Seems to be some suggestion that it's as a result of the reaction to her blog post criticising Posie.

Oh fuck. I admire both women so much Sad

I stand with Posie, but Jean made a totally valid choice.

R0wantrees · 28/01/2019 11:17

Jean Hatchet has posted this information for herself this morning on a current thread. Jean has also said:

Jeanhatchet Mon 28-Jan-19 10:46:37
I may reactivate later and stick to just posting my rides for murdered women - because I cannot abandon them. I want to remember their names and their stories. It matters to me more than anything else

But please leave me out of any more on this front regarding Posie Parker. I'm tired.

I said my piece. I stand by it. But the relentless attacks are too much.

@FionneOrlander's account's gone too. So is @MrsMeadowsweet.

The discourse around this is becoming pretty toxic. It's such a shame, because I admire so many of the women that are now at one another's throats, including both Jean and Posie.

I'm close to deleting my account too.

Info re Jean's Rides for Murdered Women:

"I want to raise money to help victims of domestic violence. This money will go to Wearside Women In Need who face the closure of all 4 of their women's refuges because of a planned withdrawal of funding by Sunderland Council. Women will die as a result of that decision. We must save the women in Sunderland from men who will murder them.

At first my idea was really simple. I was riding along by the coast a couple of days ago and in my head thinking, as I often do, how many women are murdered as a result of domestic violence every year. How lucky I am to be riding my bike. Free. No one to tell me not to. Not any more.

This is not so for many women. Some women are with men who would smash their bike when they returned. Some women are with men who would call them too stupid, too fat, too selfish, too old, too useless to be doing something so simple and free as riding a bike. Some women can no longer ride a bike because they are dead. A man who they thought loved them, killed them.

So, for the rest of 2017, I will cycle for women who were murdered by men known to them in 2016. It is a big list. I will dedicate each ride to a woman. I cycled on Saturday for Katrina O'Hara. Stabbed to death by her partner Stuart Thomas.

The saddest thing is wondering if I have enough cycling days left in 2017 to honour the deaths of the women murdered in 2016. That was a very sobering thought. But I will do my best.

I promise that I will never ride less than 10 miles for any woman on the list... my usual ride is between 20 and 40 miles. I promise I will ride till my lungs scream. These women were worth it. Let us honour those women and celebrate their lives.

Wearside Women In Need have kindly agreed to accept the money. Claire Moore who runs the Dead Women Walking Murder March is providing me with the list of women.

As with the last fund I set up.... no money will touch my bank account at any point and Go Fund Me will direct funds straight to the charity once it is completed. They will add their bank account and provide verification.

Please help me to help women escape men who may kill them.

My heartfelt thanks for whatever you can spare.

Much love and gratitude,

Jean Hatchet x"

That's a shame, but I respect her choice.

NotANotMan · 28/01/2019 11:25

Fionne is on a twitter break

WunderBlah · 28/01/2019 11:25

There should be no attacking. Every one is entitled to their opinion. Every woman entitled to show courage in their chosen way.

United we stand.

I'm going to report my own post!

ToeToToe · 28/01/2019 11:31

Fionne too? Sad I like Fionne very much, and I'm a bit worried, because I think Fionne's a bit vulnerable, and gets a lot of crap from TRAs.

kaldefotter · 28/01/2019 11:34

I think Fionne is just taking a temporary break from Twitter. I hope she's back with rat posts soon.

BiologyMatters · 28/01/2019 11:36

Surely she's been around social media long enough to know what response her post was going to get? I'm not saying it's right that she's had sufficient responses to make her feel like she has to delete her account but she knows what Twitter is like.

FlawedAmazon · 28/01/2019 11:36

Hopefully Fionne's just taking a break and will be back.

So many amazing women that I've followed have gone now. They've either been banned for speaking the truth or have had so much abuse they've deleted their accounts.

PlectrumElectrum · 28/01/2019 11:40

I think a certain 'journalist' should just button it. You've made your point, several times over. Most people have a view, some are angry, some rightfully so, others are feeding off the drama. But the inability to stick to the issue & instead to keep digging into other areas to smear & discredit based on rumour or hearsay? Pathetic. Whatever anyone's view is of either posie or jean, the constantly picking at the scab helps no one & does fuck all for the overall cause. Instead of spending the w/e elevating the women & work being done, choosing to rant & smear & keep attacking through visible anger just makes that person look vindictive & more than a little unhinged themselves. Pot & kettle seems apt.

Oxytocindeficient · 28/01/2019 11:44

BiologyMatters I did think that too. Twitter is pretty toxic though so... I deleted my account ages ago and I’m better for it.

Iggypoppie · 28/01/2019 11:47

Whole thing has been strange. I don't think it was what Jean said as much as the medium and timing was not as great as it could have been. Also i felt she could maybe have given Posie the benefit of the doubt before posting as i thought they were friends. Nonetheless I hope everyone can in time put this behind us as we have more in common than divides us.

sueanddumplings · 28/01/2019 11:49

It's a pity. I've only just joined Twitter and Jean and Anne Ruzylo were two of the first people I decided to follow. This sort of thing makes you wary of getting involved in any debates on there though.

Which one is that? Most of them, apart from Owen Jones, seem to be fairly supportive. Maybe I'm reading the wrong papers.

Oxytocindeficient · 28/01/2019 11:53

Iggypoppie agreed. It wasn’t just, here are my boundaries, but a criticism of other people’s. I support both women setting their own and I would of hoped they could talk it out in person than through social media. Posie is getting it in the neck all over the place.

happydappy2 · 28/01/2019 11:55

Twitter is a toxic place for women......no doubt about it. Jean yr amazing.

R0wantrees · 28/01/2019 11:58

Nonetheless I hope everyone can in time put this behind us as we have more in common than divides us.

Its always worth being aware that there will (as always) be a range of people with different agendas who will seek to exploit situations as well as encouraging division.

Doobigetta · 28/01/2019 12:00

That’s a real shame. I want to keep hearing from all of these women. We’re 50% of the population of the world, of course we aren’t all going to think the same about everything. It’s healthy to speak up when you disagree and nobody should feel they can’t do that. That is one of the ways we’re different from the TRA lobby.

MenstruatorExtraordinaire · 28/01/2019 12:06

This is a damn shame and has sadly overshadowed what a huge amount of ordinary women are doing behind the scenes with the women stand up campaign.

Not on Twitter, just thought I’d emphasise this ^

Lots of warnings in FWR threads about how TRA's try to 'sow discord' but I don't think any of them could have done a better job than Jean Hatchet just did.

You talk to/stand with people you would disagree with on lots of other things, to support one common cause. You don't have to accept funding/hospitality from them. No need to write a lengthy blog post.
