Weight Watchers - new starter

Pipperleen · 14/10/2024 15:03

Started Weight Watchers from home 6 days ago after it was recommended to me by someone on here.

I am almost 7 months postpartum and my starting weight is 18st 5lbs - I continued to pile it on after giving birth, surviving on fat, sugar and caffeine to live…

Wondered if there were any other users of WW, or anyone giving it a go like me. Feel free to join or follow along.

I’ve enjoyed the week so far but know I have a long way to go and a lot to stick to to get somewhere even remotely healthy. Weigh in tomorrow night after the children are in bed!

Hiya, I think even as app only access you can join a kickstarter zoom which might help?
Basically you have daily points and then weekly ones you can use if you need too. Scan or enter everything you eat and it will be assigned a point value and knock off some points.

Could someone explain to me how they started at the beginning, challenges and pointers? I genuinely don't know where to begin. I joined and the app seemed very uninformative to me.

The best thing I found in the beginning was to go round with the scanner and scan what i had in the cupboards and fridge just to see what the points values were for things we had in - and then went from there planning meals -

Oh god no im only on week 4 ! My dailys is 45 though so maybe the weeklies is a percentage of that?

Would love to know how they calculate it as my daily is 36 but my weekly starts at 28!!

I did trial and error just inputting what I was eating and gradually over first 2 weeks have figured out some decent no/low point meals I like each day... will be trying some of the ww recipes from the app next week (coq au vin and Senegalese chicken ) so hoping for some good tasting ones!

Well I weighed this morning and my January weight loss is 17 Pound! I really am chuffed with that! Im surprised at how easy the plan has been to stick to which is obviously a huge bonus going forward -

Yogachick · 31/01/2025 16:32

Amazing @VanessaShanessaJenkins99 ! Well done!

Yes you do :) and if you dont use all of your daily points they get added onto the weeklies too.
Ive lost 2 stone now and i find the plan really easy to follow, i find that i am making better choices now without really thinking about it!

Why do I find WW so utterly confusing? I signed up and points are basically calories in another form. I still have no idea what the benefit of totalling points is opposed to calories. I seem to have a mental block about it.

Think of it has helping you make a better choice? Like a mars bar has say 12 points but you could have a jacket potato with beans and cheese for 10 - or egg on toast for 5 - its helping you think and choose things that are better for you. I mean dont get me wrong some times i could murder a mars bar but I settle for a curly wurly at 5 points lol

Obsessedwithsourdough · 25/03/2025 09:30

How is that better than calorie counting and why is a Mars bar or a curly wurly something you would eat if you’re trying to lose weight? I just don’t get it.

VanessaShanessaJenkins99 · 25/03/2025 12:55

Because thats life! Weight Watchers isnt meant to be a quick fix - its meant to help you think about food differently - make better choices, you can still have a mars bar, you still have a glass of wine, a takeaway, but then you make better choices for the rest of the day to compensate.

Morning everyone,
I have been reading your thread today and seeing how amazing you all are! There are so many apps out there to try and get this weight loss journey started that I am at a complete loss! Would you all recommend ww? I need something easy as a type 1 diabetic, full time teacher and mum as well 😳

VanessaShanessaJenkins99 · 08/04/2025 13:44

I have tried so many things over the years and i usually stumble after a few weeks but this time I am really enjoying it! I have done weight watchers a few times before but something this time has clicked, the free foods, etc. I have had a few days "off plan" but im back on it the next day. Ive lost 31 Pounds since i started in January, i too work full time and am a mum but its just so simple - ah the barcode scanner! Incredible
