BigMoFos: get your substantial arses over here for a regroup

WigWamBam · 29/08/2008 20:32

Those of you who were only with us in spirit for our meet-up today won't know this, but we have decided to regroup with renewed vigour, mount a new offensive, and also have a rethink about what we want from the MoFos threads and how we want them to work.

We are all decided that we need the threads to continue in one form or another but we are not sure that the weekly weigh-in/new thread is the way forward. It has been suggested that we have either a monthly thread, or that we go for one of the "chat"-type threads, which we plough on with until it's full.

With regard to a weigh-in, there was some thought that we could either simply post our weights or our losses (whichever we each prefer) every week on the ongoing thread. There is a chance that the weights could get lost among the chat, though, so if we prefer we could have a separate thread where we posts weights or losses on a weekly basis so that we can keep track of our own losses (or gains). Alternatively I am happy to collect and record weights/losses/gains as before, and post them as a single post - either on the chat thread or as part of a dedicated progress thread.

This is your group, and I would like to hear how you would like it to continue so that we can go back to offering the kind of support we are all capable of offering, and which we all so badly need. Please come and tell us what you need from the threads and how you would like them to work from now on.

One thing is for sure; kicks up the arse are compulsory and will be freely given (as soon as I finish off the Mississippi Mud Pie I bought home from the meet-up today )

yes I thought as much hockeypuck - dont really want to discuss TTc with my doctor at this point because I am sure he will try to talk me out of it because of my weight so will just say no if he suggests any medication.

Kewcumber · 08/09/2008 13:59

"I don't really feel hungry I just eat anyway ", thats true of me too schneebly but I do think I also have an enormous appetite (probably from years of overeating) I decided that at least knocking one on the head made it easier to deal with just the emotional side of eating.

I must admit that I have felt uncomfortably full a few times this weekend when perhaps before I would have been grazing and hour later. Maybe it is having some affect?

Kewcumber · 08/09/2008 14:00

Gives you energy - really That would be a turn up for the books!

schneebly · 08/09/2008 14:01

Kew - yes that makes sense! I think I probably have a skewed view on my appetite anyway. The full feeling you had at the weekend sounds promising. Hope it helps

annoyingdevil · 08/09/2008 14:02

Hi ladies. Do you mind if I join you? I have around 4 stone to lose (but am happy to settle for 3).

My problem is that I'm a total sugar addict, throw in the fact that I love savoury stuff too and am also a compulsive eater....a recipe for disaster really!!

Kewcumber · 08/09/2008 14:16

hockeypuck - aws an aside... I was at Uni in Cardiff (too long ago to admit to) and its the only place in Wales I'd consider moving back to. Slightly jealous you live there - are you atcually in Cardiff or outside.

Kewcumber · 08/09/2008 14:17

ooh fresh blood! I think the more the merrier - theres a hard core of us who would no doubt benefit from someone new to bore discuss things with.

PinkChick · 08/09/2008 14:23

Hi everyone.sorry came on and lost thiis thread over weekend..for everyone asking about the reductil, i guess it works for some not for others..i am very gullable mind over matter ..and after about 30 minutes of taking my first one, i actually felt 'full', like id just drank lots of water!?..i somehow clicked and for 12 weeks didnt snack, didnt eat chocolate (apart fromhi lights) and lost a lot of weight quickly..if i forget to take a tablet i 'know' as my 'picking' creeps up on me!..they dont make you go to loo, said def NO to them!, they just make you feel full quicker so eat less at meal times and like i say it has REALLY worked for me am over the moon with them.
Only side effects i got/sometimes still get are feeling hotter and dry mouth..was LOL when side effect symtems inside box said warning may cause loss of appetite!?

Anyway, had a good week last week and although my official weigh day isnt till tomorrow, ive lost 3lbs this week, 34lbs all together..it felt fantastic today going into monsson needing a pair of trousers for holiday and picking up a size 16 that ACTUALLY fit..have ALWAYS been 20-22..so I HEART REDUCTIL

Kewcumber · 08/09/2008 14:29

are you on 10mg Pinkchick? My GP will assess afetr 4 weeks and may put me up to 15mg - tbh I'm 5'9" and nearly 21 stone so there's a lot of body a measly 10mg has to cover!

Kewcumber · 08/09/2008 14:30

and obviously a giant brain (which is what it actually works on!)

hecate · 08/09/2008 14:55

Well, I made WWB a mod on the BigMoFo Yahoo group here but you have to be invited and (once invited and a member) sign in to see anything so now me and WWB can do that. I felt, and I know you agree with me, that BigMoFo is WWB's 'baby' as it were, so fair is fair!

mamadiva · 08/09/2008 15:12

Hey everyone, just saw this and had to come over and ask if I could join!

I soo need to get back on track with my dieting but need some moral support

hecate · 08/09/2008 15:53

Hi there. This is a great thread - they are all so friendly and understanding and have great advice, (and kicks up bum! ) so I think you'll really benefit from it.

Kewcumber · 08/09/2008 16:05

Given that we have a few new people or old people with new intentions is perhaps more accurate, is it worth rehashing what we set up as the BigMoFo's creed orginally?

I'll see if I can find it...

hecate · 08/09/2008 16:08

ooh, WWB should put that on the YAHOO group homepage as its intro then..

Kewcumber · 08/09/2008 16:13

This was our original "one rule" may 2006

No perfect people allowed and that means: No apologising for posts that are not perfectly spelled and punctuated, corrections allowed if you make a mistake that changed the meaning of the post. Otherwise we'll work out what you meant we're smart cookies, no apologising for not sharing your weight if you don't want to, no apologising for falling off the wagon (share, discuss and move on).

PinkChick · 08/09/2008 17:02

Hi Kewcumber, theyre 10mg i think but will check packet downstairs?...

cheekysealion · 08/09/2008 19:53

Hi all

I wish my GP would let me try reductil..
Maybe i need to pluck up the courage to ask him again
I have had a good restrained day thankfully

Hope you all have to

JackieNo · 08/09/2008 20:04

Fairly restrained - but I did weigh myself, and I've put on a bit. So that gives me the push to be even more restrained (I hope).

Kewcumber · 08/09/2008 20:29

sealion - my doctor just asked me which drug I wanted I'd asked what the surgery could do to help me lose weight and was expecting to be offered weigh-in with the nurse etc. However I am 10 stone overweight so perhaps that makes a difference.

cheekysealion · 08/09/2008 20:32

maybe if i explain to him that my mum had gastric bypass last year weighing 28stone...
he may realise it is learnt behaviour..

I do also realise that i dont eat because i am hungry i just eat and eat and eat...

TigerFeet · 08/09/2008 20:38

Hi all

Well have finally got a battery for the bathroom scales and there is a 8lb - 8lb!! - difference between what I weighed on Saturday evening and this morning . I'm struggling to beleive I have lost 8lb in 36 hours... let's see what tomorrow brings shall we?

I have never tried reductil but was prescribed Xenical which had no effect whatsoever on my eating habits or, ahem, the aftereffects thereof so I stopped taking it after the first month. My GP has recently left the practise, I had built up a great relationship with her and I will find it difficult to go through it all again with another doctor. THis is compounded by my daughter having been at nursery with, and now being in the same class at school as, the son of the other decent GP at the practice - somehow I don't feel I can really open up to him when I see him occasionally in the playground. Daft? Probably, but there you have it.

Kewcumber · 08/09/2008 20:39

to be fair sealion I doubt many of us got to be this size by eating because we were hungry!

TigerFeet · 08/09/2008 20:41

practise/practice - take yer pick

TigerFeet · 08/09/2008 20:44

Can't frigging spell believe either

In mitigation I am a science graduate and only studied English to GCSE. Let's just ignore the fact that I do proof reading for a living shall we?
