Just that really. I used to be a on a short person weight loss thread and can't see a current one. I'm 5'1, 41 and 10st 5lb and need to get down to 9st. I had a baby in May and had got down to 9st 3lb before the pregnancy. So far I'm finding it quite hard to cut the calories down and need to work on that, and obviously need to fit exercise in around the baby but at least being on mat leave helps with that.

If there isn't a thread already I'd love to join this!

I'm 5'2, 45 and weigh about the same as you.

I've been calorie counting but read conflicting advice so I'm wondering whether just to cut my portion size down, eat a lot of protein to avoid snacking and try and exercise every day even if it's only walking although I love weight training.

thislittlebird · 29/07/2024 23:05

@Livedandlearned welcome to this one!

I’ve had success with calorie counting before so probably will do that again. I’m a terrible snacker so logging everything helps me keep it under control. But I was thinking today that I might meal plan in advance, it might help me plan snacks etc too. I made overnight oats for the morning, have leftover pizza and salad for lunch, and can hopefully come up with a dinner for tomorrow that will work within my calories.

I used to do 1 or 2 shakes per day to kickstart the weight loss and also because it was easy but I can’t do that now in case it gives me stomach issues so I’ll have to think more about what I can eat each day, which sucks. I do find getting enough protein quite hard, husband is veggie so we probably don’t eat enough.

I’m also trying to do something every day. Tomorrow I’ll try to do a weights video on YouTube probably, there’s a really good channel I use that I found great for toning up last year.

It's really hard isn't it, I want to do all the things I've said but it takes a lot of planning and I'm sometimes I'm very good at that and sometimes I'm really not!

If I have somewhere to be accountable then I think I'll be a lot better!

Swearwolf · 30/07/2024 10:13

Can I join you? I'm 5'2" and just turned 40. Currently weigh about 10 stone, down from 10.10 last year - it's taken me a good 9 months to lose that amount and I need to lose the same again. My first little goal is 9 stone 10, that's when I shift into the healthy weight category on the NHS calculator.

At the moment, I'm eating too much. I go through phases of healthier eating and then mad snacking. Try to run three times a week (I'm quite slow and don't go a particularly long way) and do 1-2 yoga classes. I find that the more exercise I do the less crap I want to eat!

The real key for me, though, is alcohol. If I stick to a couple of drinks once or twice a week, the weight comes off more easily. If I slip into having a gin in the sunshine every evening, that's when it becomes impossible. Summer holidays are also not helping as we have eaten out more than usual!

ComealongMartha · 30/07/2024 10:53

Me please.
I’m 5”2. Currently one week in to Intermittent Fasting and fast 800. I’m enjoying it so far and don’t feel deprived. I’m definitely all or nothing, once I start eating I’m a lost cause so having an eating window is really helpful for me.

Livedandlearned · 30/07/2024 11:55

Ooh I'm really interested in the fast 800, my colleagues followed that method with great success.

MrsDeanAmbrose · 30/07/2024 20:14

Me please. Am 5ft 2, 40something and in the last 2 months have come down from 12 and a half stone to 11st 11lb. Have been calorie counting on MfP, no breakfast, healthy salad with a protein for lunch and then a normal tea (around the kids activities so usually something quick and not that healthy) with a bit of leeway for a glass of wine/beer if fancy.

Am mostly desk bound so snacking used to be my nemesis. A lot more to lose though

mortalmandy · 30/07/2024 20:31

I'm in! I'm 5'2''. Two weeks ago I was 11 13. Am now 11 5. Combination of intermittent fasting and approximating 800-100 cals daily. I have a sedentary desk job so have also tried to hit 10000 steps daily.

Not sure if I'll continue to lose. About to go on holiday for two weeks ...

TurquoiseDress · 31/07/2024 05:02

Hello fellow short people!

I'm 5ft3/161cm and current weight 65.5kg just calculated my BMI and it's 25.2 telling me I'm overweight Sad

Been trying to lose weight since before Easter, mainly by healthier eating and increasing exercise...but it doesn't seem to be working sadly

My heaviest weight was 68kg in the New year...last time I hit that was during Covid lockdowns winter 2020/21

Got down to around 61kg by spring 2022, cannot seem to achieve that any longer

Also now have turned 45 so wonder if peri menopause is having an effect (not that I've experienced any specific symptoms)

Great to find a thread for short people!

Really think it's so much more of a struggle when you're short and every extra kilo seems to be obvious compared with taller people (I know this is a simplistic viewpoint!)

Also, I've never really spoken to anyone in real life about my weight/wanting to lose, I used to be what I'd term 'skinny' and 54kg was my usual weight.

Swearwolf · 31/07/2024 06:09

Well, yesterday I seemed to eat my whole kitchen and I had two gins in the paddling pool in the evening. Today I have a renewed energy for healthy eating and am going to do a whole lot better! Starting with a yoga class this morning.

Swearwolf · 31/07/2024 06:11

@mortalmandy I have a desk job too and it makes things so hard doesn't it? I am lucky enough to work from home, though, and can exercise on my lunch break.

ISolemnlySwearIAmUpToNoGood · 31/07/2024 07:01

I'll join please! I'm 5 foot and 35. Had my second baby 9 months ago and put on so much weight that I haven't shifted any of yet. Too scared to see what the scales say but still can't fit in any of my clothes 🤦🏻‍♀️ I definitely eat too many snacks though which I think needs to be the first thing to stop. I'm hoping going back to work next month will mean I have less time to think about food!

motherdaughter · 31/07/2024 07:18

Me me me! 5'2, 68.8kg. aiming for under 60.

I started at the weekend. Using mfp on 1250 calories plus 16:8 IF.

I got into a bad habit of evening snacking and alcohol most nights.

Good exercise at the weekend - running &biking and climbing Monday plus a lot of gardening (mainly digging over a new. Bed and making a pond).

I ate back some of my calories I burned but not all.
Also trying to increase my protein so eating protein shake mousse for pudding.

Should have gone to the gym when I woke up at 6 this morning but I didn't.

ATribeCalledQuestion · 31/07/2024 07:26

Ooh hello shorties! I'm 5ft and I weighed 10st3 before I came on holiday 😂 I really struggle to get under 10 stone - my ideal weight is between 8.5 and 9 stone but I just can't crack the under 10st barrier!!

When I'm not on holiday I loosely follow SW, I try not to snack and I go to the gym 3/4 times a week. I don't intent to weigh myself until I've had a couple of weeks back to work after summer (I'm term time work only) as I know I'll have gained over the 5 weeks!

I'm currently in Cornwall, oh the pasties! And cream teas! And the Cornish cheese! Yeah, I may be looking at trying to break back into the 10st bracket after all this haha

JusWunderin · 31/07/2024 07:28

Can I join please?

I’m 28, 5ft and I’ve just hit 13st I am appalled at myself!

I have two children and recently hit rock bottom with my mental health which is just making me eat and drink more.

I really want to kick my arse into gear but I’m too anxious to go to the gym or go out running.. I need to find at home workouts to start myself off 😫

Georgethecat1 · 31/07/2024 07:29

Can I join as the token tall person? I really need a kick up the bum to loose some weight and struggling massively. I’m super close to hitting 100kg (I was 78kg when I got married) 😭

Sorry to hear you are struggling - mental health and weight loss are a tricky combo (as I am only too aware!)
Can you start with something small? Set a goal for your steps in a day, 10k is the classic but set a realistic goal so less if you have to! You don't need to run, walking is good too ☺️ I have a Fitbit and if I haven't got my 10k at the end of the day I walk round the block a few times 😂
For me and achievable goal really helps, as I can feel positive about achievements rather than the negative of how much weight I still have to lose or whatever.
When I joined the gym I was so so anxious! I forced myself to go and I felt sick. Then I decided I was going to go every day (🙄) and just got cross with myself every time I didn't go! Such a negative cycle. Now my goal is 3 times a week and I have managed that every week since (apart from this week cos I am on holiday)
Small achievable goals are the way forward for me.
How old are your children? It's hard fitting in self care / exercise etc with kids!!

ComealongMartha · 31/07/2024 11:21

@ATribeCalledQuestion I live in Cornwall. The cheese is why I am like I am. It’s too good. Enjoy your holiday.

Oh I am loving my holiday! Cornwall is so beautiful 😍

thislittlebird · 31/07/2024 14:04

Hi everyone and welcome! Good to see so many of us in the same boat. I agree that when you’re short it just makes such a difference. It’s really hard to get the pounds off 😩

My first day calorie counting yesterday was going ok until the evening when no dinner was done and I started snacking. I did manage to have a low carb dinner though, so that was good. Had last night’s leftovers for lunch today and aiming for a low carb dinner again, just need to think what. Ideas welcome!

I did quite a lot of activity yesterday. Went for a 45 minute walk with the baby in a carrier and also did a 30 minute dumbbell workout with my YouTube channel of choice. Today has been less successful, baby has been fussy and the house is a mess but I have managed to put my workout clothes on 😩

Im a short, fat older person. Older than what? 65. 10 stone 5 lb.
It occurs to me , I can never take my eye off the ball again. Its so damn slow.
10 stone would be great.

Livedandlearned · 31/07/2024 19:00

I've got to the same point @eggplant16 I realise now that I need smaller portions and that is how it is.

I've been prepping a protein shake when I get hungry for dinner, then doing a workout and straight after that I blend the shake and drink it before I start making dinner, that's to stop me snacking.

My dc are grown up though so I don't have the pressures of making dinner for a whole family.

I've been adding cottage cheese to meals to boost my protein intake, as well as eating a lot more protein, it's stopped me reaching for the biscuits or crisps and even if I don't lose loads of weight, I actually feel so much better about myself.

brandonsunflowers · 31/07/2024 19:14

Can I join please? I'm 44, 5'1" and currently weigh 13st 2lbs. That's down from 13 and a half stone last week!

I'm calorie counting (currently on 1500) as well as doing low carb/high protein. I do use Huel products at the moment to help with quick meals. My evening meal is usually protein and vegetables/salad.

I WFH and sit down all day. My goal at the moment is to increase my exercise and hit 10k steps per day. I do a you tube video either before work or at lunch then have been going for a walk in the evening.

I really am starting from rock bottom. I've started doing those Leslie Sansom walk from home videos to build up to something more strenuous.

I split up with my ex last year and I really want to start dating again but also want to focus on myself for once and get my body where I want it to be.

yumyum33 · 31/07/2024 19:21

a round shorty here too, following with interest.
