newme4lanzarote23 · 29/08/2022 07:54

I am 5"3 and weighed in yesterday at 15st 8.5! Heaviest I have been in a very long time 😭 feeling unfit and unattractive. I have so much going on and know that I am sabotaging myself and comfort eating due to tiredness but can't let anymore weight creep on. I am going on holiday next summer and Therefore am going to make that my goal. To be feeling healthier and more confident for next Aug. Going to return to MFP and back to tracking what I eat. Feel free to join me x

Hi OP. Need to join you. I've joined in to previous posts like this and never followed through, but I really do need to do something as my weight is now affecting my health. I'm 5ft7 and have avoided the scales for a long, long time. I've just faced my fear and I'm 16st10oz which is also the heaviest I've ever been in my life. I'm in my 50s and post menopausal, so losing weight is hard, but I can't move so well and often have pain in my knees and hips. Also, hardly any of my clothes fit and I refuse to buy yet another size larger. I really want to get some weight off for the winter so that I can fit into my jeans and jumpers again (because I damned well won't be able to afford to put the heating on!)

Every day I say I need to start dieting and exercising, and every day I don't do it because moving hurts and I just enjoy eating. I'm not even hungry half the time. Today seems like a good day to start a new way of life, so yes, I'll join you.

What's MFP?

Holidaylover20 · 29/08/2022 08:33

Me! I'm starting back tomorrow. I'm 5ft9 and a couple of weeks ago was 15 stone 2 lbs. Would love to get down to 10 stone. School holidays are so much harder! Days out which usually end up eating bad food and a lot less walking than when I'm doing the school runs.

newme4lanzarote23 · 29/08/2022 08:46

Hi both, thanks for joining me. It's so hard isn't it? I have also gone completely off the rails over the summer holidays. Two young kids and lots of ice cream.

My life is extremely busy as I am working full time and studying/training in the evenings as well as bringing up two boys. However, need to stop using food as a crutch and making excuses. Feel absolutely rubbish. My "fat" clothes are now getting too tight so need to make changes!

Hopefully we can all support each other. I am going to try taking it a bit slower rather than going too extreme and falling off the wagon.

Me! I’m nearly 15stone. Going back to calorie counting as I had the best success with that.

Welcome @Littlegoth thanks for joining me 😊

I think I'll try to take it slower too because if I deprive myself too much I give up faster.

Wishihadanalgorithm · 29/08/2022 10:04

Please count me in. Not sure what I weigh, possibly about 15 stone - it feels awful writing that. I am in peri and finding it so difficult to shift even a pound where once ti would have dropped off me.

A support/accountability group is what I need. Will be starting Wednesday.

Wishihadanalgorithm · 29/08/2022 10:07

I don’t do MFP, I do use Nutri check though.

CheshGirl · 29/08/2022 10:16

Find out your TDEE

Total Daily Energy Expenditure

Basically how many calls you burn by just existing.

tdeecalculator.net

You then need to cut cals to make you in a deficit.

Do this but cutting cals, not through exercising, exercising should take off further cals on top!

I'm 5'2 and weighed 140lbs last year, now weigh 110

Mammyloveswine · 29/08/2022 10:29

I have a good 3.5 stone to lose! Lost 9 pounds so far but im all in!

Same here with the ice cream over the summer! Along with many other treats. I was doing well before the holidays as well.

I also have two boys, aged 7 and 4 😀

Yes. I’m almost exactly the same except I’m a bit shorter and not going on holiday next year 😀
I just had to go out and buy more baggy clothes at the weekend, I’m uncomfortable and I need to get back on track now.
Finding time to exercise is a big problem.
I lost a lot of weight a number of years ago, was very happy with myself (even though still technically a bit overweight), lost even more when I was pregnant because of eating well/ no alcohol etc but started piling on weight when dd was about 6mo. Now she’s nearly 3 and I’m horrified at how I’ve let things go😔

Fatasbuggery · 29/08/2022 11:16

Me please , I am 15.8 and 5ft 5 and grumpy !
I have downloaded mfp and am starting now . I have been on so many of these threads but something does feel different ......
I work in a secondary school and worked out that in the 5 yrs I have worked there I have put on at least half a stone a Yr. I think the whole stress of the job (I work in pastoral) and the "Bit I'm on my holidays" attitude has ruined me.

I love food , I love booze and not too keen on exercise so need all the help I can get.

I am away next weekend , last hurrah before work. So I was going to wait until after that but I just need to make a start now.

Good luck all!!

I have 2 stinky teen boys getting backfrom Reading today so need to cook something healthy anyway today. I doubt they have seen a vegetable since Wednesday 😁

LeanQuizzine · 29/08/2022 11:53

Me. 5ft 6 and about 15st 7 or thereabouts. Knees, hips and ankles ache more often than not. Get out of breath walking up stairs.

I've already made a start and lost a few pounds. Long gone are the days when I could lose weight quickly. It's going to take me a while. I've done every diet under the sun, lost weight and out it back on countless times. Fed up with that.

Whole foods 80% of the time, smaller portions and trying to address emotional eating is my approach this time. 10 mins yoga or body weight exercise 5x a week to start and some walking.

Would love to lose 5 stone but at the moment anything that comes off and stays off is a positive.

ShoopShoop · 29/08/2022 12:05

Please may I join?

I've just turned 40 and weigh 94kg which at 164cm tall makes me positively huge.

I'm so uncomfortable and self conscious - my weight is affecting everything I do, and occupies my thoughts the whole time.

I really want to spend this next year making positive changes and being a better role model for my 11 year old daughter.

I work full time too and life is hectic! Just shelled out for a PT twice a week (ouch) and will take the pooch 🐶 for longer walks.

Need to cut down on the alcohol which I really use to self medicate and sleep at night (more like pass out!) and tackle my carb addiction.

Looking forward to being part of a supportive group - definitely in it for the long haul!

Would love to be 63kg this time next year

Getoffmygrass · 29/08/2022 12:31

Me please. I’m fairly sure I’m close to 16 stone. Working full time and then having two children with high level special needs has eaten into the rest of my time and done for my mental health. But I need to be healthier.

newme4lanzarote23 · 29/08/2022 13:06

Wow, brilliant to have so many people along for the ride. So much of this sounds so familiar. Really hope we can meet our goals together. Like so many my weight has gone up and down over the years. Really need to get back motivated. Had to buy size 18 jeans today which I had vowed never to go back into 😪 welcome everyone and good luck xx

OP posts:
Fatasbuggery · 29/08/2022 17:09

@newme4lanzarote23 You talking about size 18s has reminded me of something that might be a bit controversial. But I really believe that because I can still (mostly) fit into a 16 that my brain thinks I am OK even though my mirror tells me different.
Body positivity can be a great thing but I think I bought the "average woman is a size 16" hook line and sinker.

If that is true then why do I look so much bigger than 90% of my friendship group.

newme4lanzarote23 · 29/08/2022 17:14

@Fatasbuggery yes, have to admit somehow 16 seems okay but as soon as I'm into 18s I feel awful 🤔🤣 must be a psychological thing. In truth though I feel most healthy and confident in a size 12 so really size 16 is not great for me either. Hey ho, one step at a time xx

OP posts:
Fatasbuggery · 29/08/2022 18:07

I actually feel shite at a 16 but being told that size is average has lulled me into thinking its OK.

Realistically I know I am happy at a 12 to 14 and no bigger .

Anyway , today has been a good day and I have made a roast for the festival returned teens and am about to tuck into that. Also did a food shop in Aldi and saved myself some money so a good day all round.

I hope everyone has had a good day.

newme4lanzarote23 · 29/08/2022 18:15

@Fatasbuggery sound great, I had a roast today too 😋 first one in ages. Bet that was a lovely welcome back from a festival for them x

Count me in. I am 5ft6 and weighed 17st 13lb this morning. It's the heaviest I've ever been.
I am also using MFP and focusing on 1/2 stone loss goals at a time otherwise it just feels overwhelming.

That's a good idea @RadFad . Smaller goals give you something to celebrate and I think it boosts your morale. That was one thing I liked when I did SW, the certificates every half stone. The sense of achievement every time was great.

ive been good so far today. Had porridge for breakfast and an omelette for lunch and no snacking. Been out for a long walk with the dog too. Looking forward to a stir fry in a bit.

LadybirdsAreNeverHappy · 29/08/2022 19:01

I had what I normally have, which is not good, but I halved the portions which is something at least.
Tomorrow will try do better.

Fatasbuggery · 29/08/2022 19:42

@LadybirdsAreNeverHappy Halving the portions is a huge deficit. I would say that is definitely a win.
