This short film with Mhairi reading out (mostly respectful) comments from women is really sad. I have always admired her but like many politicians she is unable to comprehend the issues women are raising. She says there is no evidence or legitimacy in our concerns. Oh well.

I mean how can you be a female MP and not know that there are 14,000 men in prison for sex offences and 120 women???

And because transwomens crimes are reported as being committed by women how can we be sure those 120 women are actually even women?

LassOfFyvie · 04/07/2019 13:17

Thanks Jessica.

I can't get over the hypocrisy of using Jeremy Hunt's name as a rhyming slang insult for women. I mean I'm pretty shocked at her calling other women cunts but that's the icing on the top.

She probably thinks Jeremy Hunt is a Tory cunt and deserves no better but it's part of the absolute beginners lesson for anti- bullying and being respectful. You don't make fun or ridicule people about the way they look or their names or other personal attributes.

Good god. I didn't watch the video on first reading of this thread but I have just done so now. That is outrageous behaviour of an elected MP, to sneer publicly at concerns raised. I am really shocked!

JessicaWakefieldSV · 04/07/2019 13:26

Ok wow, she’s both lazy and misogynist then. Go and do what you’re paid to do Mhairi!

Aspley · 04/07/2019 13:28

Imagine the universal condemnation that would have happened if a male Tory MP had produced such an anti-woman video (complete with calling women c*nts).

Does Black somehow think she is immune from critisism?

2Rebecca · 04/07/2019 13:29

I think young MPs are a mistake, Ross Greer as MSP is another bad decision. MPs should have to live in the real world as adults for a few years and have a non political job before being MPS, none of this study PPE or law and then become a political intern stuff. There should be a minimum and maximum age. 30-70 say.

Ereshkigal · 04/07/2019 13:34

She doesn't seem to understand the horrific murder rates of trans sex workers in South America isn't a particularly credible argument to make when discussing changes to UK law. Either that or she's happy to exploit their deaths in order to justify dismissing women's concerns about self ID.

This.

Lumene · 04/07/2019 13:35

How cringeworthily embarrassing for her.

Datun · 04/07/2019 13:39

I'm still struggling to get over that T-shirt. Who on earth made it??

Doesn't she realise how tone deaf it is, and at the same time creepy as fuck.

Who wears a T-shirt advocating that others come and urinate next to them?

Even if it's trying to be inclusive, it's unnecessarily graphic and horribly naive.

No-one wants to pee next to anyone, surely?

JessicaWakefieldSV · 04/07/2019 13:39

Imagine the universal condemnation that would have happened if a male Tory MP had produced such an anti-woman video (complete with calling women cnts).*

Exactly

Elletorro · 04/07/2019 13:41

I find her body language to be aggressive and intimidating. She scares me.

Aspley · 04/07/2019 13:41

@2Rebecca

100% there should be minimum qualifications for MPs and one should be a specified length of employment in a real job/business.

Don't care what job (builder/brain surgeon) anything, other than some kind of lacky for a politician/political party

littlbrowndog · 04/07/2019 13:49

I don’t think she will be embarrassed at all. She sat down and planned it then seen the edit and approved it

I am surprised that she didn5 see how sneering and showing the contempt that she felt for women she doesn’t agree with when she reviewed it
It really showed to me the sort of person she is.

lakemountain · 04/07/2019 13:51

However, it's important to state that there are no attendance records kept by the HoC, only the HoL, and that Mhairi Black isn't even in the top 10 highest expenses claims. actually there is www.theyworkforyou.com/mp/25269/mhairi_black/paisley_and_renfrewshire_south#numerology

JoyceJeffries · 04/07/2019 13:58

mhairi Black Stiod up and complained in the House of Commons about the horrific misogynistic abuse she has received - being called a cunt being one of them. I actually agreed with her at the time that female MPs get a tough time via social media.

www.heraldscotland.com/news/16070295.mhairi-black-believed-to-be-first-mp-to-use-the-c-word-in-commons-debate-as-she-reveals-torrent-of-online-abuse/

Now Mhairi is calling women who don’t agree with her cunts 🤷‍♀️

LateBloomerintheNorth · 04/07/2019 14:30

Have you seen the number of likes? Nearly 6k. It makes me feel like we're fighting a losing battle Sad

OvaHere · 04/07/2019 14:40

Twitter isn't a good measure of the general population. It appears to lean quite far left as a demographic which is bolstered by the company running it also leaning that way.

Also many people click like without actually watching and critiquing the content (which can apply to any political bubble).

Manderleyagain · 04/07/2019 15:05

I just watched it. Nasty, and contemptuous of the electorate. But, lots of people will be googlin agp.

Doobigetta · 04/07/2019 15:05

Tbh this just confirms m for me that she is too young and doesn’t have enough life experience to be a good MP. We all know everything at 21, you have to live a bit to learn that you aren’t the font of all wisdom. I know that’s not necessarily a popular view. Apart from with other old farts.

nauticant · 04/07/2019 15:45

Twitter isn't a good measure of the general population.

Twitter has a relaxed attitude to the promotion of paedophilia. Many of the people on there promoting their, often startling, interests are on the far fringes, be it Left, Right, or whatever.

OldCrone · 04/07/2019 16:12

100% there should be minimum qualifications for MPs and one should be a specified length of employment in a real job/business.

This could have a disproportionate impact on women with children, meaning that even fewer women go into politics. I agree about a minimum age of 25 or 30, though.

Aspley · 04/07/2019 16:16

@oldcrone
I don't see why it should.
There are very very few women now who have never worked. As I said I wouldn't put a criteria on the job - anything at all would be better than some of the idiots we are now getting.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 04/07/2019 16:23

This could have a disproportionate impact on women with children

I would consider being a mother and raising children as a legitimate role that would cover the requirement for previous proper jobs Smile

DonkeyHohtay · 04/07/2019 16:27

I'm not surprised at all. She's the SNP darling, hotly tipped as the next big thing after Sturgeon. The SNP are mostly for my of the TWAW opinion. Mhairi just being a good little nationalist and toeing the party line.
