Weight Watchers - new starter

Pipperleen · 14/10/2024 15:03

Started Weight Watchers from home 6 days ago after it was recommended to me by someone on here.

I am almost 7 months postpartum and my starting weight is 18st 5lbs - I continued to pile it on after giving birth, surviving on fat, sugar and caffeine to live…

Wondered if there were any other users of WW, or anyone giving it a go like me. Feel free to join or follow along.

I’ve enjoyed the week so far but know I have a long way to go and a lot to stick to to get somewhere even remotely healthy. Weigh in tomorrow night after the children are in bed!

I'll join you! I've signed up but not officially started, just been reading through the app to familiarise myself. I have four stone to lose.

How are you finding it? It looks very straightforward. How was your first weigh in?

I'm planning to start tomorrow, and will make Saturday morning my weigh day.

Pipperleen · 15/10/2024 20:48

I was just about to come and put my weigh in on here and thought I’d be just replying to myself but here you are!

I’ve found it really good actually. Straightforward but sensible - it’s controlled my portions which I’ve found helpful. There are enough zero point things to make some good meals but not enough that you can go mad, eg unlimited pasta like slimming world..

I lost 9 pounds this week! I am absolutely shocked. But really pleased and feeling good. I’ve made a couple of recipes from the app that have been good. Shopping list was massive but not overly expensive compared to normal surprisingly. Ready for another week!

Here I am - hello! So glad you came back with such an encouraging update. Thank you!

Wow, 9 pounds, that's incredible. I'm really pleased for you, and motivated to hear you've found it straightforward.

I will be starting tomorrow, it'd be lovely to check in now and again if you fancy it.

Good luck with week 2. 😀

Pipperleen · 15/10/2024 21:27

Thank you, what a lovely message. I look forward to hearing about your first week. I will be back for a check in too!
Good luck, hope it all goes well!!

It's really reassuring to have someone else on the journey, so I'll check in again on Saturday with my weight.

I'm a bit scared of weighing myself, tbh. I know it's just a number, but it's really daunting.

Anyway, food all prepped for the three days, and I'll try to squeeze some exercise in later on.

More soon, have a good day 😊

50FootWave · 16/10/2024 21:23

Just a quick post at the end of a successful day one. Phew! Not had a chance to exercise, but I'll make that a priority at the weekend.

Feeling hopeful for the first week. Hope your day has been OK!

Obsessedwithsourdough · 16/10/2024 21:25

I have been thinking of joining up so this has encouraged me. Well done on your weight loss!

Pipperleen · 17/10/2024 07:18

Well done on day 1! OK day for me too, my husband dutifully weighed out exactly 200g of mashed potato for me at dinner time whilst I was punching everything in to the app 😂

I used up every point today which is unusual for me - I think I will struggle to use up the weekly ones unless I actively have a ‘treat’ or go out or something, which I rarely do at the moment. I’m not sure whether I should be trying to use them or not really.

@Obsessedwithsourdough Welcome! Good luck if you decide to give it a go.

OP posts:
Pipperleen · 17/10/2024 07:18

I guess that should say yesterday really…

OP posts:
50FootWave · 17/10/2024 07:57

Yes, welcome @Obsessedwithsourdough and good luck if you decide to start.

That made me laugh, @Pipperleen, but it has to done. Great focus! My portion sizes are epic, so a reset is needed. As you say, you can't binge on pasta on this, so weighing stuff is a good habit to form.

I'm guessing the points are there if we need them, and some days we'll need them all!

Does the weekly rollover vanish each week? I think you're right, they are there as a safety net for special occasions/emergencies.

We've just booked a family city break for next April. It'd be nice to be lighter by then!

50FootWave · 19/10/2024 07:38

Weighing in at 15.8 for my starting weight. So in reality looking at 5 stone to lose.

Glad I had a few days to settle in, and am feeling positive about the first proper week. Going to do some exercise at home today, too.

How are you @Pipperleen ?

Pipperleen · 19/10/2024 08:32

Hello! Glad you’re feeling raring to go.

I am sat here doing a shopping list as we speak. I think I’ve lost some again this week - trying not to peep at the scale too much. Hoping to make it into the 16s in the next month or so, we’ll see.

Did a few recipes again this week. The cod with pesto veg was great and dead easy.

OP posts:
50FootWave · 19/10/2024 09:05

Hello!

Fingers crossed for you - going down a stone bracket is such a great feeling. I'd love to ve in the 14s by Christmas, but that's a bit ambitious!

I'm also meal planning. Thank you for the recipe idea. Did you use low fat pesto?

I'm currently making curried marrow soup as had some gifted by my gardening neighbour. Will beef up with pulses and have ryvita on the side (best avoid bread, I can't control myself). Plus some chicken sausages for the protein.

Looking forward to hearing about your next weigh in!

Pipperleen · 19/10/2024 12:58

That’s lovely! I wish I was a soup person but I think at the moment I need it with a doorstop of bread and an inch of butter to feel finished 🤦‍♀️ maybe one day! I’ve got some lentils in this week for beefing up purposes too.

I didn’t use low fat pesto this time, only because I had a jar of regular and no one else likes it in this house, but I did point it and use a bit less.

I have been hammering the wholemeal wraps this week - made some fake pizzas with them which was quite good, it made me wait a bit longer for lunch as well which is not a bad thing. I’ve just had a wrap with cottage cheese and salad inside for lunch…I mean, who is she?? Might as well make me the WW poster girl already.

Hello, I am seriously considering joining WW (again) I have been member of WW and sW over the years and always preferred WW but used to go to a class and online only put me off - how is support online - do you do virtual classes ? Which membership do you do ?

Pipperleen · 19/10/2024 16:36

@Inanun2 hello! I have also done SW many moons ago and have only gone to a group.
This is my first time doing anything online only (core membership). The WW app is good I think and it’s really easy to see everything in one place - although you will already know that.

What is helping me so far I think is telling someone my numbers - I have told my husband what I’m doing and will continue to update him (whether he likes it or not..). I’ve also joined a couple of Facebook groups. The support is obviously going to be very different to going to a group but my experience has been positive so far.

OP posts:
Pipperleen · 19/10/2024 16:37

@Inanun2 also I believe there are Zoom things you can join but I get the impression they are more for information rather than a meeting. Not 100% sure though.

OP posts:
50FootWave · 20/10/2024 07:26

Bread (and butter) is my absolute weakness, so soup is risky, it's true. I find if I pack it full of things like chickpeas and chicken so it's more of a stew, that's acceptable. Ryvita on the side of course.

I salute your wraps and salad (and patience!). Weirdly, I really like cottage cheese with a dollop of marmite. Instant snack. I'm going to try your pesto idea next week.

@Inanun2 I'm pretty much the same as @Pipperleen with my membership, and I follow a few members on the app who seem to have an honest approach to the plan (and have lost weight/been members for a while). I've not done (and don't want) any zoom meetings, but I don't think my membership covers it anyway. I really like the app, too.

SW I did few years ago when my DS was little, but I hated the fake science. And the groups! But it seems to work for others!

Obsessedwithsourdough · 20/10/2024 09:16

I’m going to join on Monday. I’ve never lost weight with a slimming club before so am full of trepidation, but I desperately need to do something and am failing to stick at it on my own. I know what I need to do, I just keep falling off the wagon!

Ineedaholidayagain · 20/10/2024 09:20

Hi all
With WW if you pay for premium you can go to in person and virtual meetings, check the website to see if there is a meeting near you. I love my virtual meeting, I go same time same coach each week so she knows me and it's a good chat in a group about what went well and what didn't, no judgement but lots of good advice. You can participate as much as you want. My BMI is now normal for the first time in 4 years and I'm near my personal target weight. It's a lifetime journey, not a quick fix but has changed my mind on lots of things eating wise.

50FootWave · 20/10/2024 09:44

Good luck,@Obsessedwithsourdough.

I've tried all sorts of diets, with varying success. My motivation with this is that I'm trying to moderate all of my eating, where no food is banned. Portion size for me is a lifelong battle! I don't think I'll ever completely win, but I'd like to feel a bit more in control.

It'll take time, though.

50FootWave · 20/10/2024 09:45

So what you have said,@Ineedaholidayagain really resonates!

FatfeetKate · 20/10/2024 16:14

I am looking at joining WW tomorrow. Sick of keep joining Slimming World and need a change. There are no in person workshops near me so I am unsure if to go virtual or on my own. I am rubbish with sticking to things so I am thinking at least the virtual will give a bit of accountability?? The battery has gone in my scales so will try and get one for the morning. Hopefully I can join in the chat here and we can inspire and commiserate as we go. Was really pleased to find this thread!

ThereIsAlwaysWine · 20/10/2024 17:02

@FatfeetKate I'm starting tomorrow too, signed up for Core membership. Hoping I can do it this time!

Obsessedwithsourdough · 20/10/2024 17:57

I'm starting tomorrow as well.
