Just that really. I used to be a on a short person weight loss thread and can't see a current one. I'm 5'1, 41 and 10st 5lb and need to get down to 9st. I had a baby in May and had got down to 9st 3lb before the pregnancy. So far I'm finding it quite hard to cut the calories down and need to work on that, and obviously need to fit exercise in around the baby but at least being on mat leave helps with that.

Well done on the gym trip! Not sure if it counts as positive @WhatASmashingBlouseYouHaveOn, but I guess it is because I did something. I did 30 minute dumbell workout and a 45 minute walk to try to get a 500 cal deficit. It’s been a struggle though, not sure I’ve managed the deficit goal for the day, I’ve snacked a lot, and I’m still hungry after my salmon and veg dinner :/

Well I'm back from holiday - I am not going to weigh myself as it'll just make me feel bad and I've had the best holiday so I want zero regrets!
I'm off for the whole school hols so getting back on track is gonna be tough - I've got lunch or dinner out four times in the next week! Healthy eating in between feels pointless 😂🤦‍♀️

I did walk about 60 miles in total over my holiday though so at least I was active 😂

thislittlebird · 03/08/2024 10:27

Eating out is a killer @ATribeCalledQuestion but I do enjoy it!

I bit the bullet bad took my measurements today. Has anyone else done it? This is where I’m at:

Waist 88cm
Hips/belly 99cm

Now I just need to start to reduce the numbers! I did find the weights really effective last year and I didn’t use heavy ones, just light and moderate.

Goal is to get the waist back to the healthy range of 80cm or less

@thislittlebird yes i took a note of my measurements in a few more places too, like mid thigh and around the bicep. So I have those to look at as well as the scales. My measurements are similar to yours.

Eating out is so calorific! I went to a chain restaurant the other week, literally every main meal was over 1000 calories! And there was a lot to choose from on the menu. The only main under that was a plain salad with no chicken or anything on it.

thislittlebird · 05/08/2024 12:37

@WhatASmashingBlouseYouHaveOn yeah I did that, bicep and upper thigh. I’ve definitely got fat to lose there! My thighs are noticeably bigger post baby weight gain.

It’s so boring having to get a salad! I’ve decided to just try to burn as many calories in a day as I can and try to increase my deficit so I can eat some stuff. Did a 250 calorie burn workout this morning for one hour and going for a walk in a bit.

If I could get those damn scales to say 10 stone, that will have to do for now.

thislittlebird · 09/08/2024 09:30

I’d love to see 10 stone @eggplant16

not sure if anyone else is still at it, but I’ve got to do a weigh and measure in tomorrow and I’m dreading it being the same weight. I’ve been doing a lot of activity because I haven’t done very well at getting my calories down to what I was managing to eat pre baby. I was usually fine on 1200-1400 but right now i seem to be on 1600-1900 and I’m just aiming to have a deficit since I’m eating a fair bit.

Hello! Please can I join you? I’ve been calorie counting with Nutracheck for the past week. I’m in my 30s and weigh 68.1kg at the moment. I decided I needed to take action after seeing my weight hit 70kg on the scales, which is the number that puts me into the obese category. I run three times a week 🏃‍♀️ and have a new shiny gym membership - aiming to do one class a week too. I’m training for my first half marathon and once that’s over I’m going to shift my focus towards strength training over the autumn. 💪🏼 Daily steps average out at around 11k.

Since having my first child I’ve been a little overweight - usually hovering around 63.5kg - so my first goal is just to get back to that point. I’ve felt OK at that weight.

But longer term I’m aiming to hit 58kg, which puts me back at a healthy BMI. So 10.1kg to go. I’ll reassess my goals once I reach 58kg but I don’t think I’ve ever been lighter than 55kg as an adult so that’ll probably do me.

I haven’t got any goals in terms of timing but my app says I should be 61kg by the end of March (I’ve set it to only lose 0.5lb a week as everything more aggressive left me eating only 1,200 calories which is too little for me right now, given this is quite a big lifestyle change. I’m on about 1,550 on the days I don’t exercise.)

Needanewname42 · 09/08/2024 17:31

@thislittlebird
I've been on holiday this week, walked loads and ate loads. I'll get reacquainted with the scales Sunday and Monday for the diet.

I'm in Italy and I feel like a fat cow. But I've also concluded the heat means people don't want to eat in middle of the day.

AllTheNaps · 10/08/2024 06:00

@Needanewname42 I'm sure you'll find that the walking has helped and you'll probably be ok with what the scales say

Maintain here this week but the scales say a BMI and body fat decrease so I'm happy with that. A week of child illness hasn't made for the best food choices and I've struggled to find time to exercise

Magnolia82 · 10/08/2024 06:58

Just checking in again to say it's really lovely to have this thread.

I'm struggling to lose any weight but am at a 'heathy' weight so it's going to be slow.

I was on a similar thread last year and someone recommended April Whitney on YouTube. Has anyone else watched any of her videos? She 'specialises' in short/petite women. As with everything online, it's hard to know how much is helpful/unhelpful? But she does seem quite balanced (no crazy, fad diets!).

ragingruby · 10/08/2024 07:01

Am on holiday at the moment but have kept up my daily 10k steps ?with 1 day at 18k). Also hired bikes and cycled 28 miles one day. Eating and drinking lots though as well

thislittlebird · 10/08/2024 08:21

@caitlinsjoy welcome aboard! 58kg would be nice for me too long term

@Needanewname42 ooh nice food though, we’re going in late September for a few days so I’ll be eating all the food then. The walking will have helped a bit.

@ragingrubywow that’s a lot of cycling! I’ve been trying to do lots of walking and have got to 10k + a good few days this week but I really, really wish my pregnancy induced plantar fasciitis would bugger off. It’s not much fun.

Ok I did my weigh in! I’m 10st 3 so 1lb down and I will take it since I’ve been quite active (dumbell workouts and walking) but not cut my calories especially low or watched what I’ve eaten beyond trying to cut some carbs out once a day. Fitbit is saying I’ve had 1,593 calories on average this week, which sounds about right. Also lost a centimetre from my waist, hips, upper thigh (possibly 2 there, only measured it quickly) so I’m now at 98cm hips and 87cm waist. It’s nice to see the numbers come down a bit!

Meanwhile, my husband has done precisely no exercise (beyond walking to and from the station as usual) and he’s lost 3lb 🤪. Oh to have his metabolism lol

Thats encouraging. It finally occurs to me ( and I do mean finally) that there is no going back to face stuffing.
Its not particularly scientific but I am eating a lot less cake and biscuits. I'd say over a 6 week period, maybe 3 slices of cake, 10 biscuits. Just don't buy the stuff.Don't even buy jam as that ends up on slices of toast.
It'll take me ages to get to my 10 stone and then months to try to get to 9 an da half. By Christmas? Possibly?

Good Luck fellow Shorties.

I am about 5 2" so the bulk really shows. Good Luck

Needanewname42 · 10/08/2024 08:45

@thislittlebird
What sort of tape measure are you using?
I was looking at some on amazon, that are designed for body measuring rather than the fabric dress making type, I'm never sure how tight to pull normal tapes.

BlackBean2023 · 10/08/2024 08:49

Joining you please! I'm 5'2" and 10st3 - it's all in my middle/arms Angry currently wearing a size 12 that's too tight.

Have been walking 10k steps a day but doesn't seem to be shifting it so am now looking to combine moving with calorie counting - so hard when the kids are off school!

Goal weight is 9st2 - that's a comfortable size 10 for me. Aiming for end of September and to keep it off until at least Xmas...

thislittlebird · 10/08/2024 09:12

@eggplant16 snacks are a problem for me and also look very bulky at 5’1. Had a group photo taken last week and I looked massive 😩

@Needanewname42 just a regular soft one, but it is a pain remembering how tight you pulled it before.

@BlackBean2023 welcome! I’m a very similar height and weight to you. Mine is mostly middle and arms too but my thighs definitely gained weight in pregnancy so need to shift that as well.

My unscientific thing has resulted in 5 lb loss in 6 weeks. It'll slow down now to the pace of a snail! Just made veggie soup and roast some chickpeas. Thinking Mediterranean minus the pastries!

crampyi · 10/08/2024 23:54

I’m about 5 days into MJ and weigh the same. I’m not sure how to feel about that. I definitely think I eat less than I have done in recent weeks, but I have had some alcohol this week (couple of nights out) which seems to have set me back. At least im not gaining weight I suppose

Midlifeshenanigans · 11/08/2024 20:53

Back from holiday and aiming to start 16:8 tomorrow. Weight after holiday is still around 11 2 - think lots if walking counteracted the extra food. What measurements are people taking? Is it worth doing thigh arms etc?

thislittlebird · 11/08/2024 22:32

@Midlifeshenanigans yeah I did those, it’s nice to see the difference imo. I think my thighs had lost the most cms.

Needanewname42 · 11/08/2024 23:45

I'm also back my holiday 12st 9.3
So 0.1 less than I was when I went away, lots of walking seems to have counteracted the cakes. But I've come back with a bug (nice), which might also have affected the scales. Hopefully I can send it packing soon.

Back on the case tomorrow.
