Started 2021 at 15st 1lb! Lost weight, put some on, lost some, put some back on. Weighed myself today and I'm 15st 2 again!!!! Back to square one! In 5"2 and now back up to a size 16. I feel unhealthy and unattractive but really struggle with the impulse to binge eat, especially when I am stressed or tired. Before having children I lost 8 stone, weighed 10 stone and wore a size 10 so I know I can do it. Just need to stay motivated. I am going to restart with my fitness Pal and try and walk 10000 everyday. Really don't want to be writing the same thing this time next year!

Morning all. Smile
Hi roughtyping, and welcome. Smile
Hope everyone has had a good weekend so far? I got woken up by a 'phone call from my mum moaning about neighbours. We do really have shit neighbours but I'd literally just opened my eyes! I know it sounds awful but I am sick of dealing with her shit.
Sorry to derail the thread there! Blush I hoe you are all having a better Sunday. Smile

Courante · 11/04/2022 08:39

Morning Kitty - that's not a great way to start the day Sad...no wonder you're fed up of it. No, it doesn't sound dreadful - I'm imagining if your mum thinks it is ok to ring at a time when you might be asleep, for a non-emergency then...well let's just say I can relate and it is draining.

Hello @roughtyping! Have you decided to stick with SW?

My plan this morning is to clean the kitchen, including the fridge, and then go down the supermarket to stock up on lots of veg, fruit and salad. I may even do the veg for breakfast thing (got it from chef AJ on YT and it is surprisingly effective AND good), as it is the holidays and I can eat breakfast whenever I want. I'm not going to cc today. Just going to focus on having gaps between eating, adding in the good stuff and definitely no wine.

roughtyping · 11/04/2022 08:45

@Courante I've just downloaded Nutracheck and going to give that a go first before I spend more money. Going away with my sisters and kids tomorrow for a couple of nights so prob won't be great but will try!

I do love veg with breakfast.

73kittycat73 · 11/04/2022 11:28

Sorry that you know what it's like Courante, and yes, it's very draining.
Your eating plan sounds good. Smile Hope you enjoy your time off.
Good luck with, and In hope you enjoy, your days away roughtyping.
I weighed this morning. Put on 1lb. Sad I must have eaten more low cal chocolate bars than I thought.

Courante · 12/04/2022 09:07

Thanks Kitty Smile

I had vegetables for breakfast yesterday, a salad with dinner and more fruit. I'm not saying that's all I had (chocolate was there too - but when that's gone I'm not buying more) but I'm pleased I added it in and question why I let this slip when I enjoy it so much! I guess it is habit/laziness in terms of prep and shopping.

I was very conscious of being full yesterday but still wanting to eat and when I turn to food (or alcohol when that is on the cards) to fill some kind of emotional need. Today I'm going to bring back in eating times, not set just conscious e.g I'm going to wait until I am hungry for breakfast and then when I'm satisfied with that look at the clock and give myself an earliest time to eat next and then not even eat one grape before that. It forces me to look for more productive, kind, alternatives to eating.

Hope you're enjoying your time away roughtyping!

73kittycat73 · 12/04/2022 19:50

Hi Courante, veggies for breakfast?! That is some commitment. Grin Sounds like you are doing really well though.
It forces me to look for more productive, kind, alternatives to eating.
I should take on this advice too!
I'm currently doing a 12 week NHS course (Referred by my surgery.) and there is a module on their about emotional eating. If I pick up any tips when that module becomes available I'll let you know.

73kittycat73 · 12/04/2022 19:51

Sorry, should have said it's a weight management course.

Courante · 13/04/2022 09:24

Yes please to tips around emotional eating Kitty - thank you Flowers. How many weeks have you done so far?

Yeah - I know the veggies for breakfast thing sounds bizarre! I definitely don't want them when I get up first thing in the morning, or even a couple of hours in. Yesterday I had breakfast nearer to noon (which was the vegetables fairly closely followed by a more regular breakfast of porridge and berries). I've been up for two hours now and there is no way I want to eat vegetables, so I know it's not time to eat! Can't really do this whilst I'm at work though...maybe vegetable soup will work instead. I'm hoping I'll be able to get back into IF and then just eat at 3.30 pm and again at 8 pm ish (as a permanent pattern, not a temporary diet). Who knows! I'm going with the flow at the moment.

73kittycat73 · 13/04/2022 11:27

I'm on week 7 now. I understand about not wanting to eat veggies for breakfast! lol
I had a bit of a pig out last night. Blush I ate a load of yogurts and all my low cal chocolate bars (About 6-8) then found a brownie cake in the freezer left over from Christmas so ate half of that. Felt sick after though. lol
I'm going to weigh in on Monday then rejoin Myfitnesspal and see how many calories a day I need in order to lose 1lb a week. It'll take me to November to lose the weight I want that way, but surely it's got to be more sustainable? I was on 1200 a day, but after 9 weeks of it I'm slipping. Hopefully 1lb a week will be a lot easier. (The only reason my brothers Easter egg survived last night is because I couldn't get another one before Sunday! lol)

73kittycat73 · 14/04/2022 19:12

How's everyone doing? I've had a shocking few days. Easter eggs, brownies, cheesecake, chocolate...Yup, shocking. I'm giving myself till Sunday as I'm having a takeaway and cake for my nieces birthday on Saturday, the starting again on the Sunday. Will weigh in then to assess the damage. Hope you're all fairing better than I have been!

Courante · 15/04/2022 15:37

ummm...mixed bag from me.

I am definitely eating better but I feel like I've eaten loads already today. I need to go up a notch with it but I'm going to leave it until after the weekend.

So positives - no alcohol Sun-Thu (as per DH's plan - he didn't do as well but zero surprise on that one. He is going to try again next week...). I definitely need and want to keep this up (and more) under every day circumstances. Still having veggies for breakfast and generally more veg/salad/fruit and other healthier options.

Things to work on are that I am not having the gaps between eating when I do start - and still eating when I'm not hungry (even if it is healthy) but the fullness from the veg/fruit is helping curb that a bit and I've also decided to learn another piece on the Piano so that is keeping me occupied (sometimes frustratingly!). I'm still eating chocolate etc but less.

I haven't WI since last Saturday and I don't intend to - aim at the moment is to change some habits and stop gaining weight rather than weight loss (although that would be very welcome!).

Definitely come to the realisation (again) that I can't have the amount of junk food (chocolate, cake, crisps etc) in the house that we're used to. When I'm in the 'zone' and being strict and losing weight it doesn't bother me it being there but that's not most of the time...that's not when I do all the damage!

Good luck with your fresh start on Sunday Kitty!

73kittycat73 · 15/04/2022 19:20

Thank you. Smile Don't forget, even if you are eating a lot of fruit and veg it's a lot less calories than chocolate, cake, etc. I always eat when I'm not hungry. Blush
Well done on the no alcohol! Good luck to DH for next week. Also good going on the piano peace. Star I'm sure you'll do it.
I can't have the chocolate/cake/goodies in either. If they are there I eat them all in one go. New plan is to start on Sunday, no chocs/cake in etc, and allow myself 1 treat a week on a Saturday. Hopefully that will be enough to keep me going.
Good luck to you and me! Smile Lets hope we have a good week.

Courante · 16/04/2022 09:07

Thanks for your positive post Kitty! Smile
Yes - good week all round for us next week!
Have a lovely Easter Easter Smile

WitchDancer · 16/04/2022 09:21

Morning all! I'm away for a few days so hopefully will not be snacking (other than Easter eggs) and will be more mobile if my body decides to play ball.

I must say I've never heard of having veg for breakfast. Is it cooked or more like raw carrots or something?

Courante · 16/04/2022 11:04

Hi WitchDancer!

I pretty much do one of these two things:

  • In a wok dry fry/deglaze with water or veg stock: one red onion, tomatoes, mushrooms and other veg I have around like a courgette/spring greens - I often add soy sauce and/or dijon mushroom
  • Steam a tray of veg e.g. carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, peas, sweetcorn - anything, often from frozen and then have it with something for taste. I've taken to putting on a slim and save cottage pie meal replacement instead of other seasonings and I like that.

Chef AJ (youtube) got me on to this - as she points out many other cultures around the world have veg for breakfast and would consider what we have odd!

73kittycat73 · 17/04/2022 10:57

Hi all, will reply properly later (Just got up. Grin ) I weighed in, I've put on 4lbs!!! Lol I am now 12st 11.2lbs.

73kittycat73 · 18/04/2022 19:50

I hope you had a nice time away WitchDancer?
Hi Courante. Nope still not convinced on veggies for breakfast! lol Grin
Managed OK yesterday and today (So far.). Do you find you read a lot of the weight loss threads/posts on here? I was reading one in I think in AIBU? And the sheer amount of conflicting advice...Confused Eat GF, Go vegan, low carb high fat, lots of protein...
I suppose we just have to find what's right for us as individuals.

Courante · 19/04/2022 10:00

The conflicting advice is really hard! I don't tend to read them that much now as I find it all a bit overwhelming.

I watched the forks over knives documentary, and subsequently other whole foods plant based documentaries, a few years ago and became pretty convinced. It is the prep/cooking that I find hard long-term when I'm the only one eating this way. I want to get back to it though, but maybe 90%. That and intermittent fasting.

I haven't been having veggies for breakfast for the last few two (+?) days. On Sunday I had a very mild hangover and then convinced myself that I really needed eggs on toast to recover. Yesterday I had marmalade on toast I think. Oh and had wine because it was bank holiday Monday (poor excuse I know).

Back to better choices today!

Courante · 19/04/2022 11:20

I'm going to try and get back into using MFP again...I think I've decided to put in my real weight - 10 lbs and set it to maintain, then have less calories than that...
Just changed my username to the same as my MN one, if any of you fancy a new MFP friend!

Courante · 21/04/2022 14:40

How is everyone doing post Easter?

I had a tooth extraction yesterday so I'm on soft foods (and eating on one side) - the fear of a dry socket focuses the mind a lot into not cheating!

I'm part using using meal replacements with a vague hope that I would end up slipping on to a VLCD for a bit.

It has definitely shown, yet again, how much I eat/drink for entertainment.

WitchDancer · 21/04/2022 17:20

Afternoon all! We're back and have had a lovely time. The last of the Easter chocolate has been eaten so normality will resume from tomorrow. I haven't braved the scales yet.

Courante · 23/04/2022 12:06

Hi WitchDancer - glad you had a lovely time!

I've completed an [ongoing] life audit in an attempt to drag me out of my motivational slump - I think it has worked...set myself small targets/missions in 11 different areas to be reviewed weekly. Unsurprisingly, three of the areas are directly food/drink/exercise related but really they are all linked. See how this goes!

WitchDancer · 23/04/2022 19:12

A life audit sounds like a good idea Courante. How do you start doing one?

Courante · 24/04/2022 09:12

I've just gone through each area of my life and assessed the current situation and come up with a simple goal/focus/strategy rather than a massive long list of things I want to improve in each area. The intention is to read and amend each week, like a working document. I'm using an online diary site (that I've already used for a couple of years) and I've set up and entry for each area under one diary. My areas at the moment are: healthy diet; health issues; exercise; alcohol; close relationships; friends and acquaintances; difficult people; grooming; hobbies and interests; wider world; work; our home.

WitchDancer · 24/04/2022 14:12

Thank you for sharing - I was thinking about this last night, all the things I would like to do, so I was sort of there.
