This short film with Mhairi reading out (mostly respectful) comments from women is really sad. I have always admired her but like many politicians she is unable to comprehend the issues women are raising. She says there is no evidence or legitimacy in our concerns. Oh well.

Rather like Fleabag, Love Island and quinoa, the appeal of MB has passed me by - seems I was right to be unimpressed.

Elletorro · 03/07/2019 22:27

Nauticant

Is that bait and switch? Or motte and bailey?

If it’s consciously done then I’m actually appalled by her video. That crosses a line into pure propaganda.

littlbrowndog · 03/07/2019 22:31

Mhairi Black.
Has not a critical thought in her head. Just as always thought and been proved

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 03/07/2019 22:41

As an objective observer, my view of Ms Black has always been that she is reading the script of others ... none of her words have ever seemed authentic to me. She has always come across to me as an SNP puppet whose strings are being manipulated by someone else.

My interpretation has always been that the puppet master is the top tier of SNP who use her to say their words.

This. With added "isn't she awesome because she's young and she swears?"

#too old to be impressed.

Kilbranan · 03/07/2019 22:50

Yup she comes across as a total fanny in that video tbh. What a disappointment. I can’t imagine her constituents being happy if their daughter has to share a changing room with a be-penised person and she may well find that her support fades away unless she wises up about the reality of being a woman and the effect of biology
I’m gutted to find out she has no ability to engage her brain and would rather go along with the woke tide

Evenquieterlife33 · 03/07/2019 22:57

Just watched it. It’s shameful. She sounds like rent-a-gob. It’s all very well being young and not knowing all the facts but do some actual two sided research before you broadcast yourself slating women. She is a paid M.P. SNP just retweeted the vid too. Morons.

ZebrasAreBras · 03/07/2019 23:37

I liked her when I listened to her maiden speech in Parliament. And she was the youngest MP wasn't she?

But unfortunately, she has proved to be very ignorant on the topic of women's rights, and how they are under threat from men declaring themselves women.

CardinalCat · 03/07/2019 23:45

She cares more about being seen to be woke than just about anything else. And skilled orators don't love the sound of their own voices as much as she does. She's a cretin. And, if her now deleted Twitter history is to be believed, a foul-mouthed sectarian bigot, which makes her stance even more ridiculous.

Gingerkittykat · 03/07/2019 23:47

Damn it, I loved Mhairi Black until now.

I think she is an excellent role model, an MP at the age of 21, a genuine working class voice speaking out against the Westminster elite. Alex Salmond offered to give her a stylist but she said no and just kept being herself. She's openly lesbian and has campaigned for WASPI women.

And now this. She can't even acknowledge the right for women only spaces, saying nobody has the right to be in a room on their own. I really can't believe the utter lack of logic there.

Keeptrudging · 03/07/2019 23:54

I'm not surprised at Mhairi Black posting this, she's made it pretty clear what her views are. She can bask in the likes on twitter. It will be a whole different story on the doirsteps, trying to sell this to voters who don't live in her wee bubble.

What I am really, really gutted to see, is this being posted on the actual SNP page. So much for reopening the consultation and having a respectful debate.

ZebrasAreBras · 04/07/2019 00:06

Mhairi says "Pam" doesn't have a right to be in a room alone wherever she goes. Pam didn't ask for that. Pam asked to not share intimate spaces with men.

Discussing autogynephilia is not "old school homophobia".

Transwomen are not more likely to die in the UK. Statistically they are less likely to be murdered than the general population.

Fighting to defend women's rights is not transphobic.

TurboTeddy · 04/07/2019 00:08

I see now why she became the youngest MP to ever sit in the house of commons, her level of self belief despite so much evidence that her assertions are wrong is quite impressive. She seems to have learned that successful politicians never let ignorance act as a barrier to offering an opinion!

I note she disagreed with all the comments she read out but didn't have any evidence to support her opposition. She acknowledged that the trans umbrella has grown to the extent that anyone could identify as trans and then uses all the discredited stats to deny autogynephilia whilst criticising someone else's use of stats and logic. Which is it, we're all trans or nobody would endure all that trans people have to endure for a sexual fetish? I agree, epic logic fail.

I think in summary she just said that we're all bigotted, transphobic, homophobic, mysoginistic (?) cunts. Did I miss out any insults?

ZebrasAreBras · 04/07/2019 00:15

She also called us "uneducated" I think, TurboTeddy.

We women who have been around the block a bit - and can see the obvious threat to women's rights here - obviously need to be sent to Gulag for "re-education."

She's always been a bit student politics. She's a good speaker and she appeals as she's genuine but she doesn't get the bigger picture.

RJnomore1 · 04/07/2019 00:20

She’s a fucking muppet.

ZebrasAreBras · 04/07/2019 00:22

lolhq Have a read of this document from workers in dv shelters, and people who work with vulnerable children before you call people with concerns "transphobic":

fovas.wordpress.com/response-to-stonewall-2/

These are real concerns - vulnerable women and children cannot be collateral damage, or instruments of validation for men who identify as women.

OccasionalKite · 04/07/2019 00:23

Hello, ZebrasAreBras!
We women who have been around the block a bit - and can see the obvious threat to women's rights here - obviously need to be sent to Gulag for "re-education."

I'll be joining you in that gulag.
But the very idea is bloody chilling, though.

ZebrasAreBras · 04/07/2019 00:25

I reckon we'll be in good company, Kite Wink

Smellbowpenisbeaker · 04/07/2019 00:26

Hmm. I actually thought, sadly, that was quite well put together. The interspersing of some well reasoned questions with genuinely hostile ones means it’s easier to put across the idea that we’re all hysterical harpies.

lady69 · 04/07/2019 00:29

She is a gobshite. The shouty sweariness is a bi

lady69 · 04/07/2019 00:30

..Bit tired these days. She is ignorant and has no true life experience.

ZebrasAreBras · 04/07/2019 00:31

This topic, incidentally, makes me think about the act of veto.

I recently heard Miranda Yardley alluding to it, in an interview with a transwoman.

If a group of women are happy to let transwomen (males) into women's spaces, and a group of women aren't, who do we listen to? was the question posed. Miranda was sharp on it - "we listen to the group who aren't happy."

Women who aren't happy about sharing spaces with transwomen, or having everything converted to mixed sex spaces - should have the power of veto.

Aspley · 04/07/2019 00:32

I would have far more respect for her once she practices what she preaches and gets with some 'girl-dick'.
I imagine she will accuse me of homophobia for suggesting that. But Mhairi, you are defending a profoundly homophobic movement. Have some respect and open your eyes. What is a lesbian Mhairi? What is a lesbian?

Nikhedonia · 04/07/2019 00:39

MB is a lesbian. I wonder if she would be attracted to someone who identified as a woman, but had no physically female attributes. She must be, otherwise (according to TRA's) she's transphobic, right?
