Graham Linehan Appreciation Thread

Just want to register my appreciation of his support of women.

He takes shit from TRAs day after day and his threads are brilliant. I know and he knows and acknowledges that women get far more abuse than he or any other man does for posting gender critical opinions and I thank him for acknowledging this fact too. A great man.

Thanks Graham. And Father Ted never stops being genius.

He's fantastic. But I wish I didn't feel so grateful when a man supports women. It just happens almost never.

VickyEadie · 26/08/2018 16:49

I noticed there was at least one TRA taking the view that the Greens were too slow on it and it was a "field day for TERFs".

Priorities showing themselves again, eh?

TerfsUp · 26/08/2018 16:50

I'm in! Graham, if you are reading this, you are a star.

gendercritter · 26/08/2018 16:50

He is an absolute legend

LadybirdsAreBirds · 26/08/2018 16:55

I'm not on Twitter, but Graham, if you are reading this, here's my response to your (possibly rhetorical) question:

I keep reading the words ‘gender based violence’ in this statement—referring to, in this case, the rape and torture of a ten year old girl by Green Party activist David Challenor—I just can’t figure out why it’s there. Can anyone help

Well Graham, I read this as the GP, even in the current circumstances, being unable to get their woke heads out of their arses. They seem to be putting the rape and torture of a little girl in the same universe as oft-mentioned, never-proven 'assaults' on transwomen (by feminists). Please note, TRAs think misgendering and generally not agreeing with the are 'an assault'

A disgraceful false equivalence, I think we can all agree

Thank you for your persistence in challenging the TRAs.

GenderApostate · 26/08/2018 16:58

I bet his wife and daughter are really proud of him, he’s fearless. I wonder if he has gained more followers than he’s lost?

He liked and retweeted me yesterday 😍
If only a high profile Woman (or six) had the guts to speak out, can you imagine if JK Rowling got behind us publicly, hell they already call her a terf. I feel quite betrayed by Women who have that kind of reach but don’t speak up.

Enjoli · 26/08/2018 17:09

Yes, thank you, Graham!

I can't like your tweets publicly - too risky. Know that you have thousands of invisible ones every tweet.

Gender

But I think you've hit the nail on the head. How many famous people really don't care what people think of them? Add in female socialisation, and aside from been-there done-it feminists, who's ready to stick their neck out?

lalalonglegs · 26/08/2018 17:13

God, as if writing Father Ted wasn't enough, now it turns out that he's a proper feminist too. I found him on Twitter a few days ago and just love him for this, yesterday: "I’m speaking on behalf of the women and lesbians who disagree with you [someone trying a bit of whataboutery on him]. When they disagree, they receive death and rape threats. When I do it, I get mournful messages about ‘disappointment’. Funny that, eh? I won’t shut up until they can speak."

He's also very good on Brexit and anti-vaxxers Smile.

heresyandwitchcraft · 26/08/2018 17:17

Thank you to Graham for sticking up for women, and amplifying the voices of some awesome feminists! Best wishes for his health. I was already an avid fan of his work, but his stance here is just Star. Gonna celebrate by re-watching my Black Books box set.

HavingALittleBabyToolshed · 26/08/2018 17:19

He is terrific. I have always had a lot of respect for his work but I admire him all the more now for his stance.

Also those Green Party pair set up terfblocker? Why am not surprised?

birdbandit · 26/08/2018 17:39

Thank you Graham, you are an inspiration, proving again and again that NAMALT.

PyeWackets · 26/08/2018 18:04

He has a lot to lose by his stance but still slogs it out on Twitter.

Also, 'cos he's a bloke people listen to him. We need more chaps to speak out, half the abuse and their voices carry more weight.

howonearthdidwegethere · 26/08/2018 18:04

Here, here! Graham is fab.

ForeverJung · 26/08/2018 18:09

Wow, that's amazing, Thank you to him.

TheCrowFromBelow · 26/08/2018 18:11

Thank you, Graham.

This whole situation is horrifying and depressing in equal measure.

ballsballsballs · 26/08/2018 18:34

Thanks Graham x

FloraFox · 26/08/2018 19:03

He blocked me years ago despite me never having interacted with him. Given I only really post GC stuff on twitter, I'm not sure if that means he's changed his mind at some point. Or maybe he was using the BlockBot or something like that.

WomblingWoman · 26/08/2018 19:06

Indeed Grin

hackmum · 26/08/2018 19:12

Thank you from me too. I hope he reads this. I just love him because there is no other man doing this as far as I can see, or no other high profile person of either sex. I do think it's a test of people's true character whether they will stand up for something that's right when the thing that's right is really unpopular and will get you loads of abuse.

And he has a way with words. Just love:

"50,000 women blocked by Terfblocker, a tool co-created by a paedophile rapist who was working to eliminate safeguarding in organisations like the Girl Guides."

And:

"You’re more shocked by me than the rape and torture of a little girl so fuck off out of my timeline."

(That second one to some particularly twattish woke individual getting all upset about the hurt feelings of TRAs.)

Macareaux · 26/08/2018 20:03

Adding my appreciation. But Graham, if you are reading this, there are a lot of GC feminists blocked by you, no doubt by a bot or something but wonder if you can unblock them. Have been some tweets about it this evening.

Twunk · 26/08/2018 20:22

I would also like to thank Linners - though I am very aware that women risk so much more (I had my name revealed on Twitter, thankfully it wasn’t a problem for me) and are more eloquent and knowledgable - as you say, he does acknowledge that and is not trying to “take over”.

Sadly we need men to do this, because honestly we are just not listened to in the same way. I even detect this bias in myself sometimes - unlearning internalised misogyny is hard...

placemats · 26/08/2018 20:56

I'm not on twitter but I read glinner every day, because I think he's great and I wanted to post and show my appreciation.

Creepycaterpillar · 26/08/2018 20:57

I have name changed....
Please send me names if you wish, via PM if you have been blocked by Graham on twitter and he will unblock you.
