I’m starting tomorrow. I will weigh and measure myself in the morning and plan to log my weight here weekly.
I would love it if you would join me.
Who’s in?

Meant to stay - would like to loose a stone at least!

squidkid · 20/01/2018 08:05

Funnyfish yes I find pilates (even small amounts, if it's done properly) really helps my core - this also helps my pelvic floor and has totally eliminated the back/hip pain I used to get sometimes. I have an active job and walk a lot in my daily life, so whilst I'd love to do running etc, I find specific strength or core work is the best use of my time. I hadn't done any in ages though and couldn't do much on 1st January - proud I can now do 4 pilates roll ups with good form. Small steps but getting there!

Had wine last night but it fitted within calorie allowance so not being too cross with myself.

Maturestudent82 · 20/01/2018 08:12

Still no loss! I honestly don't understand it. Only one day in last week have I eaten over my calorie allowance and am definitely being more active Angry So hugely frustrating.

squidkid · 20/01/2018 08:30

maturestudent I sometimes find there is a bit of a delay to weight loss (like a few weeks) - keep going x

BornInALighthouse · 20/01/2018 09:14

Can I join?
I'm 5"7 and 11st 10. I lost 1/2st at the beginning of last year quite quickly and then gave up. I haven't put it back on but now I'm back to it it's not coming off as quickly and I'm beginning to wonder what the point is. I need my mojo back I think.

Walikingdeadfan · 20/01/2018 11:28

Id like to join too. I don't weigh myself but I'm only 5'1 and have probably about a stone to lose too. I had a baby in October so trying to find ways to work out with baby and make sure I don't snack all the time.

StinkingNorthener · 20/01/2018 12:47

Can I join please? I'm 5'3 and weigh 11 stone 5. I have an holiday booked for Majorca in may and want to feel a bit more confident in my clothes for then. I'm a terrible eater. I can go all day surviving on just coffee (with 2 sugars so my sugar intake is high) then eat a big tea with the kids and once they've gone bed I binge on chocolate, biscuits and crisps. I'm not going to do a diet as such but start eating more better by having breakfast, a healthy lunch and a normal size portion of tea. I'm going to try cutting out chocolate and crisps etc and replace them with healthier options like fruit, crackers etc. I am going to have one cheat day a week where I treat myself and make use of the gym membership I have but never use.

ooos · 20/01/2018 15:15

@Delilah37 could you get some cereal bars to eat on the way to work? I can't eat breakfast either so I just have a coffee and sometimes I can eat a rice cake but not often.

Pasta, jacket potato, rice and chicken, sandwich could be your dinner?

ooos · 20/01/2018 15:18

@StinkingNorthener

Could you replace sugar with sweeteners? Just 2 calories per teaspoon.

Could you take away one 'bad' food each week? Eg chocolate and then crisps. Also, I found frozen fruit really good to snack on.

StinkingNorthener · 20/01/2018 15:25

I've tried sweeteners like canderel etc but I don't like the artificial taste. I might try cutting down on the coffee and drink tea instead as I don't take sugar in that and only a dash of milk. At the moment I probably have about 6 to 8 cups of coffee a day so if I can reduce it to just one in the morning hopefully it will help a little. That's a good idea about cutting one bad food a day, I'll start with chocolate as I can eat a disgusting amount of that.

Iwasjustabouttosaythat · 21/01/2018 01:33

MatureStudent, how long have you been on the 1200 calorie diet? My day was flying off on my 1500 diet then it just plateaued. Apparently this is quite common with calorie counting because your body expects that to be the new normal and copes better with the lower calories.

Suggestions to fix the problem include:

  1. Yo-yo the calories each day ending the eeek with the same calories, so for me, 1400, 1600, 1500 etc;
  2. Take a few days off and eat more then hit the diet again;
  3. Go even lower on the calories...

I went for option 2, aka scoffing burger, chips and beer on Friday night. I’m not proud. Also two cheese sandwiches on Saturday. I’m back on the 1500 now and will report back if it works.

CortisolandCaffeine · 21/01/2018 08:13

Can I join? I’m 5’4 and 11st. My weight loss is soooo slow and I’m just working off the Christmas weight gain. Doing RED January and training for a couple of half marathons.

I weigh myself everyday because I find I get massive fluctuations in my weight (presumably due to water) and it helps to monitor that.

Monitor using MFP and on around 1200 a day. Try not to eat exercise calories unless it’s Saturday!

Maturestudent82 · 21/01/2018 08:28

I've been aiming for 1200 for a couple of weeks, occasionally under and occasionally up to maximum 1500. No wild days or anything like that! Yet weighed myself this morning and actually gained! I started at 9:10, got to 9:7 and back to 9:9 this morning! Absolutely gutted, and coupled with the fact I'm coming down with a rotten cold I'm throwing a massive one man pity party. Think my husband is pretty sick of me banging on about it 🙈

FluffyMcCloud · 21/01/2018 08:33

maturestudent I feel your pain, I'm finding weight loss very slow (last time I weighed I'd been 100% "on plan" for 18 days and not sniff of a loss at all)
I'm gonna keep on keeping on though! I don't know what else to do. It's making me feel a bit panicky I don't wanna be this fat forever 😩

wendz86 · 21/01/2018 08:42

Can I join in too please. My aim was to lose 16lb so just over a stone . I am 5ft 6 and started at 10 stone 12. I lost 3 lbs first week ,nothing second week but had a sneaky weigh in and should have lost this week . I’m using mfp to count calories .

PorklessPie · 21/01/2018 09:42

I miss swimming over the weekend, but I live in a tiny town and the pool is only open on weekends for family swimming and parties. There is a pool half an hour away but it's a freezing competition pool. But I stuck to my eating despite making lots of cookies for the children.

Mycashybear · 21/01/2018 11:48

Ok lovely ladies I’d like to join. I’m about 5ft 2/3 and weight 10st 7lb.
I suck at losing weight but none of my clothes fit anymore Confused

Mycashybear · 21/01/2018 11:50

What is everyone’s plan? I am going to try and devise some kind menu for the week. Just had surgery (literally 3 days ago on neck) so exercise is out for a moment so walking for me. Be interested to hear every one else’s plan xxx

wendz86 · 21/01/2018 12:31

I’m a bit rubbish on the exercise front but do get extra calories on mfp from walking to and from the station to my work . Last year before I went on holiday I did the 30 day shred workout (not every day ) and worked pretty well .

Grufeling · 21/01/2018 15:28

5' 2 and a half and weigh 10 stone. Goal is 8 stone 7 probably but would be happy at 9.

Am doing low carb high protein and have largely given up alcohol and bread, pasta, rice, potato apart from in fishcakes).

I was 10 stone 5 a week ago so I've lost something, even if it's just water.

Probably need to adjust my portion control and hit the gym.

Funnyfishface · 21/01/2018 17:21

Welcome everyone.

I wonder if anyone has had success with the 5-2 or 16-8 where you only eat 500 calories for 2 days or eat within a certain window of time.

I am finding the whole calorie counting so obsessive. If you are calorie counting do you weigh everything you eat. I am thinking constantly of food.

Well done to those of you that have seen a drop on the scales already. Good work

I was doing the ns 'diet' for a bit (some threads about it on here) and that really helped to seen me off sugar, quite painlessly. Other than that I'm not following a diet as such as I really want to make sustainable changes. However, after thinking I'd done well last week and not losing anything, I'm using an app to track calorie in take.

fabulousfrumpyfeet · 21/01/2018 19:44

funnyfish I can imagine only eating within a certain time frame might work. I fast in Ramadan which is essentially the same thing (only eating between sunset and sunrise), throughout the month I seem to eat less and less as my stomach shrinks.

bunzie · 21/01/2018 22:50

Hi can I join... better late than never. I so badly want to lose a stone... I managed to lose 3.5 stone last year and have maintained my weight... but have put back half stone since december. I am 5'2.

Homemadehopeful · 21/01/2018 23:40

I am calorie counting, aim is 1200 per day but have actually been under a couple of days. Today is around 1100. This seems to work best for me. I have tried 5:2 a few years ago but hardly lost any weight at all but I keep wondering whether to throw in some fast days, they are just so tough though.
I also weigh most days (didn't this morning) and I find this helps me stay on track. I will only update weight on app once a week though on a Friday.
Have planned tomorrow's food up to my evening meal but have left 600 cals for that so should be fine.
Keep on keeping on all!
