Just that really. I used to be a on a short person weight loss thread and can't see a current one. I'm 5'1, 41 and 10st 5lb and need to get down to 9st. I had a baby in May and had got down to 9st 3lb before the pregnancy. So far I'm finding it quite hard to cut the calories down and need to work on that, and obviously need to fit exercise in around the baby but at least being on mat leave helps with that.

@thislittlebird Sounds like a good plan! :)

SpecduckularlyQuackers · 07/10/2024 17:33

I'm ill and the baby is starting to hit the four month sleep regression so in a spectacular act of self sabotage I have eaten my own body weight in biscuits ☹️ sigh...

Swearwolf · 08/10/2024 06:59

That's an understandable setback @SpecduckularlyQuackers, count it as a one-off and start afresh today. One day won't make a lot of difference overall. Sleep regression is really tough. Maybe stock up on something else you can snack on that won't make you feel guilty? I've got really into yogurt-coated craisins lately.

I'm going in the right direction again, only 0.1kg down but it's a long game. I just got my period which usually makes me a little lighter, then I get immediately heavier afterwards, so I'm bracing myself for that. The more I can stick to good habits the less that will matter. I upped my running over the last couple of weeks, this week I've cut one run to go back to yoga today. I'm not seeing much weight loss but my body is feeling less... blobby. I'll take that!

AllTheNaps · 08/10/2024 09:58

It's definitely more about how you feel @Swearwolf 👏

Off to Aldi later in search of non dairy snacks. I haven't had chocolate in 5 days 🙈

Is anyone taking measurements too? I keep meaning to. I feel for me this is a much better indication than weight

If it helps, you’re not alone. It was my anniversary and my husband got me nice chocolates which were consumed way too fast and then today there’s been biscuits and a brownie while I’ve spent all day fighting with this baby to nap. My jeans are now tight and I’m fairly sure I weigh more now than when I had just had the baby and was breastfeeding for a while. Doesn’t feel like I can get a grip on the eating and the snacks.

Oh and I got a surprise period 2 weeks after the last one which is not helping with any of this lol

Went to my brother's this weekend and used their scales (we don't have a set as I'd be on them every day!) Turns out I've lost 2kg in the past two week. Gone from 61kg to 59kg. Pretty happy with that :)

thislittlebird · 20/10/2024 22:38

Well done! Meanwhile over here it’s a horror show, I seem to have lost all willpower 😩

I would like to lose some weight by Christmas and now my baby is sleeping better again hopefully I can get on the bandwagon. I’m still scared to weigh myself honestly.

I'm finally 13.7

SpecduckularlyQuackers · 21/10/2024 08:15

@TheBirdintheCave and @Accbabymom1994 well done!

@thislittlebird happy to hear your baby is sleeping better! Mine is 17 weeks and sleep has totally gone to pot 🙃 20 minute naps, waking every couple of hours at night, and so grouchy in the day (him and me 😂). Finding the energy, time or willpower to eat well is very hard right now.

I'm going to try to draw a line under the last couple of weeks. Amazingly I've lost another lb - doesn't sound impressive but if you saw what I've been eating... 😳 Baby seems to have the opposite issue and isn't gaining weight quite as fast as the HV would like so I still need to be careful about enough calories for breastfeeding. My plan is to aim for healthy but not necessarily lower calorie for now.

Mini celebration as my BMI is now just overweight, rather than obese 🙈

CbeeGeeBee · 21/10/2024 08:46

@SpecduckularlyQuackers i found breastfeeding the best thing ever for weight loss - particularly if you keep going after 6 months. (It becomes easier I promise - feeding an older baby doesn’t compare to the horror of feeding a newbie). I’m 5ft 3 and was a tiny-weeny 8 stone after 1 year of feeding and long pram walks. I’m now heavier (although a healthy bmi) but I swear long term feeding changes your metabolism.

SpecduckularlyQuackers · 21/10/2024 09:37

I think it varies from person to person - I fed my first for nearly 2.5 years and don't feel like it benefited me in terms of weight loss, though of course there were other benefits for both of us! Last time I only lost weight when I had to significantly restrict my diet due to my baby having intolerances. I also know some women say their bodies clung on to weight until they stopped feeding 🤷🏼‍♀️ so I reckon the effects on metabolism are potentially quite complicated. I'm not knocking breastfeeding at all but it's not a weight loss panacea for everyone.

My other issue is that I'm still suffering from SPD (one of several pregnancy complications that contributed to me gaining loads more this time round compared with my first), meaning that long walks and suchlike are rather out of the question at the moment. I'm on the waiting list for physio, but it's a long list... So any weight loss really has to come from diet, but my baby is weirdly uninterested in feeding by any means (breast/bottle/cup), so I do have to balance with the risk of affecting my supply, for his sake.

I'm not complaining (well, only a bit 😂) - it's a privilege to have my baby and to be able to breastfeed him. I just have to accept at the moment that it places certain restrictions on me, including my approach to weight loss.

thislittlebird · 21/10/2024 10:10

Complaining is fine! I definitely lost weight (including my stubborn face fat) when breast feeding, but it wasn’t really much fun breastfeeding because she has a tongue tie and I have previous lump removal issues that impacted supply so it was a lot of stressful pumping and not much time with the baby. So here I am fatter than when I had her in May, I really do wish the face fat would fuck off again though, that was a development of high dose prednisolone in 2021, never had it previously and hoping it’ll go in time. I think I need to commit to losing two stone 😩

@SpecduckularlyQuackers ugh, the rough sleep is not great. My baby was a great sleeper from 5 weeks to 4 months and then it all went wrong, got about 2 hours last night because I’m so anxious sleeping next to her in case I wake her. I’ve gained 5lb and I now weigh 10st 6.8, I’d got down to 10st 1.8 in early September so that sucks.

I should add mine:
SW 10st 5lb
CW 10st 6lb
GW 8st 7lb but 9st would also be amazing tbh

@thislittlebird small babies definitely make life hard, it's a good job they're so cute, right? 😅

AlisonMiranda · 21/10/2024 19:05

No real weight loss for me. I will weigh properly tomorrow.
@SpecduckularlyQuackers I think your plan of eating healthy but not restricting calories too much is perfect for breastfeeding. It take a lot out of you so eating quick things like good quality yogurt or eggs or oatcakes and hummus gives you vitamins you need and a bit of protein.

thislittlebird · 21/10/2024 19:49

@SpecduckularlyQuackers mine’s just screamed all day so I’m very glad she’s cute 😩

On the plus side, I’ve managed 1200kcal today which feels like a small win. Weighing myself was some motivation to get going on the diet changes.

TheBirdintheCave · 22/10/2024 13:42

@thislittlebird Good work! :D Sorry your little one has been crying lots though :(

I've just come back from box fit and baby massage. Marcie is working on her sitting and managed to topple and bump her head before i could catch her (fortunately there was a duvet in between her and the floor so there was some cushioning) I felt like such a bad mum ☹️

thislittlebird · 22/10/2024 17:08

@TheBirdintheCave oh we did exactly that today. I put her on her mat for sitting practice and she immmediately fell to the side and missed the mat, hit the hard floor and screamed the house down. You’re not alone! She did it again later on but had a soft baby gym and mat between her and the floor and this time was unbothered.

I’ve been so hungry today 😩, more than yesterday. Starting eating later in the day seems to help. I filled my fridge with lidl protein shakes and yogurt, they’re quite good value.

OP posts:
thislittlebird · 23/10/2024 21:36

Ok I’ve done 1200kcal for 3 days now and, other than a weirdly hungry Tuesday, it’s not too bad. The scales already say a bit less so hoping for a loss come the weekend.

Have also done about 10k steps per day with the pram but not got back to actual workouts yet

@thislittlebird Brilliant! :)

thislittlebird · 27/10/2024 16:29

Weighed myself yesterday morning and I’m 10st 2lb!

I think my 10st 6 earlier this week was wrong as it was evening so the next morning I weighed and was 10st 4lb so I’m taking this week as a 2lb loss. Not bad for the first re

Neversaygoodbye · 27/10/2024 16:41

I'm still trying although possibly not being g as strict as I could be because it's just miserable. I have lost but it's working out at about 1/2lb a week but it's better than nothing.

thislittlebird · 02/11/2024 10:54

@Neversaygoodbye it’s definitely better than nothing!

Today I’m 10st 1lb, I was just about 10st 0 yesterday but had a calorific Friday so was expecting it to creep up today. Have had 1400/1500 calories most days this week but next week I’ll aim to get it down again. Would be nice to get under 10 by next weeknd.

SpecduckularlyQuackers · 03/11/2024 08:58

Hi everyone 🙂 hope you're all having nice weekends! @thislittlebird great effort and great losses. How's your baby sleeping now?

@Neversaygoodbye I'm aiming to lose half a pound or a pound a week. I know some of the studies on VLCD suggest a quick, rapid weight loss might be good for some people but I know it's not achievable for me at the moment so slow and steady it is!

We're deep in the 4 month sleep regression and my older DC isn't sleeping well either so I can't lie, lots of buttered toast may have been consumed. Despite this I've managed to lose another 2 lb since I last weighed, so onwards and downwards! I've got my first physio appointment coming up so I'm looking forward to starting to tackle the various issues that pregnancy has left me with and eventually get back to more physical activity in time.
