Weight Watchers - new starter

Pipperleen · 14/10/2024 15:03

Started Weight Watchers from home 6 days ago after it was recommended to me by someone on here.

I am almost 7 months postpartum and my starting weight is 18st 5lbs - I continued to pile it on after giving birth, surviving on fat, sugar and caffeine to live…

Wondered if there were any other users of WW, or anyone giving it a go like me. Feel free to join or follow along.

I’ve enjoyed the week so far but know I have a long way to go and a lot to stick to to get somewhere even remotely healthy. Weigh in tomorrow night after the children are in bed!

5lbs down this week.
1st 9lbs so far.

Hope anyone else still out there is doing well 💙

Well done! that is amazing.
I am still here, still plodding along.
I am eating so much healthier than I was on SW which did nothing for my carb obsession.
Weekends are difficult though, there always seems to be something on but I see this as long term so would rather enjoy a night out - life is too short not to!
Still loving M&S salted popcorn at 2 points a bag. Gutted to have bought the wrong hot chocolate at 5 points a sachet - not touching those!
Hope everyone is doing okay.

Well I've just joined for 1 month as I want to see how it goes. Just need to read up on things, any tips welcome 🤗

Ineedaholidayagain · 17/11/2024 21:35

It's slow and consistent. If you over point one day keep going but point everything. Weigh everything to start with, you are investing in the you of the future.
Today I'm planning a work trip later this week so I needed smart trousers. I fit into my thin trousers I bought 8 years ago. At Christmas I didn't fit my fat jeans. It's doable but it's not easy.
Edited for spelling errors

I am swithering again. What is the advantage of doing WW over calorie counting for those who are experienced with both?

Pipperleen · 18/11/2024 12:49

@Obsessedwithsourdough
why don’t you start calorie counting and see how you get on? And if it’s not for you then you know you’ve got this option up your sleeve.

Yes I think I will do that.

For me the advantage is that I eat healthier. Veg and fruit is zero points but have calories. A banana has the same calories as a skinny whip bar and I would always choose the skinny whip!
If you run out of points you can put something together at zero points but if you run out of calories you can’t eat or you cheat.

2lbs down this week, 1st 11lbs off.

I have sold a bunch of clothes on Vinted to celebrate and have treated myself to some new jeans 👖

4lbs off, 2 stone 1lb in 7 weeks so far.
I’m absolutely bloody chuffed 🎉

ricketybeauty · 26/11/2024 19:25

Congrats @Pipperleen

How much do you have to go?

Pipperleen · 26/11/2024 21:51

@ricketybeauty a decent chunk yet to go. 3 stone more would be good and I’d be happy with that, but 4 would be brilliant.
No time frame apart from wanting to feel confident and happy for my birthday in the summer along the way, two things that I definitely was not this year.

Hi @Pipperleen glad to see you're still going strong! I've just joined ww - now that you've been doing it for a month, do you have any tips to share? I've got about 2.5 stone to lose but have been in a massive spiral of eating rubbish compulsively for the last month so desperate to break the cycle! Hoping that trying something new like ww will help! X

Ineedaholidayagain · 03/12/2024 06:48

Start by weighing everything, portion sizes was my biggest issue. Are you a premium member? If so use the meetings and virtual. The app had lots of recipes with the points

Pipperleen · 03/12/2024 06:51

Hi @jj1980

As with anything, I would say planning is key. I like to plan dinners at the weekend before a big shop. They tend to be the highest point thing of the day so I can the just see what I fancy for breakfast and lunch on the day. Having plenty of resources in to vary breakfast and lunch and knowing what works for me - eg only salad for lunch is never going to be for me, I get too hungry and grumpy later on, so always have enough points for a wrap.
To be honest, thinking of weeklies as there if I’m desperate has been the way to lose for me. I haven’t been using them regularly but used them all this week for a roast (a mindful one but there was oil involved!) and a breakfast out and I have stayed the same - just weighed!
I've done a recipe or two a week from the app - they have been lower point meals than ones I have thought of myself really. And thinking of alternatives to mince - we used to eat quite a lot but it feels like a bit of a waste of points to have regularly.

OP posts:
Ineedaholidayagain · 03/12/2024 07:31

Quorn type mince is lower points then the meat version

ricketybeauty · 03/12/2024 07:39

Also 5% pork mince is a good swap for a couple of points as well - I very rarely use beef now. It’s cheaper as well

jj1980 · 03/12/2024 07:43

Thanks all. I'm not a premium member but tracking and weighing food etc is something that I do all the time anyway (when I'm not in binge mode 😭) so I'm not worried about that aspect. I think mainly worried about fitting what I want to have within points. I've seen others on here say it's a lot of points but I've just pointed what I would normally have (and which is not a lot in terms of calories say 300-400 for breakfast)
and I've already used a lot points. So I think tips on lower point alternatives will be helpful. I need to study the app. For example I have bagels and need to get bagel thins. The quorn mince instead of normal mince is a good idea. Having done SW in the past, I'm used to all lean meats like a fillet steak or 5% mince being 'free' so I need to rethink what I would usually eat or I guess pair with no point sides!

Obsessedwithsourdough · 04/12/2024 09:11

For those who have never done WW before, did you find it hard to get to grips with? I nearly signed up yesterday but I’m just not sure I would understand the whole points system.

ricketybeauty · 04/12/2024 13:01

@Obsessedwithsourdough no, it’s so easy, it’s as simple as calorie counting to be honest.

I think the reason it works though is that it’s difficult to fall off the wagon and cheat, so you stick with it. I would absolutely recommend.

ricketybeauty · 06/12/2024 08:44

So I’ve reached my goal weight - bobbing up and down a bit depending on what I’ve eaten for the past week but sticking where I wanted to be.

Not quite sure how to go about maintaining especially as we are now in festive period! Thinking to just stick to the losing points allowance days I don’t have anything on and just not worry about going out for dinners/ drinks etc??

The maintenance points on the app seem a real jump up!

Pipperleen · 06/12/2024 14:26

I think what you have suggested is what I’m going to do - track any normal days and meals and not worry about Xmas dinner or any other events. Not got loads going on anyway tbh.

OP posts:
Ineedaholidayagain · 14/12/2024 07:25

Anyone tried the photo bit on the updated app? I took a picture of a plate of buffet food and it was about 90% accurate. That's a major win.

jj1980 · 14/12/2024 07:27

Oooh I haven't tried that yet! Will it give it go today!

Pipperleen · 14/12/2024 10:30

Me neither but have been admiring it from afar 😂 good time to release it before Xmas, I’m going to try it too.
