I used the girls' room for the first time today

from reddit mtf:

all comments affirming. They are delighted to have actual women apologizing for being in the 'wrong' place in the women's room. Absolutely no understanding of the fear any woman or girl might feel encountering a male person in a vulnerable, isolated space. Also: "little girls' room" for a 19 y.o. person...

That reminds me of the awful link someone sent to that idiot in Canada where he talked about being in the ladies' toilets and advising pre-teen girls on sanitary wear. As in the case above, there is a definite sexual element to this.

FWRLurker · 10/01/2019 04:12

“I just want to pee like everyone else”

Is there something about IDing as trans that instantly makes it literally impossible to use a toilet labeled “men’s?”

I am capable of peeing in a men’s room in an emergency (and have done so). This person can as well.

Why did she apologise? Did she think she was in the men's?

Justagirlwholovesaboy · 10/01/2019 05:14

I really don’t care where anyone wee’s. As long as it’s not in my food! That would be wrong! And that’s how much most genuine people care about protecting people abusing you, I care x

Mummyoflittledragon · 10/01/2019 05:29

🤮 gross

Milestone ffs

Katvonbatshitmermaid · 10/01/2019 05:58

Also just no to “little girls’ room”.

Couldn’t hold it? Noticeable too that a girl felt the need to apologise for being in the way of a male. In the women’s toilets. Hmm

What‘s wrong with the men‘s toilets? The Pink Man uses them all the time, in all his flamboyant gender-nonconformity, and feels pretty safe there, from all I hear.
This ,oh I only want to pee, but the men’s toilets are the 6th Circle of Dantes Inferno, so I can’t relieve my willie there’ is just silly posturing.

Iverunoutofideas · 10/01/2019 06:58

Firstly, if all toilets were single cubicle non sexed there wouldn't be this fetishistic desire to use female toileting facilities. So it is a fetish in this person.

I can't help thinking if TW deliberately used male facilities it would prove its not a fetish.

I understand for many it's partly affirmative, partly safety etc but it's not up to women and girls to facilitate that.

So, single cubicle third space now. And quite frankly, I'm having to do that at the mo with a small baby as changing tables are always in the disabled toilets.

Iverunoutofideas · 10/01/2019 06:59

As always, where are the TM's accounts of using the men's?

Or do they use the men's as they're acutely aware of the effect a person who appears to be male bodied has on women and girls in their safe space?

ZuttZeVootEeeVro · 10/01/2019 07:10

I really don’t care where anyone wee’s

I care. The adult on Reddit obviously cares about being able to be in the 'little girls room'.

When adult males call the women's toilets the 'little girls room' it sends out a great big red flag. I don't understand why people are letting this behaviour go unchallenged.

ToastyFingers · 10/01/2019 07:19

Poor girl probably apologised because she felt uncomfortable and didn't know what else to do. 'lol' Angry

dogzdinner · 10/01/2019 07:21

I'm guessing they are American - they do use more twee names for the toilets.

BiologyMatters · 10/01/2019 07:22

I would have thought the young woman in question apologized to the person that she clocked as male in order to appease him and show that she wasn't a threat so that they wouldn't attack her. I'm not saying that they would have attacked her but if I was using a toilet and a male came in I would be super nice to him until I could get the hell out of there.

ZuttZeVootEeeVro · 10/01/2019 07:24

They generally say bathroom. I'm only going by a few visits to the US and TV, but adult males tend not to call them 'the little girls room'. That's a choice not something he's been brought up saying.

Bellatrix14 · 10/01/2019 07:26

I took it to mean the girl in the toilets apologised to the poster for being in the way of something (ie. the handryers) and they were pleased at this normal interaction? I can’t imagine that a transgender person would consider it “great” if someone assumed they were in the wrong toilet, so I think that’s the only thing it can mean?

Little girls’ room makes me wince, but I have heard plenty of women refer to it as that in the past, and it might be more common in America?

TimeLady · 10/01/2019 07:43

I'm happy to encourage them to post this stuff, if they're doing these things anyway.

Written evidence if needed, and raised awareness amongst everyone else. The tampon/ball-waxing fetishist has been called out for not keeping their disgusting thoughts to themselves.

NotBadConsidering · 10/01/2019 07:46

It reminds me of that scene in The Goonies:

[Mikey calls for a bathroom break]
Mikey: Okay, this is the little boys' room, and that cave over there is the little girls' room.
[Brandon heads to a different cave]
Mikey: Brand, where're you going?
Brandon Walsh: This is the men's room.

HomeStar · 10/01/2019 07:49

The apology seems like a passive-aggressive strategy for calling the man out. If you’re afraid you’ll get punched for saying “this is the ladies room” then “oh sorry am I in the men’s?” might work. Didn’t have any impact on this idiot though. They really are entirely oblivious to women’s feelings.

WaxMyrtle · 10/01/2019 07:55

I live in Texas. I have never ever heard a public loo called anything other than a “restroom”.

They don’t say “ladies” or “gents”.

Jaxtellerswife · 10/01/2019 07:57

She was probably being nice to show support. I imagine she was well aware this person is trans and was just being polite.

dogzdinner · 10/01/2019 07:57

Admittedly I've not lived there, but I know a lot of Americans and I've heard them say that. I'm sure I've even heard British people say it.

This person is only just out of childhood/school. I don't think the terminology is worrying.
