Weight Watchers - new starter

Pipperleen · 14/10/2024 15:03

Started Weight Watchers from home 6 days ago after it was recommended to me by someone on here.

I am almost 7 months postpartum and my starting weight is 18st 5lbs - I continued to pile it on after giving birth, surviving on fat, sugar and caffeine to live…

Wondered if there were any other users of WW, or anyone giving it a go like me. Feel free to join or follow along.

I’ve enjoyed the week so far but know I have a long way to go and a lot to stick to to get somewhere even remotely healthy. Weigh in tomorrow night after the children are in bed!

Does everyone weigh first thing?

Always! wouldn’t think it matters though as long as you always weigh at the same time. I always weigh in the morning, no clothes before coffee 😂

50FootWave · 28/10/2024 19:35

Nice one, @FatfeetKate!

Yep, first thing and nakey noos!

Pipperleen · 29/10/2024 09:04

Weigh-in week 3: 2.5lbs down.
Aim for the week, drink more fluids! I’m like a chunky prune.

I’m booking a 1lb loss - my scales are reading as 2lb but I’m just in the next stone down bracket and I don’t get decimals on pounds when it’s double figures.

I suspect I’m going to start slowing to a 1lb loss maximum from here 🤷‍♀️

Pipperleen · 29/10/2024 09:25

@ricketybeauty I think it’s something like a deficit of 3500 calories a week to lose a pound - to sustain that is still a huge achievement 👏

Well done @Pipperleen!

@ricketybeauty I'm a slow loser, too, but it's all going in the right direction!

ricketybeauty · 31/10/2024 07:02

@50FootWave how have you been getting on with sneaking a bit of exercise in?

Twistandshouts · 01/11/2024 12:17

Week 1 weigh in and I've lost 4lbs!!
Never thought it would be possible. It's hard trying.to diet with no support and being Gluten free, but I've.managed it!
Here's to another good week for all.

Well done! That’s great. How have you found it? I still haven’t signed up. I’m worried I just won’t get on with it .

It's fairly easy when you've got your head round it!
I do a lot of cooking from scratch, and use Pinch of Nom, so it's easier to track that way.

It's the portion sizes that take a bit of getting used to, but eventually they become second nature (I did WW 20 odd years ago and it was very different then, this is easier)

Drink loads of water, I tend to drink low cal tonic water as well as sparkling, fill up up veg, salad etc and exercise. After the first week you tend to start thinking differently.

Wine etc have high points, so I tend to save those for the weekend. To be honest doing that means I've slept so much better, although walking the dogs further is helping to.

Definitely give it a go, if you have meetings near you, I'd definitely go and see what it's all about, and have a chat about it with the leader. I do it online as we have no meetings near us and I do miss the support you get from the meetings .

Obsessedwithsourdough · 01/11/2024 17:04

How is everyone else getting on? I'm swithering!

Pipperleen · 02/11/2024 13:04

@Obsessedwithsourdough are there any deals on at the moment? That might help you make up your mind.

I love it so far, but I am coming from a place of very disordered eating - far too big portions, loads of sweet stuff in the evenings, feeling absolutely stuffed daily. I needed something straightforward, flexible in terms of everything on there but with clear ‘rules’ and boundaries. I’m not snacking at all which is good for me - I was clearly eating out of boredom a lot of the time.

Well done everyone on sticking with things and your losses!

I've had an awful week and everything has fallen apart on the eating front. I didn't dare weighing yesterday.

I'm going to try and claw my way back today and at the very least head out for a good long walk to clear my thoughts.

Ineedaholidayagain · 03/11/2024 08:41

My advice for a 'bad' week. Think why did it happen (I've put on a couple of pounds but I've been at home and eaten bread and baclava so I'm owning it and I know what to change).

Then move on with what you have learned, you can't change the past but you can make different choices.

It’s forcing me to sign up for a year now which seems a bit commitment when I’ve never tried it before . I keep telling myself I can do it myself using calorie counting, I’ve done it before many times, but this time I just have so much weight to lose it’s daunting.

Pipperleen · 03/11/2024 10:02

@Obsessedwithsourdough
I know exactly where you’re coming from. I had tried calorie counting too but I did find it a faff for some reason, despite the fact that it’s tracking like this is. This just seems much easier for some reason.

I had to sign up for a year too…but it turned out to be about £5/6 a month - I figure I was spending much more than that on rubbish.

I have a lot to lose as well - 6 or 7 stone really - I am trying to remember how frumpy and uncomfortable I felt on my birthday in the summer and I have vowed to feel much more fabulous next year. Also trying to think of my young children - I know it’s perhaps morbid, but I am giving myself much more of a chance to live a long and happy life with them by doing this. There’s no way I can avoid health problems forever if I stay the way I am.

Hope you’re ok @50FootWave, know that feeling well.

Thanks everyone. I've had a good walk and tried to think through some ways to address my tendancy to self-sabotage.

Inspired by others I've dug out my running gear and am going to reconnect with that next week. No unrealistic targets, just trying to build in some me-time.

I've also prepped my food for the week. I didn't do that for a couple of days this week as was very busy - I sometime think I do it deliberately to justify falling off the wagon.

Anyway, enough of my self-pity! Tomorrow is a new day.

50FootWave · 04/11/2024 07:49

Thanks @Pipperleen and @Ineedaholidayagain - it's a lifetime of emotional eating to untangle! I appreciate your good wishes.

@Obsessedwithsourdough I'm in for a year - so that makes at least 3 of us hete for the duration!

@ricketybeauty no, not as much as I should on the exercise front! Will be trying harder this week.

Pipperleen · 05/11/2024 07:46

Week 4: -1.5lbs
Total: -1st 4lbs

I have been very hungry this last few days, not that I’ve really done anything extra about it, but it’s made me grumpy. That’s all I have to report, the grump is still present 😂

ricketybeauty · 05/11/2024 09:17

I’m down three lb today inspite of a stressful day after a car accident when I ate a fudge bar for the shock and some cold chippy chips once I’d made it home after getting the car recovered!

Pipperleen · 12/11/2024 21:40

5lbs down this week.
1st 9lbs so far.

Hope anyone else still out there is doing well 💙

I really have to join now.

Obsessedwithsourdough · 15/11/2024 16:37

The price has gone up to £10 a month for ten months. Is there any way to get a discount off that?
