BigMoFos: get your substantial arses over here for a regroup

WigWamBam · 29/08/2008 20:32

Those of you who were only with us in spirit for our meet-up today won't know this, but we have decided to regroup with renewed vigour, mount a new offensive, and also have a rethink about what we want from the MoFos threads and how we want them to work.

We are all decided that we need the threads to continue in one form or another but we are not sure that the weekly weigh-in/new thread is the way forward. It has been suggested that we have either a monthly thread, or that we go for one of the "chat"-type threads, which we plough on with until it's full.

With regard to a weigh-in, there was some thought that we could either simply post our weights or our losses (whichever we each prefer) every week on the ongoing thread. There is a chance that the weights could get lost among the chat, though, so if we prefer we could have a separate thread where we posts weights or losses on a weekly basis so that we can keep track of our own losses (or gains). Alternatively I am happy to collect and record weights/losses/gains as before, and post them as a single post - either on the chat thread or as part of a dedicated progress thread.

This is your group, and I would like to hear how you would like it to continue so that we can go back to offering the kind of support we are all capable of offering, and which we all so badly need. Please come and tell us what you need from the threads and how you would like them to work from now on.

One thing is for sure; kicks up the arse are compulsory and will be freely given (as soon as I finish off the Mississippi Mud Pie I bought home from the meet-up today )

ooh, I thought I'd changed it to private! Will do it now!

hecate · 05/09/2008 15:06

ok, I've changed it now, so initially folks will need to email me to get invited - mud24 at hotmail dot co dot uk

I know it was cheeky of me, but I'd love it to be OUR group, our safe place, where we can do a weekly weigh in and stuff without feeling shy!

hecate · 05/09/2008 15:17

I have invited WWB to join and kind of thought, since she is head of MoFo on here, that she'd be a mod and continue to keep everyone together on the yahoo group.

talk about making assumptions, eh?

JackieNo · 05/09/2008 15:37

TigerFeet - glad they arrived. Sorry it took me so long to do it.

Hecate - fab idea - will email you.

Welcome (back) to Coppertop and Pinkchick.

WigWamBam · 05/09/2008 16:06

Oooh, new MoFos Nice to see you all.

Good idea, Hecate. Not sure I'm really head MoFo though ... will pop along and join the group in a bit.

Tiger, she's doing OK. Still a bit wobbly and a bit nervous but starting to settle down a bit. They had a few teething problems yesterday (the teachers seem to think that the Y3s somehow ought to know what the routines are, despite them being new to the school) but they seem to have ironed them out a bit today. She'll be fine How's your dd getting on?

coppertop · 05/09/2008 20:02

WWB - Your dd can't be in Yr3 already??!! Where has the time gone?

Thanks for the welcomes.

I've just e-mailed you, Hecate.

I now just need to be brave and find out what my new starting weight is.

WigWamBam · 05/09/2008 22:01

Yep, she went into Y3 two days ago. She's 7 now, unbelievably (and going on 37, I reckon).

Hop on the scales, ct - it's got to be done! And as Kew said earlier on, knowing what you weigh doesn't make you suddenly bigger than you were before you stepped on them.

Yahoo seems to be playing up at the moment, I can read all your messages but can't post at the moment. Will catch up with you all tomorrow.

love the idea of a private space. i think actually writing down the figures to others will really help me, but I'm not doing it on here!

am enjoying seeing lots of names both new and old. onwards and upwards!

cheekysealion · 06/09/2008 09:31

JackieNo · 07/09/2008 19:27

Kewcumber · 08/09/2008 12:45

I second WWB as Queen Bee (aka moderator)

Kewcumber · 08/09/2008 12:46

isn;t five books aboput compulsive eating a bit... well... compulsive

schneebly · 08/09/2008 12:49

How are we all getting on? My initial morivation dwindled somewhat but I have definitely been more restrained than usual this week. I will weigh at boots later on and see if I am down any on last week - hopefully have lost a couple of pounds.

Hello to newbies! Nice to 'see' you all

Kewcumber · 08/09/2008 12:50

I think I'm in the same place Schneebly not great but certainly more restrained/controleld than I have been. Not sure the reductil is having any effect though.

hockeypuck · 08/09/2008 12:57

Hi again ladies, I was part of Big MoFos a couple of years ago when WWB first started it but have fallen by the wayside. I hope you kind ladies and gents will welcome me back.

I started Reductil today, so am interested how you find it Pink Lady - It hasn't stopped me being starving hungry all day today so not impressed yet! I need to lose at least half my body weight so have a long long way to go. Weirdly though I am one of the most sociable of my friends and family and very busy so I don't just sit eating choc all day (though have huge issues with it!)

I'll email you Hecate if thats ok and join you all on the Yahoo group.

Kewcumber · 08/09/2008 13:04

I'm inthe same boat (ie half my body weight and just started on reductil) where yiou another name ebfore - your DD looks familiar but your MN name doesn't ring any bells

JackieNo · 08/09/2008 13:18

Hi all - agree with Schneebly and Kewcumber, I'm feeling a bit more motivated now. Not sure I'll have lost, because the feeling hasn't always translated into doing (or not doing, iyswim). We'll see.

hockeypuck · 08/09/2008 13:47

No Kew, I've always been either hockeymum or hockeypuck, or Christmas and Easter variations of the same. Have been on MN for 6 years all in all I think.

Have you had any side effects of Reductil? I'm concerned about the possibility of palpitations most of all I guess but I really want it to work and get this weight off quickly. My friend has just done a variation of LighterLife, I think it's called Lipotrim or something similar. She lost 7 stone in 3-4 months and has kept it off for 5 months so far. She did look completly awful while she was doing it, bad skin, lank hair, no energy or drive at all, but looks great now. It's so weird seeing someone I have only known as fat, being thin, bu it really suits her and makes me keen to transform too. I really don't want to have to resort to something with no food like she did, or surgery like Lady Fern, but I'd love to look more like my character than I do.

schneebly · 08/09/2008 13:50

Is reductil the attepite supressant one? The one that gives you the runs if you eat fatty food is something else?

hockeypuck · 08/09/2008 13:50

Kew - postscript. Just had a look at your profile pics to see if I knew you (would make sense if my DD looked familiar) but I don't.

But that last photo of you giving your gorgeous DS a huge hug is just the most lovely picture ever - gorgeous.

schneebly · 08/09/2008 13:51

hockeypuck - i remember you as Hockeymum! Your kids are beautiful BTW/

Kewcumber · 08/09/2008 13:52

reductil is the appetite suppressant - its supposed to make you feel full quicker but no great signs of that yet! I haven't had any real side effects yet. I get palpitations from time to time anyway and dont really stress about them as I know they're not dangerous but haven't noticed any so far.

schneebly · 08/09/2008 13:52

Oh lordy I wrote attepite instead of appetite lol! Must preview!!!

schneebly · 08/09/2008 13:53

thanks kew - not sure that would work for me because I don't really feel hungry I just eat anyway

hockeypuck · 08/09/2008 13:53

Schneebly. Reductil is the appetite suppressant one - it works on your brain I think, you still get hungry but you feel full sooner. It works a little bit like Speed I think! Gives you energy and makes you feel full.

The one with the runs is Orlistat or Xenical. It works in the gut and takes the fat straight out of the food and through the body - hence the oily runs! Haven't got time for that so talked the practice nurse into Reductil. You get regular monitoriing with Reductil too, every two weeks they check your blood pressure and weight (so no need to pay for weight watchers or something). Although neither would be appropriate if you are TTC.
