Weight Watchers - new starter

Pipperleen · 14/10/2024 15:03

Started Weight Watchers from home 6 days ago after it was recommended to me by someone on here.

I am almost 7 months postpartum and my starting weight is 18st 5lbs - I continued to pile it on after giving birth, surviving on fat, sugar and caffeine to live…

Wondered if there were any other users of WW, or anyone giving it a go like me. Feel free to join or follow along.

I’ve enjoyed the week so far but know I have a long way to go and a lot to stick to to get somewhere even remotely healthy. Weigh in tomorrow night after the children are in bed!

Glad there are a few of us! Have signed up, just waiting to add my weight in the morning.

Ineedaholidayagain · 20/10/2024 18:24

I think even as core members you can go on the zoom calls for newbies to help understand the app and the programme, it's all good info

Ineedaholidayagain · 20/10/2024 18:26

Also if you are going out for a meal you can look at the menu and work out the points beforehand by tying in the chain and the meal, I've found it helpful to manage my daily points.

Obsessedwithsourdough · 20/10/2024 18:52

Im a bit worried that I will be tied in for ten months! If I don't like it I can't get a refund either.

I have signed up up for 8 months - I think. Hopefully weight will be gone in that time! Wish I could have had a week to try it first but too late now.

Welcome everyone!

Wishing everyone starting tomorrow luck. I’m so pleased I have given this a go and I am really liking the plan so far and feel like the points are very fair. I certainly don’t feel deprived but am feeling much less bloated and just better.

@50FootWave yes to hating the fake science - you have hit the nail on the head as to why I didn’t want to go back either.

Hello those starting today. I'm only a few days in and already feeling better.

I like that it's about incorporating 'normal food, no excluding carbs. Just point it. Much easier when cooking.

Key for me so far is planning. So lunch prepped for work, bowl of fruit on my desk, cuppasoups in my drawer if caught short, that sort of thing.

Hope everyone has a brilliant week; looking forward to hearing about your second weigh in, @Pipperleen .

FatfeetKate · 21/10/2024 07:14

Okay starting weigh in done.
Starting weight: 11.10.2
Goal: 10.5

Fingers crossed for day 1
Good luck everyone

Ineedaholidayagain · 21/10/2024 08:05

New starters, it might feel like a lot of effort weighing everything but it does help with portion control, too much of anything isn't great. After time you will know what a portion looks like and it becomes easier.

Twistandshouts · 21/10/2024 14:45

Hi
Can I join in too please?
Rejoined WW after 25 years! It's changed a bit. Have to do something as the weight has crept on after early menopause and it's now at 15 stone, so really hoping motivation from this group will help. Dh doesn't really agree and thinks its a waste of money!!

FatfeetKate · 21/10/2024 18:34

First day was okay. In my points but not really sure of how to join the groups. Wishing I had gone for the Core plan instead. Think it will take me a few days to get to grips with what I should be eating!

I hated joining!! Hate the fact I am spending money when I know what I should and shouldn’t be eating. I need the structure or I just lose all motivation. I keep telling myself if I am buying and eating less rubbish it justifies the cost.

If you go online on a laptop and join the groups that way (search for a meeting/ virtual metings) I find it easier then using my phone. Feel free to join lots to find a coach that works for you and join all the new member meetings.

Thank you - good idea about joining a few. I will have a look

50FootWave · 22/10/2024 06:26

I know what you mean, @FatfeetKate about cost and spending money. It's all just common sense, right, healthy eating, how hard can it be?!

I'm viewing the app as a gentle handhold and way to structure my day, just for a little while.

So far I'm on track, but there's a long road ahead.

Hope you're OK.

Ineedaholidayagain · 22/10/2024 06:50

Think of it as investment in future you. I pay for gym membership, yes I could run outside, or do something from YouTube but by paying you are more than likely to do it.
@Twistandshouts show your husband tye best version of you, I'm sure he spends money on himself and this is for you ylto male yourself feel better. I hope he's supportive in other ways.

Pipperleen · 22/10/2024 09:46

Weigh in after 2 weeks.
5lbs off this week so I am now a stone down. Chuffed!

Know it will slow down now so I will be pleased if I can lose another stone by the time I return to work after maternity leave mid-December. That’s the aim.

50FootWave · 22/10/2024 10:14

However, @Pipperleen - congratulations! Absolutely over the moon for you, thus is brilliant.

A stone already and firmly in the next bracket down. It definitely works, doesn't it, even it does mean weighing out your mashed potato! 😄

50FootWave · 22/10/2024 10:17

That 'however' should be 'wowee', BTW!

50FootWave · 22/10/2024 10:18

This not thus...gah, spelling clearly optional for me today!

FatfeetKate · 22/10/2024 19:31

What is everyone eating?
I had a chicken noodle stir fry tonight which felt quite point heavy at 12. Carbs seem to be quite a lot of points.
I am enjoying skinny crunch mint bars as a snack at 3 points.

50FootWave · 22/10/2024 20:39

@FatfeetKate my typical day is:

BF: fat free yogurt with banana and a tablespoon of pumpkin seeds (2p).

L: Tuna salad with a tin of chickpeas and one of those John West lunch on the go things (5p). Apple, grapes.

D: 4 x ryvita and babybell lights (about 10 points, I think). Cuppasoup if I fancy one (4 points). I still cook a ealthy meal for family, but I find it tricky to point it at the moment. This is easier.

I tend to avoid pasta etc - it's very point heavy as you say and you don't get much!

I feel full on this, so just plodding along for now during the week. I'll cook a bit more at the weekend.

Thank you - that is really helpful. I will have to pull myself out of the Slimming World mindset of old and think of meals with less pasta and rice! The John West things would be good for work lunches - have to get organised.

50FootWave · 23/10/2024 07:48

It's a bit of a pivot, isn't it @FatfeetKate ? I love carbs, but I have no off switch. Adding lots of protein (all 0 points) makes a big difference to filling me up for longer.

So eggs, tinned tuna and chicken. Someone I follow on the app uses a tin of soup as the base for stews, then packs it full of protein and veg. You'd have to check the points of the soup - but I thought this was genius!

FatfeetKate · 24/10/2024 13:23

Just found Aldi wholemeal baps at only 3 points. Not bad if you want a sandwich!
