Just that really. I used to be a on a short person weight loss thread and can't see a current one. I'm 5'1, 41 and 10st 5lb and need to get down to 9st. I had a baby in May and had got down to 9st 3lb before the pregnancy. So far I'm finding it quite hard to cut the calories down and need to work on that, and obviously need to fit exercise in around the baby but at least being on mat leave helps with that.

Seriously, why is it harder if youre short? Older, short, mother, Celt. Its all stacking up.

Midlifeshenanigans · 31/07/2024 21:11

Can I join? Mid fifties, 5 1 and 11”2 . Would love to be 9 stone but would settle for 9 7. Finding it increasing hard to lose weight which means I give up on my healthy eating plans after a couple of days. Away until 10 August but then aim to start 16:8 and reduce UPF. No regular exercise but aim to up my walking once it cools down a bit

Firsttimebabymummy · 31/07/2024 21:20

Can I join too please? Nearly 30 and 5ft. I gained 4 stone during pregnancy, lost 1 stone at birth but nothing since. I'm 3 months PP now. Always been 8-8st02 and now I'm 11.04. Would like to get to 9 stone. I'm finding it hard to lose weight as I've always been super active and never restricted food. I'm starting to walk more but it's hard to get motivated.

AllTheNaps · 31/07/2024 22:31

Can I join? I was on the short person thread before after I had DC2 2 years ago. Similar to you @thislittlebird I had a baby in May (my last baby!)

I'm 33, 5ft nothing and currently 9st 5lb (59.5kg) carrying excess weight around my tummy and arms. I'm more invested in trying to lower my body fat, I have some smart scales to track if they're accurate and just want to feel comfortable in my clothes.

Managed to get back to pre pregnancy weight the other 2 times within a year but it was a real slog, being small isn't forgiving for carrying extra weight. Currently just trying to snack less and make better food choices before I start calorie counting as BFing and being on maternity leave is my best chance at loosing the weight I think 😊

Needanewname42 · 01/08/2024 00:35

Can I join I'm 5ft 2 (& a bit)?
Currently 12st 8.5 at my heaviest I've broken 13st and yo-yo'd.

Since start of July I've been trying to make better choices and stop eating junk.
TBH my actual meals are fairly healthy, my issue is lack of exercise and grazing on junk.

Long term I want to be 9st 7
Current goal under 12st 7

motherdaughter · 01/08/2024 06:36

Following mfp, im realizing just how carb heavy and protein light my diet is. I'm veggie, peri, and really struggling to get enough protein. Im really reliant on protein powder to get close to what mfp thinks I need. Anyone got any good high protein low cal recipes they'd like to share?

Also. I went to the gym last night. 30 mins body pump. Only worth 184 cals. I was gutted!

Going out to the pub tonight and eating street food for tea... Think I might undo everything I've achieved this week in 4hrs ..

Goldenmemories · 01/08/2024 06:54

@motherdaughter body pump burns fewer calories than say, running, but if you go regularly and build muscle, you'll raise your basal metabolic rate and burn more calories even when sleeping.
I'm 5ft1in, 7st12lb and have good muscle tone from weight training 3 times a week. I also do 20-30k steps a day. I'm on medication that gives me a raging appetite so the exercise is essential!

Building muscle really is the way forward. If you can be consistent for a few months it's brilliant when the fat finally melts away and you can see and feel muscle underneath. It's a slower process than crash dieting but worth it.

I've had a few snacky days recently so am off to the gym this morning, can't do fasting so it's an exercise based calorie deficit for me 😄

brandonsunflowers · 01/08/2024 07:29

@motherdaughter I wouldn't worry too much about how many calories it burns and focus instead on the fact that you enjoy it and can keep going with it. Other exercise may burn more calories, but what's the point if you hate it so never want to do it?! I've spent too many years forcing myself to do things I don't enjoy and can't maintain as a result.

For protein meals, I tend to eat eggs for breakfast, then meat or fish with salad or veg for lunch and dinner. Protein yogurts are a good way of getting more if you don't eat meat. I do use huel at the moment and it's obviously high protein. Personally, I find it easier to stick to my calories when I do high protein/low card because I'm not as hungry.

Goldenmemories · 01/08/2024 08:10

If you have protein powder knocking about, stir one scoop into a bowl of natural yoghurt and add berries for a protein rich breakfast. It has the consistency of cake batter and feels like a treat 😋

thislittlebird · 01/08/2024 08:24

@Firsttimebabymummy I’m also finding the motivation hard!

@AllTheNaps mine is probably the first and last lol. I’m hoping to utilise mat leave too. I stopped expressing/breastfeeding at 8 weeks and I gained 5lbs instantly 😩

In case anyone is looking for YouTube content, I subscribe to these guys:

They have a good range of videos (beginners, standing only, HIIT etc) and they don’t chat in the middle, which I’m a fan of. I had good success with dumbbell workouts last year, so will focus on that again, and walking with the baby.

Breakfast for me today is overnight oats, fruit and yogurt, then I’m out with work for lunch which won’t be diet approved, and then maybe salmon and stir fried vegetables tonight.

id like to join this! I’m also small and trying to lose around 20kg which is around 50lbs/3 stone. I’m currently “obese” - I weigh 73kg at my heaviest and 48kg at my lightest.

does anyone intermittently fast?

I have done so twice this week (20:4) and already feel better. I don’t know what it is, it’s like a switch flipped in my head, and I’m no longer hungry/snacking etc. So far I have lost 2 kg.

I might just keep going and try the monk fast (36 hour fast). I haven’t eaten since 11am yesterday, but don’t feel hungry yet. I have drunk plenty of water and feel fine. I had a really long sleep from 7pm to 7am which obviously made it easier. So therefore I just need to keep going until 11pm today.

I am thinking about trying the weight loss injections, though if fasting works for me I might not need them

Magnolia82 · 01/08/2024 09:42

Can I join? I'm 5ft2 and need to lose around 7-10 pounds. I'm officially a healthy BMI but definitely look like I need to lose these pounds. Every extra pound is on my belly! (Happy with my legs & arms, but hate that I genuinely look pregnant.) It's hard being short, isn't it?!

Edited

@Goldenmemories I've recently started strength training, having never touched a weight before! I can only do home workouts and my weights aren't currently very heavy. Do you think this will help?!

How long did it take for you to start to notice a difference?

Can I ask, approx how many calories do you eat a day?!

ComealongMartha · 01/08/2024 09:51

@crampyi me! I’m loving how easy it is. Once I start eating I can’t stop so I’m just not starting! Having an eating window is definitely helping.

I’m 5.5lb down in three weeks. I started with 16:8, then 20:4 and now OMAD 😂 not sure that I can do 36 hours, that’s hardcore! I’m making healthier choices when I do eat and I can see that a lot of my hunger is actually boredom!

Sorry to hear you are struggling - mental health and weight loss are a tricky combo (as I am only too aware!)
Can you start with something small? Set a goal for your steps in a day, 10k is the classic but set a realistic goal so less if you have to! You don't need to run, walking is good too ☺️ I have a Fitbit and if I haven't got my 10k at the end of the day I walk round the block a few times 😂
For me and achievable goal really helps, as I can feel positive about achievements rather than the negative of how much weight I still have to lose or whatever.
When I joined the gym I was so so anxious! I forced myself to go and I felt sick. Then I decided I was going to go every day (🙄) and just got cross with myself every time I didn't go! Such a negative cycle. Now my goal is 3 times a week and I have managed that every week since (apart from this week cos I am on holiday)
Small achievable goals are the way forward for me.
How old are your children? It's hard fitting in self care / exercise etc with kids!!

Thank you!
I ended up taking my Fitbit off as it was awful seeing how little steps I did a day. I have a full time work from home job so I’m literally sat at home day in day out. The only thing I have on my side is my house is 3 stories so I have to do 2 sets of stairs every day 😂 I try to make myself run up and down them a few times just to feel like I’m doing something!

My children are 2 and 4, school starts this year so I’m looking forward to reduced childcare costs at least! Maybe then I can afford a gym membership and force myself to go too 😅

Yes same! I was just eating for the sake of it, I’d always have an evening meal even if I wasn’t hungry for example and any snacks, I’d have to mostly finish them in one go. Working from home doesn’t help, I’m just grazing and getting little exercise.

Today I’m working and then getting my nails done, will go and do the weekly shop after, so I think I can last until 11pm okay for the monk fast!

I reckon if you don't gain and aren't stuffing your face, thats a major win.

eggplant16 · 01/08/2024 13:47

Do people think intermitent fasting is just " not eating and keeping busy" really?

WhatASmashingBlouseYouHaveOn · 01/08/2024 15:20

I'll join ladies 😀

5ft 3, 43 years old, 11st 3.

I used to be the slim one with the figure to be envied, now I look dumpy. I look worse in photos than I think I do in the mirror! How does that work? 😳

On the positive side I have won a 3 month gym membership so going tomorrow to get started.

Have done loads of weights workouts at home but I find that A. There's not really enough room B. My partner always distracts me, manages to find other things we should be doing. It's so annoying so hoping at the gym I can regain that focus.

I am WFH so I have the same problem as many people of not moving enough. But I have just bought a standing desk.

So far, so good, I can adjust it up and down as I feel like, can also do a few squats or calf raises while I'm standing up and waiting for documents to open.

Goldenmemories · 01/08/2024 15:53

@Magnolia82 I don't track my calories at all, I do intuitive eating aiming for high protein high fibre and low sugar. Often I fail at low sugar 🤣 I am teetotal though.

Basically I eat 3 meals a day plus snacks but stop before I get full. I have a very active job ( teacher, always on my feet) and need fuel to keep going- I'd rather eat regularly and not deprive myself and have a high calorie burn through lots of exercise because it's very good for my mental health and sleep to exercise a lot.

If I get a bit lazy and start eating too much chocolate I pile on the pounds alarmingly quickly so that's a good incentive to stick to good habits most of the time.

Re: weight lifting, getting the form right is essential before you lift heavy. Heavy is subjective anyway, it means you can't lift another rep. In body pump classes my warmup weight is 2.5kg each side of the bar, squats 7.5kg each side, chest 3.75kg each side, back 5kg, triceps and biceps 2.5kg. When I life free weights in the gym I go heavier but do fewer reps. I can run 18km without stopping but run slow.

My friend fasts regularly and it works for her- everyone has their limits to what they can tolerate 😄

AllTheNaps · 01/08/2024 21:02

@thislittlebird that's interesting on the weight gain, my DD is 9 weeks and BFing is yet to aid in me loosing weight 😂

@WhatASmashingBlouseYouHaveOn yes I feel the same. Ok in the mirror, horrendous in photos - weird!

Today wasn't a bad day food wise and resisted buying anything bad when I nipped to the shops. I'm very much an emotional eater and very much stress related. If one of the kids is particularly being challenging, I can guarantee a bad food day

frostyfeb1 · 01/08/2024 21:08

Can I join too please. I'm 5ft and weigh 10 st 12 the heaviest I've ever been. I had my DC4 in March (although DC1 passed away the day she was born so I have 3 DC at home) and I'm finding it really had to lose the baby weight this time. I've had 4 csections in 7 years and don't even recognise myself anymore. I feel uncomfortable and none of my clothes fit. I'm finding it tricky to get motivated and with 3dc at home it's hard to make time for exercise but I've charged my Apple Watch ans it has a 400 active kcal goal so I'm going to try and meet that each day one way or another. I'm also going to start counting calories I've joined Nutracheck's and they've given me 1560 I'm hoping to keep it to 1400 if I can. We've a holiday booked for 10 weeks time and I'd love to lose 12lbs and be 10st by then which is just a little over 1lb a week. Really interesting to read about the fasting too. I'm going to look into 16:8.

frostyfeb1 · 01/08/2024 21:10

@AllTheNaps haha that's exactly me - I can nearly guarantee if I've had a rough day with DC it's a million times harder to resist and that's when my will power really fails lol

thislittlebird · 01/08/2024 22:03

I also have this mirror vs photos issue. went out with work for lunch today and omg, the photos they took are horrendous. I look the size of an American fridge. Admittedly, I am at the front of the group near the camera lens but it was truly horrendous. Wide of body, pulling weird faces, and I was the only one with my eyes closed. I really cannot can't stand it, I think of myself as a small person but I look like a massive person in such photos.

First time at the gym for me today. Saw one of the 21 year old gym bros from work there, way to make me feel old and fat 😂 in all seriousness was OK but bit overwhelmed by all the different machines there. I'm sure it will come easier with more time. Back again tomorrow too.

Anyone else have any positive progress? 😊
