2022 has GOT to be the year I get on track and stop yo-yoing! Who's with me

Started 2021 at 15st 1lb! Lost weight, put some on, lost some, put some back on. Weighed myself today and I'm 15st 2 again!!!! Back to square one! In 5"2 and now back up to a size 16. I feel unhealthy and unattractive but really struggle with the impulse to binge eat, especially when I am stressed or tired. Before having children I lost 8 stone, weighed 10 stone and wore a size 10 so I know I can do it. Just need to stay motivated. I am going to restart with my fitness Pal and try and walk 10000 everyday. Really don't want to be writing the same thing this time next year!

How old are your DC @Dumpydump? Mine (twins) are 6 now and I'm trying to involve them a lot more in keeping me/ us active - they love bike riding, swimming, walking in the woods etc which helps. If they were older (and more independent) I could do stuff on my own but really I've been gaining weight since they were around 1 and I had zero time/ energy to exercise!

I started 2021 full of motivation, did very well for a few months, then it (and me!) went pear shaped during the summer holidays when we were away for a couple of weeks - I'd also started a new job which meant I had far less time to exercise and cook healthy food. Which come to think of it I do need to plan again Confused

Good luck... I'm going to sign up to Walk 1000 miles if you fancy joining me!!

Dumpydump · 30/12/2021 23:24

Mine are a similar age - 5 and 7 and we do lots of the same things bike rides, woods etc. But have to admit that the rest of the time I have just got into awful habits of binge eating and watching too much TV! I think because everything is so full on with kids and work (plus I'm studying too) that as soon as I have "me time" I want to relax and don't want to spend my spare time exercising! However want to get out of that negative mindset and feel better and more confident. We have already pledged to all work home from school rather than drive on the days that I collect them. Will definitely have a look into the 1000 mile's challenge, thank you ☺️

Do have a look at the Walk 1000 Miles challenge @Dumpydump and also RED January (used to be running but now is about moving every day!). I do find it hard though to keep up the enthusiasm/ motivation when it's raining outside, the DC are whiny and I haven't got a minute to myself, let alone 20 to do a workout Sad I'm going to keep an eye on all the local child friendly gyms though, see if any of them have January offers - it'd be nice to have the option to take them swimming regularly or dump them at a kids club if possible

Do you have a DP/ DH to help out? Mine is very overweight and moans regularly about needing to lose weight, but when it comes down to it would far rather sit and watch TV than actually do anything to move more/ cook healthily Hmm which in turn doesn't help me either!

Dumpydump · 31/12/2021 19:17

Luckily I do have a husband who helps out with childcare. However, like yours he has zero interest in eating well or exercising. He works in a physical job and so can get away with eating whatever he wants.Really difficult when I'm trying my best to stay on track. He is currently on the sofa eating crisps!

Is 1200 calories on MFP and walking 10k steps a day realistic for you? It might 'work' in that you lose weight, but can you stick with it long term? I think you need to do something that might not give you quick results but that you can stick with forever.

Saying that, I'm doing a VLCD. It's easier for me just to not eat in the day and then have a healthy meal with family in the evening. I'm a similar height and weigh 14 stone currently. I'm jealous you're a 16, my size 18s (from vanity sized next!) are getting tight! I'm doing this to get the weight off, but have already come up with a sensible plan for maintenance (which is basically 5:2).

WitchDancer · 31/12/2021 19:26

Please may I join? I'm on a last chance effort to loose 5 stone before I blow every penny we've got on weight loss surgery, which I really don't want to do.

My downfall is snacking in the evening. That plus I'm not very mobile due to health issues.

I can do a little time on the treadmill so I'm planning on doing as much walking on it as possible every other day and cutting out the crisps and sweets.

Thanks for your reply. I am on more than 1200 calories but see your point. To be honest those aims are more starting point to get my mindset back on track. When I lost 8 stone prior to kids I did it through weight watchers. The reason that worked for me was because I was tracking everything and being mindful. As soon as I'm left to my own devices I slip into bad habits of eating massive portions and snacking. The 10000 steps again is a goal in order to get moving more. On a usual working day I do around 7000 so am hoping it will give me the incentive to go for a walk in the evening or walk the school run. Fingers crossed I can keep it up otherwise I may have to rethink things. In the long run I just want to live a healthier lifestyle rather than being on constant diets! Sounds like you have come up with a plan that suits you. Really hope it works out for you ☺️

Of course ☺️ sounds like a sensible plan. I'm sure you can do it and avoid surgery. Good luck 🍀 x

Thank you DumpyDump. One last night of chocolate to get rid of it coming up...

GU24Mum · 31/12/2021 21:24

I'm in. Like some of you, I can do a diet for a bit (though increasingly I struggle to get started) but once I'm back off it, it all goes haywire. It struck me today that most of my newer friends have never seen me at what I still like to think is my "normal" weight....

Lexie365 · 31/12/2021 21:37

Hi, can I join? I started my diet end of april this year and am now down 4 stone (well atleast I was b4 xmas day) I have been off plan since xmas eve and plan to start fresh tomorrow. I have another stone and a half to lose (along with whatever weight I have gained this past week) and really need to tone up, I have always struggled with my weight so really want this to be the time I keep it off! I felt so so much better this xmas than the last 5 years and really want to feel great this summer🤞🤞💖

Lexie365 · 31/12/2021 21:39

I'm actually quite worried about going back on plan as this Is the longest I have had off since starting and the longer I'm off plan the more I struggle to go back to it😭

Oo can I join in too? I have just checked my bmi and whilst I think it's a load of crap it's still shocked me how far up the scale I am!

I've been talking about and giving a half hearted attempt for years but from today I start fresh and ready to actually get somewhere. If not I've made a deal with dh I will bin every item of clothing I don't fit into anymore (almost a decade of storing clothes that are too small needs to stop Blush)

We've just been away for the days between Xmas and new year and my lack of self confidence meant I missed out on so much.( swimming/trampolining with the kids/ evening hot tub/ going down slides etc) I'd be so much more fun for the kids if I wasn't worried about the state I'd look wobbling about.

Sorry I've ranted but year 2022 is the year I make it happen!!

GU24Mum · 01/01/2022 09:24

Thanks @Dumpydump - I need to get it right this time! First step is to make sure
I don't tuck into too the sliced bread for breakfast as that's what starts me off wrongly most days.

Of course 😊 I could have written this post myself. I have a wardrobe full of clothes that have been in there since before I had ds1 (who is 8 this year!!) I keep ensuring my dh that I'm definitely going to slim back into them but hasn't happened yet! Last chance this year or they are being sold/binned. I'm so sorry that it has affected your confidence so much. Improving levels of self esteem and confidence is a big part of it for me too. Here's hoping for a confident and healthy future for us all xx

I also have a wardrobe of shame Blush loads of nice - ok, not so nice but perfectly acceptable - clothes and only a handful that I can actually wear. I don't want to buy more in a 'big' size as then I'll feel that I've accepted being this big forever but equally I don't seem to be able to fit in the next size down...

Completely understand what you said about 'missing out' @Forricks, I just feel invisible sometimes at school/ DC's parties as I have such low self confidence and don't like chatting to people. Logically I KNOW that they probably don't care at all what size I am but still...

Having said all this, DP finally got off his arse and took the DC out earlier, so I'm trying to tidy up/ do some planning/ not eat too many crisps whilst I enjoy my first freedom for days Grin

Can complete relate to the school gates/party situation 😔 I haven't managed to make any real "school mum" friends in my younger son's year group. Feel so insecure and out of the loop with them. Just shows how much being overweight can impact all areas of our lives 😢
OP posts:
ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 01/01/2022 18:30

Being overweight has definitely impacted my life @Dumpydump Sad I've always been quite shy but now suffer from bad social anxiety too, even with friends I'm worrying about when I can get home. Think it's partly to do with my weight, partly to do with the DC still being small and DP being useless with them! I just want to be able to wear nice jeans and a nice top again and feel reasonably ok...

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 01/01/2022 18:31

Currently having a look at the WW website to see if the plan would suit me as I have a friend who's lost several stone on it Shock although it's all changed recently and won't give you any details about what actually happens now!

Readytostartagain · 01/01/2022 20:08

Can I jump on please. Really identify with weight causing social anxiety @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl and @Dumpydump. Got about 2 stone to lose and want 2022 to be the year it happens

WitchDancer · 01/01/2022 20:13

I've got a cupboard full of clothes too, but they're not going anywhere. They're properly bagged into sizes and I can't wait to slim down into them. Plus I can't afford to replace them right now.

Today has been ok sort of. We're still working our way through Christmas snacks, which we bought in case we got locked down. I haven't gone overboard and stuffed down the usual plate full like I would have done in times past.

I've also been doing my crochet to keep my hands busy too.

How's everyone else got on today?
