That’s (0.6/100) x (0.6/100) x 100 (to make it back into a percentage).

AspieAndProud · 18/11/2018 15:02

Or (0.6 x 0.6)/100.

hackmum · 18/11/2018 15:07

India doesn't understand how journalists work. The MoS journalist would have made sure the source checked out before running the story.

But it's also noteworthy that India doesn't believe the story. Hell, you'd think India would be pleased at all those transitioning adolescents.

hackmum · 18/11/2018 15:11

Coming back to the Sunday Times article that R0wantrees linked to earlier ('Thank God they didn’t make this tomboy trans'), it's noteworthy that it's tied in to a Channel 4 documentary going out on Wednesday. TV programmes tend to get a lot more traction than newspaper articles, and it makes me wonder if the tide is finally turning on this.

RedToothBrush · 18/11/2018 15:20

It amazing:

Women on MN don't know what safeguarding is. They are just stupid women.

So who do they think goes on safeguarding courses, creates safeguarding courses and enforces safeguarding in real life?

Then we have the 'but they are not a doctor' thing whilst elevating Susie Green to an expert in errr... Gosh what is she qualified to do.

Then there's the Daily Mail is a neoliberal evil entity. Unlike lobbying groups, big pharma and all gendered marketing.

Then there not understanding that the media reports and that yes whilst there is bias in there, it doesn't mean a media outlet is wrong. Nor do media outlets tend to go far from what they understand their readers will be interested in and care about.

Then there all the stuff about democracy and no debate and liberalism and progressiveness. Remembering that eugenics was previously one regarded as progressive.

I swear some days you are left wondering how this country functions at all. And then I remember it's currently not functioning, we are facing the entire collapse of the local government system, the collapse of the justice system, the prison system, the housing system, the health system, the social care system and God knows what else I can't remember off the top of my head and you go:

"ah, that explains it all".

Then despair.

From what women on here are posting there’s a significant number of people here involved in safeguarding on a daily basis. There’s a lot of practical knowledge as to what that entails. Daybin day out and regular training updates and that is why we are concerned.
Also if you work with lots of ASD kids and fill in lots of paperwork once they’re on the pathway you can see patterns and traits whilst not actually diagnosing.

AspieAndProud · 18/11/2018 15:26

For the record, what does ‘neoliberal’ mean anyway? Because it’s just being used on this thread for profit-lead, in which case classic liberalism would do.

And The Guardian is just as driven by the profit margin as anyone else. Except they aren’t very good it it. Being shit at marketing isn’t the same as being anti-market.

FlowersAndHerts · 18/11/2018 15:38

Looking at the article online, why has it been so far down the page all day, and why is there only one comment on it at the moment? (The comments have been moderated in advance, no doubt creating a logjam, which doesn't occur on those pesky Brexit stories.)

It makes me wonder whether the journalists responsible for the online version have given the story a low priority.

RedToothBrush · 18/11/2018 15:46

For the record, what does ‘neoliberal’ mean anyway? Because it’s just being used on this thread for profit-lead, in which case classic liberalism would do.

It means 'I'm virtue signaling as a socialist / communist whilst having nfi what I'm actually talking about. I just know that neo-liberals are bad people cos those norovirus lot said it was'.

Then despair.

I really, really feel your pain.

Fast forward ten years and I worry we won't have a single civic institution left standing.

RepealtheGRA · 18/11/2018 15:58

Sorry, did India just accuse the mail of being run by ‘rad fems’? Is there an ‘uncontrollably pissing myself’ emoji somewhere?

R0wantrees · 18/11/2018 16:09

I think India is saying that the story is fake, no facts in it, it orginates from a radfem on MN FWR and also that Stonewall have made this worse.

Is 'the story' IW is suggesting that Radfems from Mumsnet have duped the Mail on Sunday?

Just got back from the Asda run, and wanted to post this:

Couple by the newspaper stand. She's jabbing at the Mail on Sunday, reading the headline to him, and then said, 'Women have been saying this for two years and been called bigots. Now maybe the bloody male journalists at Mail on Sunday have said it, the government will listen'.

He was agreeing. Said it's horrible discrimination against children with autism, like their [insert child's name], and he wasn't happy if DC with ASD were being targeted by raving nutters ideologists.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 18/11/2018 16:14

Stonewall have made this worse.

Yes their no debate stance has totally backfired, as was obviously going to happen.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 18/11/2018 16:16

I'm actually please India's called out stonewall, good for her.

RepealtheGRA · 18/11/2018 16:18

OMG and now I’ve agreed with IW! She’s right about bloody Stonewall! World truly has gone effing mad Sad

RedToothBrush · 18/11/2018 16:20

Stonewall ARE the problem.

It starts with and ends with them.

All of this could have been handled sensitively IF Stonewall hadn't lost the plot and started allowing homophobic tossers to run them.

Safeguarding is about balancing interests and recognising vulnerability. If you don't recognise vulnerability you can't safeguard it.

OP posts:
AutumnCrow · 18/11/2018 16:22

Stonewall have become a homophobic shambles, agreed.

Sarahconnor1 · 18/11/2018 16:26

Stonewall have made this worse

Strange times when you agree with India and the mail on Sunday on one thread, albeit on different points.

India may self combust with the realisation that they share an opinion with many on MN.

Wonder if India has signed Jonny Best petition?

ErrolTheDragon · 18/11/2018 16:30

Is 'the story' IW is suggesting that Radfems from Mumsnet have duped the Mail on Sunday?

Confusedthat seems extraordinarily unlikely- hopefully the MoS can defend themselves against this outlandish claim. Meanwhile, the tweet may send more visitors here, who are very welcome to see what people here are actually saying.

hackmum · 18/11/2018 16:30

AutumnCrow - that has to have been a Mumsnetter!

As for IW thinking that there's some unholy alliance going on between us and the MoS, don't forget that we're simultaneously man-hating radical feminists and in receipt of money from far-right American Christian groups. Given that kind of elasticity, it's absolutely no surprise to find us in league with the neoliberal, anti-feminist Mail on Sunday.

Next week in TRA fantasy land, expect Mumsnetters to be accused of having a hand in the murder of Jamal Khashoggi by the Saudis.

AspieAndProud · 18/11/2018 16:36

I’m too busy assassinating people for Putin to have time to participate in any Christian fundie/rad fem/Daily Mail/neoliberal conspiracy.

VickyEadie · 18/11/2018 16:39

I’m too busy assassinating people for Putin to have time to participate in any Christian fundie/rad fem/Daily Mail/neoliberal conspiracy.

That's nothing - I'm completely occupied causing the underachievement of the nation's boys.

R0wantrees · 18/11/2018 16:41

I'm actually please India's called out stonewall, good for her.

India Willoughby has flip-flopped from being anti gender self-id to advocating it in the Pink News article linked previously,
(extract)
"I totally get why many women might have concerns about this, given there have been so many ridiculous over-the-top debates where the scenario of sex-offender in a dress is trotted out.

It just doesn’t bear up to scrutiny though. Honestly. Self-identification in no way incentivises someone to commit a sex offence. It doesn’t make it easier or more likely.

Waving a piece of paper or shouting “I’m a woman” is not going to buy any leniency from the police or courts.

I admit – I wasn’t convinced about self ID myself to begin with, but the evidence from around the world is irrefutable. I was categorically wrong, and fell for the hysteria.

Portugal, Ireland, Norway, Columbia, Malta, Belgium, Denmark and Argentina have or are adopting the same legislation – and there have been no spikes is assaults.

Women’s areas will not become dangerous places when the Gender Recognition Act is passed." (continues)

When IW went on This Morning with Posie Parker, she said something to the effect that this was all trans people.

Also (I'm pretty sure) at some point, like many other prominant trans rights spokespersons has said doesn't have a GRC.

This Morning with Posie Parker:

Celebrity Big Brother
IW "I am a real woman, I'm going to say it one more time so it penetrates" etc
