BigMoFos: get your substantial arses over here for a regroup

WigWamBam · 29/08/2008 20:32

Those of you who were only with us in spirit for our meet-up today won't know this, but we have decided to regroup with renewed vigour, mount a new offensive, and also have a rethink about what we want from the MoFos threads and how we want them to work.

We are all decided that we need the threads to continue in one form or another but we are not sure that the weekly weigh-in/new thread is the way forward. It has been suggested that we have either a monthly thread, or that we go for one of the "chat"-type threads, which we plough on with until it's full.

With regard to a weigh-in, there was some thought that we could either simply post our weights or our losses (whichever we each prefer) every week on the ongoing thread. There is a chance that the weights could get lost among the chat, though, so if we prefer we could have a separate thread where we posts weights or losses on a weekly basis so that we can keep track of our own losses (or gains). Alternatively I am happy to collect and record weights/losses/gains as before, and post them as a single post - either on the chat thread or as part of a dedicated progress thread.

This is your group, and I would like to hear how you would like it to continue so that we can go back to offering the kind of support we are all capable of offering, and which we all so badly need. Please come and tell us what you need from the threads and how you would like them to work from now on.

One thing is for sure; kicks up the arse are compulsory and will be freely given (as soon as I finish off the Mississippi Mud Pie I bought home from the meet-up today )

I weighed myself this morning for the first time in ages.

Biiiiiig mistake

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 03/09/2008 12:25

Not a mistake WWB - it quite a positive thing to do actually - I know how big a hurdle getting on the scales can be. Well, know you know where you're starting from so you can start heading somewhere else. Otherwise you could be going around in circles and never realise. And you do know that you were that weight before getting on the scales. Knowing doesn't make you suddenly bigger than this morning! Though I know it feels that way.

Did any of that make sense!

WigWamBam · 03/09/2008 12:33

Perfect sense.

I know it doesn't make me any bigger than I was before I got on the scales. But I was horrified at how much I've put back on again. I'm nearly back where I started, almost two years ago.

Depressing thought.

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 03/09/2008 12:35

you and me both (on the upside any other period of my life I would have been another stone heavier two years later)

WigWamBam · 03/09/2008 12:53

I suppose the only consolation is that, as you say, if I hadn't lost the weight before I would just be two stone heavier than I was two years ago. But still.

Another four pounds and I will be too heavy for the scales.

Jeez.

I need a slap. A BIG one. Or a shake, not fussy which.

OP posts:
JackieNo · 03/09/2008 13:31

Must weigh myself. I'm still not really back with the programme, but getting there, so I think I'm subconsciously (or even consciously now) thinking that the longer I leave it, the longer I can carry on slacking.

Tigerfeet - how did DD's first day go? DS was fine, and so was I, thank goodness. It was ridiculously crowded and noisy in the classroom. I do keep thinking of him, and hoping he's OK. What are you doing about work while DD's at school in the mornings, rather than full days?

TigerFeet · 03/09/2008 13:34

I still have no battery for my scales

It's not deliberate but perhaps subconscious avoidance tactics?

JackieNo what a shock - glad there was no permanent damage done.

I did lose a bit earlier this year when I had a gallstone scare and had to watch my eating for a while. Now I've been dx'ed with moderate to severe IBS and prescribed antispasmodics and I can eat pretty much what I like again with no pain . I was the heaviest I've ever been at the beginning of this year and am creeping up to that point again.

Schneebly, I'm counting on you to provide a good example . No pressure

for WWB

TigerFeet · 03/09/2008 13:37

x posts there Jackie!

Just got home with dd - she was fine and so was I (surprisingly - I sobbed when I picked her up from her last day at nursery and was expectin gmore of the same today). It was very crowded in our classroom too - there are four reception classes but it's all open plan so it didn't feel too closed in.

I'm on annual leave this week and next - no other way I could manage dd's hours otherwise. I'm enjoying the break tbh - no work, no travelling, just me, my kettle and my computer

JackieNo · 03/09/2008 13:38

Sounds like bliss. What happens after the annual leave? I ended up shortening my hours to fit in with school hours, which works for us, but I know wouldn't for everyone.

TigerFeet · 03/09/2008 13:41

I've reduced my hours from 35 to 21 a week - no nursery fees so no need to bring as much in. Instead of working 8.45 - 4.15 5 days a week I'll be doing 9.30 - 5.00 3 days a week (Mon, Tue and Thu). I'll be able to drop her off every day and she'll be collected by a childminder on the three days I'm at work. It's a later finish but we should be home by 6 so not too bad.

I am so looking forward to Wednesdays adn Fridays when she'll be at school and I'll be at home, by myself, alone

JackieNo · 03/09/2008 13:43

Sounds good. I know what you mean about the nursery fees - that's our holiday/doing things to the house fund now (in theory, unless it just disappears into the bottomless pit of the mortgage etc).

WigWamBam · 03/09/2008 13:47

Thanks, Tiger

Am glad that your dd's first day at school was OK. I bawled my eyes out when dd started - still get teary when she goes back after the holidays.

Dd starts Juniors tomorrow and is really, really nervous. Am busy getting all her stuff ready - not sure how I'm going to manage to carry all her PE kits and things with me; shall feel like a pack-horse! (No change there then).

Morning all, this morning I am wearing a pair of pre pregnancy trousers which measn I don't have to fork out on clothes in a bugger size to wear while the weight drops off

TigerFeet · 04/09/2008 10:54

Hurrah Five that sounds good

pmsl @ "bugger size"

WigWamBam · 04/09/2008 10:57

"Bugger size" ...

OP posts:
schneebly · 04/09/2008 11:02

bugger size!

I am going to go for a smugger size!

JackieNo · 04/09/2008 12:09

lol FiveGoMad. I've realised, actually, that I'm in the same situation, trouser-wise, as you - I have a rather nice pair that I bought (bargain £5, reduced from about £70 as the website was in administration) last winter, I think it was. They fitted really nicely then, but were far too long. In the early summer, I finally got round to getting them shortened, but I'm now so much fatter that although they just about fit, they don't look good any more. I'd love to be able to wear them.

WigWamBam - how was DD this morning? Hope it went OK.

Lazycow · 04/09/2008 12:46

I'd like to join this thread. I certainly qualify I think. I've been fat on and off all my life really. Yo Yo dieting is really my addiiction I suppose (if you can call it that). I am currently in a Big phase. I lost 5 stone about 2 years ago but by the beginning of this year began to pile it on. Now, 5 stone heavier (at least I think- I can't bear to get on the scales) I am back to where I started.

My problem is that having lost weight at least 10 times in the last 30 years (2-5 stone each time) I am struggling with the motivation to continue (or even start) some sort of weight loss/control regime. I can't help but feel it will fail long-term. I may keep the weight off a while, even a year or two but my experience is that it ALWAYS goes back on. That sort of negative reinforcemnt (I've been reading another thread on this) is really difficult to overcome.

I have been thinking about this recently

www.beyondchocolate.co.uk/

Has anyone any experience of it. What do you think about the idea?

My view tbh is that it would probably work with people who have some weight to lose and who are on the yo yo diet cycle in a more minor way. I'm not sure it will work if you are as overweight as I am and with as deeply entrenched habits as I have.

I have to do something though, my shopping burst two months ago to buy bigger clothes is going to need to be repeated soon if I don't do something soon

FiveGoMadInDorset · 05/09/2008 08:13

I have lost 2 lbs this week so it is gradually coming down.

JackieNo · 05/09/2008 08:18

Hi Lazycow - definitely sounds as if you're a MoFo. Will explore the site you linked to. I've found these threads really helpful for talking to people who have the same food issues that I do, and exploring why I eat.

FiveGoMad - well done you. Fantastic. I only got round to weighing myself yesterday, so will wait till next week to see what (if anything) I've lost.

Do we have a separate weight posting thread yet? I'll start one later, if someone else doesn't get round to it first.

hecate · 05/09/2008 13:20

well, how are you all? I am today so I've put on over half a stone.

Listen, I hope you don't think I'm overstepping the mark, but I've set this up and it'd be lovely if you all joined.

PinkChick · 05/09/2008 13:38

Hi

Can i join in here too?

Am on another thread for gals with lots to lose and have just perused your yahoo page..

Ive been slimming now for just over 3 months (i think??) and have managed to lose 2st 5lb.

I have help in the form of reductil, whihc i begged my gp's nurse for when everything was falling by the waysaide along with my will power and control

despite my losses, i still weigh 14st 6 lb, so ignoring the stupid weight the liesure center scales suggest as being my best (7st 6lb!), im aiming for 12st, then possibly another 1 1/2 - 2 after that..so still approx 4 stone to lose

Found the other thread a life saver, not moving, just wanted another place to come to for butt kicking when needed ..have been around years now, so know most of you, but name changed a lot when ive been bored (been EvesMama, mrsmiawallace, strawberrysnowflakes and so on)

coppertop · 05/09/2008 14:30

Is it okay if I re-join you?

I haven't dared to weigh myself lately but can tell by my clothes that I've put more weight on.

I had that weird bug a couple of weeks ago which completely killed my appetite so I've lost a little already. However, like lots of you on here my over-eating isn't usually triggered by hunger.

coppertop · 05/09/2008 14:34

I've just clicked on your link, Hecate. I've got to go out in a few minutes but will gladly join up later this evening. It might be a good idea to change the privacy settings though. ATM anyone can read what's been posted.

Saying that, I have absolutely no idea how you would even go about changing it.

TigerFeet · 05/09/2008 14:37

Oooh loads of new MoFo's Hello all

Hecate I have joined your group

JackieNo, the bracelets arrived this morning, thanks so much for sending them back. DD was delighted to receive a parcel especially because there was a letter inside for her, so thanks as well for taking the time to do that.

WWB I see on FB that your dd seems to be settling well which I'm pleased to hear.

Still haven't got batteries for the goddam scales. I think I'm around the 17st mark.
