Well, that's UKIP done for, then. At least it'll keep him occupied and in plain sight for a bit, I suppose.

MenuPlant · 08/05/2019 15:35

The BBC reporting of this had multiple pics of jess Phillips and none of the odious nob that said this

That irritated me as well although not sure why

happydappy2 · 08/05/2019 15:40

I pity the women in his life.

andyoldlabour · 08/05/2019 15:55

happydappy2

"I pity the women in his life"

There is always the optimism, that there aren't and there never will be - hopefully.

placemats · 08/05/2019 16:11

I do hope this leads to a split in the so called Brexit support for the upcoming EU elections.

I'm being somewhat devil's advocate in this.

User6949671 · 08/05/2019 16:20

I pity the people making snap judgments about BS they read in the paper.it really is one of those times when context matters!

ArfArfBarf · 08/05/2019 16:22

Explain the context which turns that into an acceptable comment User.

RubberTreePlant · 08/05/2019 16:22

UKIP were nearly over anyway. Hopefully this will finish them off.

User6949671 · 08/05/2019 16:26

It was Im Response to a tweet from the woman. It was a satirical answer. It was received as such. It was not an issue until politics became involved and was felt with from both sides.

User6949671 · 08/05/2019 16:27

I don't like the dude either but the whole witch hunt thing seems a bit pathetic. At least pull the guy up on things he has actually done instead of fabricating and pulling crap out a hat.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 08/05/2019 16:37

Didn't you see his 'comedy' routine about tape then? Context my arse.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 08/05/2019 16:37

Rape not tape

User6949671 · 08/05/2019 16:44

If you don't find it funny don't watch it. It's not a personal attack. People can tell the difference between comedy and threats surely? If not that's 99.9% of comedians out of a job as well as most TV presenters, chat show hosts ect. There's always going to be something offensive out there and I'm not saying this dude isn't but it's a total witch hunt same as every time an election comes around it's a new ukip target. Every one get so tied up in knots about how evil they are we always miss the bigger picture elsewhere.
He's a you tuber with a large following so he's always going to have something that rubs someone up the wrong way but I can't help but think in the grand scheme that if this is all they have on the guy he can't be the devil incarnate, a little screwy sure but you know.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 08/05/2019 16:57

Rape isn't funny. Rape threats aren't funny.

MenuPlant · 08/05/2019 17:06

I suppose what he's actually saying is that there are lots of women he would rape, but not her.

So actually she's in a good place there, less so women he deems happy to rape.

MenuPlant · 08/05/2019 17:07

So he might look at another woman and say,

I'd rape her

Hajahaha

?

Erythronium · 08/05/2019 17:10

"if this is all they have on the guy"

It's quite a lot actually - talking about raping women. How bad does it have to get?

TheCrowFromBelow · 08/05/2019 17:13

As to the background - that was totally twisted out of context by him
He is a liar and a thug. There is no acceptable context for joking about raping someone, or even not raping them, as if being raped by ugly ukippers is something women should be grateful for.

User6949671 · 08/05/2019 17:19

Loads of people use dark humour, it doesn't mean they really want to die, kill someone, rape people.
People make there entire living off joking about it.
Him posting a tweet saying he wouldn't even rape someone is not the biggest ever political scandal that's all I'm saying. if that's the only thing they have, we have people already in power who have done so much worse. Where's the out cry and dogged determination to create more scandal to prove how evil they are?
I just feel he's a scape goat for how crappy politics in general is looking right now.
I notice everyone ignore the fact he's sharing the platform with a guy who taught his dog Nazi salutes to gas the Jews. Is he not news worthy any more?
It just seems a very convenient target to try and make one comment fit how totally corrup he is.

User6949671 · 08/05/2019 17:29

It's been twisted out of context by the papers not him.

Erythronium · 08/05/2019 17:34

They're all appalling, but this is an internet board where women discuss feminism so obviously the misogyny of a man with a public profile will rate highly. Jess Phillips said the number of rape threats she receives online has gone through the roof since he said this.

Disguising hatred in a joke is a way of normalising it and making the unacceptable acceptable, which is exactly what Carl Benjamin has done.

Whatabouteru is a pretty poor argument. I'm surprised you can treat a rape joke with such equanimity. You seem more upset with the fact it's being discussed than the fact he said it.

woman19 · 08/05/2019 17:41

And this. Envy not envy.
twitter.com/HannahAlOthman/status/1126020745044418560

TheCrowFromBelow · 08/05/2019 17:46

You and I obviously read quite different papers User

And no, I don’t think that people who are looking to be elected to run this country should be making “jokes” like that- it really isn’t humour to write something like that on a public platform.

CaptainBrickbeard · 08/05/2019 17:49

In what way is the comment ‘satirical’? It isn’t satire or even close to it.

Rape jokes should be seen as utterly unacceptable and they should destroy a person’s political career. It’s not funny. It’s not excusable.
