This short film with Mhairi reading out (mostly respectful) comments from women is really sad. I have always admired her but like many politicians she is unable to comprehend the issues women are raising. She says there is no evidence or legitimacy in our concerns. Oh well.

Just watched it and utterly dismayed she could spout such shit. How can the amazing Joan mcalpine and joanna cherry be in the same party as her?

ChesterDrawsDoesntExist · 03/07/2019 20:52

Can't stand that bloody woman anyway so this doesn't surprise me. I guess it's not okay to be 'transphobic' but she's a-ok with being a racist.

EeveePHD · 03/07/2019 20:56

I could say pot, kettle & black.

Branleuse · 03/07/2019 21:03

I used to think she was brilliant. She has great views on some things, but very disappointed in her ideas of spiritual feelings of feminine essence that make someone a woman

poshme · 03/07/2019 21:04

I came on here straight after seeing it.

Just disappointing. I just don't understand how women can't see what they're enabling to happen.

Gone2far · 03/07/2019 21:10

I'd love to know which Women's Organisations she spoken to.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 03/07/2019 21:12

I'm always surprised and disappointed when people are really admire do something so totally crass that shows that while they are good in one area they are lamentably ignorant in others.

The way she mocked respectful factual questions (without answering them) spoke volumes.

I was particularly dismayed at her saying that women have no right to their own spaces, despite this being enshrined in the equality act.

On the plus side while this video will play well to the woke minority, it is going to peak am awful lot of people.

I'd guess Engender etc

Gone2far · 03/07/2019 21:13

So disingenuous to mix abusive tweets with those from people with genuine concerns. And what's with the New Age music wafting around in the background?

MenstruatorExtraordinaire · 03/07/2019 21:22

Couldn't bear to watch it. She is such a massive disappointment. Along with most other politicians tbh.

Elletorro · 03/07/2019 21:24

She is so entrenched that there’s probably very little point engaging with her.

It’s interesting how she dismisses statistics and the diagnosis of autogynaphilia as though both were proof of bigotry. If she’s so committed to her views that she refuses to consider evidence that might undermine them then I don’t know how one proceeds.

i think she’s actually really stressed out too.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 03/07/2019 21:31

Yes. But that's ok. There's no point in trying to challenge the faith of an evangelist. But the vast majority of folk on the street who hear about this for the fist time will think the TWAW mantra is bonkers.

No point in trying to change the minds of TRAs. Just need to get the issue on the radar of as many people as possible. The TRA cult cannot survive daylight.

Melroses · 03/07/2019 21:31

Cognitive dissonance.

LassOfFyvie · 03/07/2019 21:32

I always thought she was awful. The esteem Mhairi Black was held on here always surprised me. Her only talent seems to be swearing a lot in a working class accent.

Iggypoppie · 03/07/2019 21:37

She looks really stressed, she's obviously under pressure. I feel for genuine people in politics, this issue is not a clear cut one, right v left, tories v socialism etc. I requires research and clarity. I took a long time to read up before I truly understood the issues at stake. I'm not sure Mhairi will have had chance to catch her breath never mind take time to form a considered opinion.

Luckily feminism is for all women, even those with whom we disagree.

@LassOfFyvie so far, for me, she has been a breath of fresh air in Westminster. She's a skilled orator and she comes across as genuine and passionate.

I expect Ms Black is too young to have experienced the full majesty of the AGP 'lesbian' trying to catch her eye.

LassOfFyvie · 03/07/2019 21:48

A word which gets used a lot on here is "handmaiden". It's not a word I use but Black seems to fit your (general your) definition.

Why is Black getting so many excuses on here ? (under pressure/ stretched/ no time to catch her breath)

She had plenty of time to cobble that video together. I'm sure it's a top pressing concern to her constituents.

LassOfFyvie · 03/07/2019 21:51

I don't really care about peaking people but if it helps her to lose her seat come the next general election, then great.

Elletorro · 03/07/2019 22:00

I’m not giving her any excuses.

She seems shallow, self important and hasty to dismiss contrary views rather than engage with them.

ThatCurlyGirl · 03/07/2019 22:12

Fucking hell I feel so let down after watching that.

No matter what opinion I had of her before (which for the record was that she was a breath of fresh air, super smart and genuinely passionate) the tone of flippancy, smug wokeness and "aren't these people stupid" faces...

She doesn't get it.

Why do so many politicians not get it?

Why do so many people not get it?

The world has gotten so woke in principle it's blind to reality.

nauticant · 03/07/2019 22:19

She is so ignorant while being certain of her own righteousness that I actually found that hard to watch.

I did though because I want to be informed about what other people think, even if I disagree strongly with them.

nauticant · 03/07/2019 22:21

Also, the trick of reading sensible comments interspersed with misogyny and abuse to create guilt by association is very dishonest.

JackyHolyoake · 03/07/2019 22:22

As an objective observer, my view of Ms Black has always been that she is reading the script of others ... none of her words have ever seemed authentic to me. She has always come across to me as an SNP puppet whose strings are being manipulated by someone else.

My interpretation has always been that the puppet master is the top tier of SNP who use her to say their words.
