BigMoFos: get your substantial arses over here for a regroup

Those of you who were only with us in spirit for our meet-up today won't know this, but we have decided to regroup with renewed vigour, mount a new offensive, and also have a rethink about what we want from the MoFos threads and how we want them to work.

We are all decided that we need the threads to continue in one form or another but we are not sure that the weekly weigh-in/new thread is the way forward. It has been suggested that we have either a monthly thread, or that we go for one of the "chat"-type threads, which we plough on with until it's full.

With regard to a weigh-in, there was some thought that we could either simply post our weights or our losses (whichever we each prefer) every week on the ongoing thread. There is a chance that the weights could get lost among the chat, though, so if we prefer we could have a separate thread where we posts weights or losses on a weekly basis so that we can keep track of our own losses (or gains). Alternatively I am happy to collect and record weights/losses/gains as before, and post them as a single post - either on the chat thread or as part of a dedicated progress thread.

This is your group, and I would like to hear how you would like it to continue so that we can go back to offering the kind of support we are all capable of offering, and which we all so badly need. Please come and tell us what you need from the threads and how you would like them to work from now on.

One thing is for sure; kicks up the arse are compulsory and will be freely given (as soon as I finish off the Mississippi Mud Pie I bought home from the meet-up today )

Hi everyone - so glad that we are getting up and running again . I really desperately need to lose weight - am around a stone and a half heavier now that when MoFo's started and it is serious - my BMI is now around 42 which makes me 'morbidly obese' and I am really feeling it. Big life changes ahead - I am going back to University (part-time) next month and am also going to be TTC number 3 although who knows if anything will happen with me at this weight?!

My goals are as follows;

  • Eat 3 'proper' meals a day (this is where I go really wrong)
  • Walk to school at least 3 times per week
  • First goal weight wise is to get my BMI below 40 again - need to get weighed but think this will mean losing between 16 and 20 lbs.

I shall weigh myself at boots tomorrow to get my starting point.

Nice one schneebly - how did the singing go?

schneebly · 30/08/2008 15:57

It went really well thank you I had almost lost my voice by the time it came to sing Happy Birthday to Mr Owen though! Too much nervous practising!

schneebly · 30/08/2008 15:57

Oh and they gave me lovely flowers as well as some money! I had offered to do it for free because I am not exactly a pro y'know.

JackieNo · 30/08/2008 15:58

lol. I'm imagining you as Marilyn Monroe now. Glad it went well.

JackieNo · 30/08/2008 15:59

OOh - how lovely of them. Do you think you might get more bookings on the back of it?

schneebly · 30/08/2008 16:00

I wish jackie! If I ever get thin enough I will dress up as Marilyn for a MoFo's meet up

JackieNo · 30/08/2008 16:01

. Now there's a thought - a MoFos fancy dress meetup...

schneebly · 30/08/2008 16:01

Not sure Jackie - most of the people there were family who had travelled from other places but it was good experience anyway I might get up the courage on of these days to go to a local open mic thingy.

schneebly · 30/08/2008 16:03

yes jackie I was looking online at 'plus size' fancy dress last night because DH has roped us into attending some Medieval thingy at the Golf Club He says he is going as William Wallace complete with blue facepaint - now that will go down well here in England He has no shame!

JackieNo · 30/08/2008 16:09

Oh dear - poor you! Might be more fun than it sounds. Hope you can find something.

schneebly · 30/08/2008 16:14

He said " but we have to go as we are at the Lady Captain's table!" so? I am being mean now - it is his place of work and they are rather good to us with the house etc.

I did see a few things online though the 'fuller cut' ones are quite a bit more expensive that your standard costumes - will keep looking! Worried about the food - bet it is a hog roast!

schneebly · 30/08/2008 16:16

aha trusty ebay! not bad at all compared to what I ahve already seen!

JackieNo · 30/08/2008 16:50

Ooh - that's rather nice. Good with a nice push-up bra. Get that cleavage working . You're right - the plus size ones do seem very expensive. Might you be able to hire something?

schneebly · 30/08/2008 16:51

yes a push a bra would work - my breastage is prob my best feature Might bid on that one will so how high it goes if not will try hire.

WigWamBam · 30/08/2008 16:58

Jackie, I can't let her have the dress. If anyone finds out my daughter was wearing Boden, I won't be able to show my face!

The jeans, on the other hand, look perfect. And I am giddy with excitement that La Redoute do up to a size 34! Their underwear doesn't go up big enough though

Shneebs, I love that dress ... doesn't go big enough to fit me, but I could quite fancy myself in one of those.

JackieNo · 30/08/2008 17:00

Surely second hand (or probably in this case at least fourth hand) Boden doesn't count, does it?

WigWamBam · 30/08/2008 17:03

That's probably the most coveted type of all, knowing my luck

whilst I remember WWB I kept meaning to say on Friday how nice your hair looked. Have you had it cut/coloured since last time?

I relaly enjoyed meeting on Friday despite by DS terrorising yours Jackie with his wild ways! And stealing kisses and hugs from the girls at every oppotunity - that boy is shameless!

So is the overall decision that we will have a weight thread and a chat thread and people can contibute to both/either as they wish? At least it would mean if you are having a difficult time you can avoid the weight thread and come to the chat thread for support. Depending on how self conscious anyone feels we can always set up a private yahoo group by invitation and put weights on that then invite anyone new to join.

Its easy enough to do - I moderate a couple of yahoo groups and you can entirely use it via email if you can't be arsed with another webgroup.

schneebly · 30/08/2008 21:29

lol @ Boden shame

JackieNo · 30/08/2008 21:32

You're right Kew - WWB's hair was looking good.

Your DS is sooo cute, Kew - I loved the way he said my DS's name. It's a fab age.

If we have a weights thread, we don't have to post our actual weights if we don't want - just amount lost, if that works better for people - and totals lost to date if they fancy keeping track of that too.

schneebly · 30/08/2008 21:34

Yes I agree about amounts lost and totals to date that would be less cringeworthy

JackieNo · 30/08/2008 21:37

But anyone who was happy to post their actual weight could do so too.

WigWamBam · 30/08/2008 22:10

Thank you

Yes, I had it cut short a couple of months ago, then, having had boring, mousy-brown hair forever, I had a bit of a moment of madness and threw a rather red semi-permanent colour at it. It's faded quite a bit now, it was much redder to start with and I really liked it.

Kew, dh was rather taken by your ds too ... apparently he made a bee-line for him, shouted "MAN!!" several times in a rather loud and excited way, grabbed his hand and took him off for a tour of the garden and (several) trips up and down the stairs ... dh knows his place

A separate weights thread could work any way we wanted it to, really - we don't all have to stick to the same format. There is nothing stopping some of us posting our weight and some of us just our losses (or gains).

Saparate weight thread would also allow people to weigh in whichever day they prefer. Are we going to runa thread until it dies or shall we have amonthly thread and start a new Sept one tomorrow?

I signed up to this today and I'd recommend it - it has a lot of infomration and takes a while to plough through (I haven't finished yet) but has a nice facility to track your weight. Its free and I think run by the NHS changeforlifeonline.com
