Seems to be some suggestion that it's as a result of the reaction to her blog post criticising Posie.

Oh and ill agree with the last post of oxys as well

Oxytocindeficient · 28/01/2019 18:05

I imagine because the women who are most disturbed by public 'calling outs' don't want to play the same game. Two wrongs don't make a right and all that.

I’d also rather talk about all the events and important work going on. It’s time to move on to that.

terryleather · 28/01/2019 18:06

I can't help but feel that certain people would prefer us all to be arguing about jean than talking about this. Just a hunch.

Cheers Toe! Wine and I think your hunch may be correct...

Politelygiveszerofucks · 28/01/2019 18:09

Oxy - at risk of sounding like the emperor in Star Wars, be angry. Posie’s video should make you angry. I am fucking angry. I have sat and listened to parents like this in the U.K.

You can now see where I am coming from.

Oxytocindeficient · 28/01/2019 18:12

I always saw where you were coming from. I just did not see the point in calling out someone else... and we go round and round. Was I annoyed, yes. But I also weigh that against with all the positive. I’m a child of domestic violence. My stepMum is dead. I will always be grateful to women, and men, who do something about violence against women. I want to move on from calling out and give those girls and their mothers, and Posie, my time.

LangCleg · 28/01/2019 18:14

You can now see where I am coming from.

The implication being that we didn't before? After most of us having spent several days trying to tell people we weren't interested in adjudicating personalities and motives but wanted to talk about the issues at hand? This is extremely patronising.

Oxytocindeficient · 28/01/2019 18:17

Yeah. Again, I don’t think you can possibly have read the previous two, very long threads on this. Otherwise you’d know I saw your point already.

JackyHolyoake · 28/01/2019 18:22

And so ... if any of you have just watched that livestream from today's meeting in Washington DC ... I think it's fairly conclusive that the trio from Britain have no alliance whatsoever with the so-called "far right" here. Anyone who says they have any such allegiance should maybe issue very private apologies to each of those three individuals?

Gotcha.

If the sector can't resolve it's inner queries and just sweeps away as 'being women' nobody is going to get anywhere.

As you were.

Oxytocindeficient · 28/01/2019 18:30

This ^^

Vixxxy · 28/01/2019 19:02

Mobbing women on twitter because they wont accept men are women is abusive, mobbing someone on twitter because they wont stand with you because of a pre-existing political position is not ok and there is no unity that demands allegiance and refusing to learn from behaviour.

Quite. Twitter is toxic for women mind, but noone should have been attacking Jean for setting her own boundaries. Feminism is not a cult (unlike TWAW crowd Hmm ) and women fall out, it happens. I don't get why some are massively overreacting to the situation.

lisamuggeridge · 28/01/2019 19:07

By the time the terf stuff was in full view you could use it to get a picture of distortion in academia, politics, media, deep rooted, self id goes so far beyond left right parameters. I am really glad it is raising these questions but the idea of only morally pure left wing women being allowed to discuss inequality is abhorrent without self id. It was always abhorrent and it was always a way to sto women discussing inequality.

FlyingOink · 28/01/2019 19:50

the idea of only morally pure left wing women who then complain of a lack of support Hmm

FlyingOink · 28/01/2019 19:56

Ideological purity is a luxury. Some people think it's worth the cost. I don't. It's a choice. Idealists vs pragmatists.

Snoopylongstockings · 28/01/2019 21:09

I agree

Reported

Again!

lisamuggeridge · 28/01/2019 21:41

If your background is services for violence against women and social policy impacting women, the american christian right are a pragmatic threat. Jean had every right to draw the line where she did, that just doesnt mean that the line needs to be there for everyone or that its a universal line.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 28/01/2019 21:42
