestic violence?

If toilet (and other facilities) provision is now designated by gender rather than sex, what facilities do people use who do not identify as having a gender? Does that not force unwilling people into accepting a gender they do not want? Is that not sexist, in that it's saying that womanhood is contingent on femininity and manhood is contingent on masculinity?

Should refugees be locked up in makeshift detention centres when they have not committed a crime?

Should refugee families be split up and in some cases forced to part with their children so that detention centres can be sex segragated?

Why does jj think that males should choose what females are allowed to say and do? Why does jj think that women don't deserve the rights that they fought for? What is the difference between jj and all us women saying no?

Of course not, but we're not talking about the UK's somewhat appalling attitude to asylum seekers, so I'm not quite sure why you posted that? Confused
ArabellaScott · 17/02/2021 17:19

If transwomen want access to women's spaces to escape males, why aren't women allowed to ask for single sex spaces where they can escape males?

334bu · 17/02/2021 17:19

As transwomen are statistically just as likely to be violent sex offenders as other males, should we allow them to access female only safe spaces?

ArabellaScott · 17/02/2021 17:19

In what way are 'transwomen women'? What do they share with women?

Harriedharriet · 17/02/2021 17:20

I think that all questions about women's rights or female safety are pretty useless in the context of the op's question. Sadly - the people advocating for self id and #nodebate do not care AT ALL about women and girls. Actually, I think part of all of this is the thrill of dismantelling everything.
Therefore when trying to talk to the rest of the population thought provoking questions about biology and so on may be more effective.
I am surrounded by TWAW including my 13 year old dd, and quite a few respectable journalists. It depresses me no end, and I never know how to argue the point with them.
This movement is insanley aggressive in it's anti woman stance. I have yet to see ANY MTF Transperson declare that all women, indeed all of society, need to be protected from the few but effective aggressive men out there.

titchy · 17/02/2021 17:20

As an aside though are asylum seeker children separated from parents?

jj1968 · 17/02/2021 17:20

@titchy

It was in response to this.

Should female refugees be housed with male refugees if these males say they are women?

Nellodee · 17/02/2021 17:22

If a transwoman feels that they are a woman, are they a woman?
If a transwoman feels that they are still a man, are they a woman?
If I do not feel that I am a woman, am I a woman?
Am I a woman?
Can we tell whether someone is a man or woman from the outside?
Should we always believe people are what they say they are?

wellthatsunusual · 17/02/2021 17:22

But how would any potential abuser know she was trans? Surely any trans woman or girl of any age who 'passes' would be at equal risk to any other woman using men's spaces. It's possible an abuser might stop halfway through when he realises, it's equally possible he might then beat her up for deceiving him, but neither of these prospects brings much comfort.

They don't pass. And even in the hypothetical scenario above why does the fact that a man dressed as a woman may be at risk in the men's facilities mean that each and every man should be allowed to use the women's? What is the logic?

Nellodee · 17/02/2021 17:34

The important thing isn't the risk that a person is at from being in a place (otherwise everyone would be in the women's), it's the risk they pose by being there.

ListeningQuietly · 17/02/2021 17:34

How would an A&E doctor decide the gender of a naked unconscious patient?

If, as some say, TWAW,
what are the identifying features on the body that make a trans person NOT their biological sex?

But that was a question on sex separation, not on the principle of being locked up.

334bu · 17/02/2021 17:42

Should women patients be asked to sleep next to a male bodied patient in an unsupervised bay on a hospital ward?

MildredPuppy · 17/02/2021 17:54

@jj1968

Yes of course. The child is male, will look like a boy at that age (girls and boys look the same pre-puberty), has a penis and will a urinal.

Sorry but are you arguing that somebody who everyone assumes is a little girl including potential sexual predators is safe in male spaces?

Okay next question, is the risk to women from a 10 year old trans girl using women's spaces greater than the risk to a 10 year old trans girl were she expected to use men's spaces?

I actually have something to say about this. Male children are at risk from sexual preditors at a very similar rate to female children. It is the vulnerability of a child that paedophiles tend to prey on rather than their sex/gender and they are mainly other men that are the preditors. As a mum of boys one of the scariest things is when you start letting your son go into public toilets alone. I cant offer them a sex segregated space to offer them protection but i do take other precuations.

In your scenario i think all 10 year old children, male or female, trans would be safer in the female space in fact many men would be safer in a female soace too. However, the reason it is safer is because males who have gone through puberty have been excluded.

The toilets are for females only to protect women not children, although some women are children. So the question is still does the presence of a male make it less safe for women not does the introduction of males make it safer for them.

(Im not personally fussed by pre-puberty boys using the ladies but i respect some women are especially by the age of 10)

Flapjak · 17/02/2021 17:56

What are the differences between a transwoman and a transman.

Women and men have different signs / symptoms leading up to a heart attack. If a trans person of the male sex reports symptoms usually associated with males and not females how should the dr proceed given that to consider the person to have a male body could be intepreted as transphobic .

BahHumbygge · 17/02/2021 18:00

Would/should a transwoman be barred from adopting a particular dog who has behavioural issues arising from being terrified of men? Do animals, when perceiving humans, notice their sex or their gender? Aside from the huge capacity of humans to have society/culture/technology, are humans not also biological animals with a strong ability to correctly sex people? Why should humans be so exceptional as to have "genders", rather than "sexes", to dichotomise the human species? What role do these "genders" play with regard to human endeavours, advancement and continuity besides individualistic self-actualisation?
