Josie Long refers to women as 'terfs'

...and defends the Mermaids jelly baby scale. I'm so pissed off at people like this who have apparently done zero research and yet are happy to put their woke two cents in whilst also casually using misogynistic slurs. How can they not see how utterly sexist it all is? How is calling other women by a derogatory slur at all productive? How is using gender stereotypes in any way helpful? How about if we used them for race? Where would you fit on the race scale? Do you like eating watermelon and ribs or do you have a good sense of rhythm? Then you're more at the black end of the scale. No no no no no. The stereotypes are the problem, we don't need to work with the stereotypes we've got and be told to pick a place on the scale, we need to escape them altogether. FFS.

Josie long clearly knows nothing about Mumsnet either. 'By parents, for parents' (not just mums) but in reality, open to all who can adhere to talk guidelines. This isn't a 'women's space', just an unusual example of a majority female space. Men such as glinner , who uphold women's rights, aren't 'infiltrators'.Hmm

WeRiseUp · 17/03/2019 23:13

Obviously a bit dim.

AssassinatedBeauty · 17/03/2019 23:16

She's clearly signed up to the woke brigade, happy to use words like "cis" and "terf" without any concern. She strikes me as young, idealistic and not super bright.

I understand she has just had a baby. I wonder if that will change her views on various aspects of femin

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 17/03/2019 23:16

I had to google. Comedian - has a daughter? Shame on you, lady.

AssassinatedBeauty · 17/03/2019 23:17

... *feminism.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 17/03/2019 23:17

And olde enough to know better.

I thought that too. Disappointed, all these left-wing people I used to quite like turning out to be so utterly vacant at best, and quite disgusting at worst. It's a good test of staying true to one's own integrity in the face of nonsense, I suppose.

Never heard of her.

Ftumch · 17/03/2019 23:32

Shes not that young - shes 36! I agree with idealistic and not super bright though. Handwringingly woke.
Couldn't even utter the word 'gypsy' when talking about gypsy tart on a food podcast.

OrchidInTheSun · 17/03/2019 23:32

She's a Radio 4 comedy circuit person. Outside of that, no one has ever heard of her.

When she's worried about her 6 year old changing next to a bloke with a massive schlong, she'll probably start to care

AssassinatedBeauty · 17/03/2019 23:34

36! I thought she was much younger than that, or that's how she comes across to me.

StephsCaddy · 17/03/2019 23:39

Ha. I thought this thread was about Josie Lawrence and was very surprised to hear she’d had a baby 😂

Sorry, but no idea who Josie Long is. But some people come out with such guff on social media.

OccasionalKite · 17/03/2019 23:43

Give her time.

I was quite like that when in early 20s.

Living on into 30s, 40s and 50s changed things very much.

abuseofpowercomesasnosurprise · 17/03/2019 23:46

What's interesting to me is that no comedian on either side of the debate (apart from the odd comment here and there from a few brave ones, and of course Glinner) are daring to touch this as subject material - why is that? It's not just fear, comedians touch upon taboo subjects all the time. It's because the ideology is completely and utterly fucked up. As soon as you pick it apart and makes jokes about it, it reveals how messed up it really is. I would love Josie to do some stand-up material about trans issues, but what's she got to work with if trying to maintain her position? Sexist, lesbophobic and ageist jokes about women trying to preserve women-only rape services etc? If they actually tried to pick apart what gender critical women (and men) are saying, it will only come across as incredibly illogical, sexist, homophobic, ageist and frankly rapey. Same reason there's no debate, no jokes, just misogynistic name-calling. Fucking shame on her and all the others going along with this.

Never heard of her lols

littlbrowndog · 17/03/2019 23:48

Heck she used the word cis men

Is her husband a cis man and her kid a cis kid

littlbrowndog · 17/03/2019 23:50

Och don’t even know why I give a few words to these vacant idiots
Really not worth it

Can’t deal with the stupid

WokerThanWoke · 17/03/2019 23:54

Marcus Brigstocke is another one. I agree with Rod Liddle more than I agree with a lot of comedians and public figures I used to respect these days. I mean wtf is going on.

abuseofpowercomesasnosurprise · 18/03/2019 00:06

WokerThanWoke I think the thing is that a lot of people here have relatives or have had friends or partners or are LGBTQI themselves etc and have seen beyond the brave and stunning surface, whereas most people don't know any trans people apart from being told what to think by TRAs on social media, and going along with it to appear woke. Ironically, we're the ones who are always accused of being ignorant when in fact we're just more experienced and know what we're talking about from first hand experience. (Not a slight against all trans people, just the TRA behaviour).

OP posts:
WokerThanWoke · 18/03/2019 00:22

Yes true OP. Just so enraging! Also it does show up who actually thinks about things and who just believes what they are told without question, if it’s told by the “right” person. There are whole swathes of people who I now just disregard what they say, because if they’re woke or lazy of thinking on this then they probably are on other topics too.

boatyardblues · 18/03/2019 00:28

Her wiki entry (I had to google her) says she studied at Oxford, so she really ought to be able to think critically.

abuseofpowercomesasnosurprise · 18/03/2019 00:33

A lot of people value their own self-image over being intellectually rigorous and honest, that's clear. This situation really is a crucible in more ways than one.

The satirist Titania McGrath has done a wonderful job of exposing the batshittery of virtue-signalling ignorance. Comedians are being shown up.

With a quarter of a million followers, a new book called "Woke: a guide to Social Justice", McGrath lampoons the likes of Owen Jones and hand maidens.

One of her latest tweets: "Our forebears fought the Nazis in WW2 to prevent the spread of Free Speech. We must honour their legacy by incarcerating those who claim there are only two genders."
(Three and half thousand likes, 600 retweets and 183 comments)

She mimics transactivists to a tee.

abuseofpowercomesasnosurprise · 18/03/2019 00:53

Pam - Good point! Titania McGrath is the only one who speaks the truth! :D

On the other hand, if you follow Marilyn on Twitter, he’s killing it. And he’s very funny.
