BigMoFos: get your substantial arses over here for a regroup

WigWamBam · 29/08/2008 20:32

Those of you who were only with us in spirit for our meet-up today won't know this, but we have decided to regroup with renewed vigour, mount a new offensive, and also have a rethink about what we want from the MoFos threads and how we want them to work.

We are all decided that we need the threads to continue in one form or another but we are not sure that the weekly weigh-in/new thread is the way forward. It has been suggested that we have either a monthly thread, or that we go for one of the "chat"-type threads, which we plough on with until it's full.

With regard to a weigh-in, there was some thought that we could either simply post our weights or our losses (whichever we each prefer) every week on the ongoing thread. There is a chance that the weights could get lost among the chat, though, so if we prefer we could have a separate thread where we posts weights or losses on a weekly basis so that we can keep track of our own losses (or gains). Alternatively I am happy to collect and record weights/losses/gains as before, and post them as a single post - either on the chat thread or as part of a dedicated progress thread.

This is your group, and I would like to hear how you would like it to continue so that we can go back to offering the kind of support we are all capable of offering, and which we all so badly need. Please come and tell us what you need from the threads and how you would like them to work from now on.

One thing is for sure; kicks up the arse are compulsory and will be freely given (as soon as I finish off the Mississippi Mud Pie I bought home from the meet-up today )

evening all

just clocking in... i have had a really great day.. hope you all have to

whoopps-- i sparked a bit of a discussion about quorn... wouldnt be so bad but they werent quorn they were linda mccartney sausages but i couldnt be bothered to write that!!!! probably the same stuff but they taste loads better than quorn ones.. and they keep me on the straight and narrow

whats everyone else eating?

i cant believe i hahve crossants in the house and i havent had any... i could easily eat 3 though

WigWamBam · 10/09/2008 22:12

Don't go telling dh that Quorn and Linda McCartney are the same thing ... the two companies are deadly rivals!

LMcC foods are soya-based, Quorn is crap micoprotein based.

Neither are exactly the tastiest foods ... they give us veggies a bad name.

You'll find we don't tend to focus too much on what we eat on a day-to-day basis on this thread, cheeky. Probably just as well really because it's often not pretty reading! We seem to have evolved into a group which talks much more about feelings and attitudes to food than we do about food itself (unless it's doughnuts ).

I am so sad, I went to see Mama Mia for the fourth tuime last night, managed to get DH to come along and he really enjoyed it. I love going to our local cinema as you can buy wine and take it upstairs with you to sup on during the film.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 11/09/2008 07:48

Just read the thread Hockey I amd shocked, I had DD by section at 18 stone and just had DS at 19 stone with no problems at all, everyone was really good.

hockeypuck · 11/09/2008 08:16

fivegomadindorset I'm glad your experience was better than mine! By the time I had DS almost 4 years later I was a nervous wreck. A nice midwife had written all over my notes "Do not place under the care of Consultant X" in big letters (apparently a lot of people complain about him) and gave me a really nice consultant. I anticipated a really big battle to get the elective section I wanted, but the first time I saw my consultant at 12 weeks, she listened to my experiences, actually had a tear in her own eye about them, and said "I'm very happy to give you an elective section, they are very safe, and if you want me to I will perform it myself instead of my SHO doing it". She was lovely. I had a wonderful elective section with DS and the experience was entirely different.

(Although I am still tempted to go and find this Consultant X's car and give it a good keying!!!)

Aaahh alls well that ends well and I have two wonderful DCs out of it.

I'm now on Day 4 of Reductil and it is going quite well. It's not filling me up quite as much as I would expect so I'm having to be very disciplined, but I am being very good. I find I feel more full if I eat say 5 little healthy meals than try to go for 3 with no snacks. So I have been having a banana with a glass of water at 8am, toast at 10.30, a cracker with soft cheese and ham at 1.30 and then a meal in the evening, with maybe another snack of apple or grapes. Reading the info that came with the meds it said it won't stop you feeling hungry but will make you feel fuller quicker. So I figured several healthy snacks a day will fool it to think I'm having big meal - we will see! I did a big shop yesterday and stocked up on tons of fruit, veg, nuts and seeds and things for when the nibble-attacks arrive! I figure even if I don't lose weight then I'll be full of vitamins and essential nutrients anyway!

One of my main problems is how many calories I consume through drinking. I have had a bad Coca Cola habit, drinking over a litre a day and have also got in the habit of having a pint of milk with chocolate nesquik mixed in. I don't drink tea or coffee. So, since Monday I have been cold turkey on the drunk calories and have been drinking only water - so I should have nice skin too!

Kewcumber · 11/09/2008 09:26

snacking sounds like a good idea Hockey - I might try that for the same reasons, ironaically I'm not much of a big snacker. I have been a diet coke addict in my time but really ration it quite carefully max one can a day. I have cut right down to 2 or 3 a week now and have switched to weak squash and water and seem to be getting on fine with that, when I cut right back to a few cans a week I lost the craving almost entirely - having one a day I found made me want more.

TigerFeet · 11/09/2008 10:44

Oh god DIet Coke - I am a complete addict - I can drink well over a litre a day if unchecked. DH is just as bad. There is none in the house atm and I am feeling twitchy I'm not sure a cup of coffee will cut it tbh but will give it a go.

We are cutting back on the shopping bill and I realised that we can spend upwards of £20 A WEEK on DIET COKE!!! That's on 2l bottles for the fridge and the odd can each when we're out and about.

Apols for language but fucking hell what a waste of money!

hockeypuck · 11/09/2008 10:54

Total waste of money true!. £20 a week is £1,040 per year!!!! phenomenal! I'm a total convert to the water after 3 days on it. I should put my Coke money in a terramundi pot or something and have a nice holiday when I'm thinner!

Kewcumber · 11/09/2008 11:00

Tiger - you'd probably do better with a strong tea as thats the flavouring/caffeine in coke (isn't it?)

PinkChick · 11/09/2008 11:17

Hi All, dont know if i have put on here as yet?..its the old age getting to me?, but i lost 3lb this week, gtting down to 14st 5lbs, my lowest in almost 10 years!

Also went to aqua fat last night and it was VERY hard!, she'd stepped it up as we were all the same group so we were getting used to it..can really feel it this morning!

had some weetabix for brekky and just had bowl of porridge for early lunch, wont be having dinner till late as going shopping (food) tonight, so will be eating about 9pm..prob steak, mushrooms, onions and some SW chips?

am determined to get under 14st before we go away in 17 days!, so if i can lose another 3lb each week till then ill be happy

dp also got down to 14st exactly this morning, so was veryy happy for him

have a nice day eevryone!.x

JackieNo · 11/09/2008 12:26

Well done PinkChick - sounds as if you're well on track.

Another Diet Coke addict here - well, more struggling not to be an addict. It's one of those things that I used to drink loads of, but the whole thing about it leaching the minerals out of your bones (or whatever - am science numpty) that worries me. So I try for 3 or 4 a week. Because I rarely drink alcohol these days (just don't get round to it), I seem to have got to the stage where I look forward to my Diet Coke in the same way as I used to look forward to a glass of wine in the evenings. Not sure if that's good, or just weird.

PinkChick · 11/09/2008 16:23

thanks jackieNo ..im the same but with pepsi max, howveer all this in news about sugar fre substitutes and chemicals worries me..but pepsi max IS my alcahol as i dont drink either!?

TigerFeet · 11/09/2008 19:42

Oh dear are you all pretty much teetotal?

I have been known to put a smidge of vodka in my dc from time to time. I've cut right back though, now that I am Making An Effort. Not that I drank a lot, a bottle of wine over two or three evenings at the weekend and the odd v&c inbetween.

I am weighing tomorrow - this will be my starting point as I'm not convinced of the validity of the weights I was getting last weekend. Alledgedly I have lost around 8lbs this week but I find that highly unlikely.

I am a lot more active atm - school run and time to myself to go for a flail swim.

Congrats PinkChick that's excellent progress

WigWamBam · 11/09/2008 19:44

I'm tee-total too. I have a rather unhealthy obsession with Red Bull at the moment though ...

FiveGoMadInDorset · 11/09/2008 19:47

Don't worry TigerFeet had to open a bottle of wine to add some to supper sow e will be finsihing the rest

TigerFeet · 11/09/2008 19:59

VOdka and red bull [sigh] fuelled many a night out in my younger days In those days I did lots of my own peculiar brand of jump-up-and-down dancing and burned off the cals - I never got above about 12.5 stone then.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 11/09/2008 20:09

Oh yes - in Hungary they were called vodka bombers because the red bull came in grenade shaped bottle.

PinkChick · 11/09/2008 20:16

"I have been known to put a smidge of vodka in my dc from time to time"..by tigerfeet..i bet your (DC) children sleep well after that do they??

just got in from shopping forgot lots of stuff??..were is my head today??? but having steak with mushrooms, onions and sw chips...mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

coppertop · 11/09/2008 20:25
TigerFeet · 11/09/2008 20:30

my one dc is fast asleep upstairs as I type - please don't tell social services [quiver]

JackieNo · 11/09/2008 20:30

Lol at TigerFeet's DC and vodka. I'm not teetotal on purpose - I love alcohol it's just that I've got out of the habit of drinking it. DH is on ADs, and can't drink with them (or rather, he can, but even having one really small alcoholic drink gives him the hangover from hell on them, so he's decided to just give up).

Kewcumber · 11/09/2008 22:46

I am pretty much teetotal by choice now cut way back after a long period of heavy duty drinking (worked in advertising!) Its nice waking up without hangovers!

Tiger - vodka isn;t that high in calories though is it so a few vodkas with diet coke isn;t a disaster (though does make food much harder to resist IME)

MrsJohnCusack · 12/09/2008 12:15

I want to be in the right head space for losing some more weight but it just ain't happening

I hsven't even got the energy to type on here, or on the yahoo group. I am a dry husk, I tell you. maybe I'll cheer up when we get some more Spring weather.

i barely drink now, mainly cos of ADs and just getting out of the habit after being pregnant/breastfeeding etc.

kick up the arse required please

JackieNo · 12/09/2008 12:22

No kick up the arse, but how about a revoltingly twee message of encouragement to make you smile? Hun .

MrsJohnCusack · 12/09/2008 12:31

am off tgo bed now
maybe I'll wake up full of vigour and energy?

hahahahahahahaah
