BigMoFos: get your substantial arses over here for a regroup

WigWamBam · 29/08/2008 20:32

Those of you who were only with us in spirit for our meet-up today won't know this, but we have decided to regroup with renewed vigour, mount a new offensive, and also have a rethink about what we want from the MoFos threads and how we want them to work.

We are all decided that we need the threads to continue in one form or another but we are not sure that the weekly weigh-in/new thread is the way forward. It has been suggested that we have either a monthly thread, or that we go for one of the "chat"-type threads, which we plough on with until it's full.

With regard to a weigh-in, there was some thought that we could either simply post our weights or our losses (whichever we each prefer) every week on the ongoing thread. There is a chance that the weights could get lost among the chat, though, so if we prefer we could have a separate thread where we posts weights or losses on a weekly basis so that we can keep track of our own losses (or gains). Alternatively I am happy to collect and record weights/losses/gains as before, and post them as a single post - either on the chat thread or as part of a dedicated progress thread.

This is your group, and I would like to hear how you would like it to continue so that we can go back to offering the kind of support we are all capable of offering, and which we all so badly need. Please come and tell us what you need from the threads and how you would like them to work from now on.

One thing is for sure; kicks up the arse are compulsory and will be freely given (as soon as I finish off the Mississippi Mud Pie I bought home from the meet-up today )

Link didn't work - hopefully this does
Thanks Kew - will have a look. Just what we were saying the NHS needed.

JackieNo · 31/08/2008 20:33

Seems to be run by the people who make Reductil.

Kewcumber · 31/08/2008 22:37

Yes I think it may be but GP's are certainly giving it out to people who are overweight so I suspect it has some NHS backing.

schneebly · 01/09/2008 09:19

Hi ladies - didn't get to Boots yesterday but will today and hope it hasn't changed that much since last time.

Kew - will have a look at that website thanks for sharing.

Now I also really need to get back to the docs and get my repeat liver function test done It has been months now. I am hoping that if there is something wrong with my liver then that is why I am fat!

Kewcumber · 01/09/2008 10:06

hate to break this to you rshcneebly but when I had an abnormal liver function test it turned out to be becasue I was fat . Sure your's will be differnt and be the answer to all your dreams

schneebly · 01/09/2008 13:02

lol Kew That is more likely!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 01/09/2008 13:15

Ok I am back doing sensible eating properly after a weekend of too much alcohol. I can do it, we can do it, I need to lose another half a stone before the end of this month otherwise I have to fork out money on new trousers.

JackieNo · 01/09/2008 14:03

Why's that, Five? (ooh - makes you sound like one of the Borg, sorry about that). Presume you have trousers you need to wear at the end of the month, but don't currently fit into them?

FiveGoMadInDorset · 01/09/2008 14:54

Perhaps that can be my new name , I have trousers which are the largest size in my wardrobe, I am losing pregnancy weight and don't want to buy bigger pairs just to wear for a month or so (Thinking positive)for the winter as had to buy bigger pairs fro the summer and can just about get away with wearing them until end of September

schneebly · 01/09/2008 16:45

Kewcumber - been having a look at that site and filling out my details, seems like quite a good resource.

Bad news is I went to Boots to weigh and I have gained weight since the last time (couple of months ago)- about 6 pounds! Has spurred me on a bit though! I have made a delicious smelling beef casserole for dinner tonight but I think I will be light on the beef and heavy on the veggies!

I have worked out that I actually need to get to 16 stones and 10 pounds to get my BMI under the 40 mark and I would love to do it before the end of the year then I would treat myself in the January sales!

Kewcumber · 01/09/2008 20:33

I've set my first 12 week goal as lose 2 stone - do you think thats a bit ambitious? Really I mean by Xmas so I'm hoping that will be achieveable.
I'd really like to start walking 20 mins a day in my lunch-hour. Its not really enough but I'll be chuffed if I actually do it!

schneebly · 01/09/2008 22:24

Kew - My goal is very similar! I want to lose around the same amount and I put the date in as xmas eve I think that it is totally do-able if we remain focused. It is what about 16 weeks so 2lbs a week would be more than enough to get us there and is a sensible rate of loss. Wwould be nice to be able to buy stuff for me in the 'next' sale!

As for the 20 mins walk in your lunch hour I think that if that is 20 mins more than you are doing now then it is great! Exercise-wise I would like to walk the afternoon school run 3 times per week (it is about 20 mins brisk one way but will be slower coming back with the kids) and would also love to swim a couple of times per week. I am starting University part time and will be going there 2 days per week and they have a pool so might try and combine my swimming days with uni!

Well I did it - I had a sensible breakfast! Porridge and an apple - was lovely yum!

Kewcumber · 02/09/2008 09:45

well had 4 ryvitas with the last of my cheddar (note to self: stop buying cheddar) as a "snack" last night cos I was so starving . SWensible breakfast has so afr consisted of a cup of coffee but am about to make myself some porridge if I have time before next meeting.

schneebly · 02/09/2008 09:50

well at least you had ryvitas with the cheese ! Hope you have time for some porridge good to stave away the hunger!

TigerFeet · 02/09/2008 10:01

Morning everyone

Well whatever it is that needs to click in my brain for this to work hasn't clicked thus far... I made a mahoosive apple cake on Sunday (alongside a roast dinner and dh making bread) and am slowly munching my way through it... tbh I am impressed with my restraint in still having some left on Tuesday but in reality I am having a couple of good sized slices every day. Not good. I am a lot more active with not being at work, yesterday I scrubbed the kitchen and bathroom, hoovered car, mowed lawn and other general domesticity. At work I am plonked in front of a desk all day munching biscuits.

I don't have a goal as such atm - perhaps no more baking () and keep up the higher activity levels will do for now.

DD starts school tomorrow (gulp) for mornings only until 15th Sept which will give me time to go swimming or something in the morning. JackieNo your ds starts tomorrow as well doesn't he? There seems to be a lot starting today.

JackieNo · 02/09/2008 15:19

Hi all. It's been pretty manic on the work front here (even though I'm supposed to be on annual leave). So Tigerfeet, I'm afraid I haven't yet posted your DD's bracelets - will do it tomorrow, as I'm back at work, so I hope things will calm down a bit. Yes - DS is starting tomorrow - full time, as well, so I'm expecting him to be a bit exhausted by the end of the day for a while.

Haven't been doing very well either - still no running. And yesterday had a bit of a binge - the old emotional eating thing again. But I think you'll understand when I explain...

I was just thinking about getting DS to bed, around 7.20 last night, when there was the most almighty crash from his bedrooom. I hared upstairs as fast as I can, dreading what I'd fin d when I got there. DS has a cupboard in his room with shelves on top (a bit like a dresser). DD had spotted one of DH's computer games on the top shelf, and climbed up to try to get it. And then the whole shelf bit fell off the bottom cabinet bit. Either or both of them could have been badly injured, or worse. But luckily all they had was a couple of clonks from some books. It made my blood run cold. And by golly there was some shouting, and they were crying, and we were all in shock, I think. Nothing was broken, but I'm not strong enough to put it back together on my own, and DH was out for the night, so we cleared it up as best we could. Then I got them to bed. Then I ate a large quantity of chocolate. I'm still reeling, tbh. I can't understand why she would do something so bloody stupid. But she won't do it again. We haven't actually punished her - there was no need - she was fully aware of what a dangerous thing she'd done, and extremely upset and sorry. And then I worked on the report thingy till 1am. So I'm really quite looking forward to going back to work. Blimey - sorry for the length of this.

schneebly · 02/09/2008 16:54

Tigerfeet - no more baking! Bet you burned up a few slices of applecake with all that housework though!

Jackie - of you poor thing! Sounds very upsetting. It is a horrible thing to think 'what if?' I am glad everyone is ok though. I bet your DS will be exhausted after school - my DS1 started reception on full days last year and he was only just 4! He actually fell asleep into his dinner more than once in that first week! When are you back at work?

FiveGoMadInDorset · 02/09/2008 16:58

Jackie - glad there are no injuries, reminds me vaguely when I was about 5 or 6 and was lying in front of the TV (bear in mind this was about '75 '76) which was on a three legged table and decided to rock the table back and forth and then the big tv landed on my face, and then there was the time that I decided to play Tarzan on the curtains and went through the window while it was still closed and then there was the time .....

JackieNo · 02/09/2008 17:13

schneebly - back at work tomorrow, for a rest, I think .

FiveGoMad - glad it's not just my DCs. To be fair, we've been pretty lucky so far, with accidents etc.

WigWamBam · 02/09/2008 17:20

Oh, Jackie

They just don't think, do they. As mature and sensible as we think they are, they just keep proving over and over again that they really are still only very young, and don't always understand.

Glad they were both unhurt, must have been such a shock for you all.

I can't get into the swing of this again. Maybe when dd goes back to school and I go back to work it will be easier to get to grips with. Roll on Wednesday!

OP posts:
schneebly · 02/09/2008 17:54

right you lot who can't get into the swing - I am quite motivated (for once) so I am going to wow you all so much with my weight loss next week that you wil be inspired!

JackieNo · 02/09/2008 19:30

Excellent - that's what we need. A good example.

schneebly · 02/09/2008 21:03

Right so now I am not allowed to fall at the first hurdle - I ahve put a little pressure on myself! Should do me good!
