It’s that time of year again when mince pies attack and the baileys is calling.

Trying to stay on the wagon is easier when you ihave the Slenderistas on your side

Yay lasty you go girl! Sorry about the hangover but glad you had a good night out.

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 17/12/2017 14:59

Hello all! I've gained 4.6lbs since last friday, bloody December.

Nice to see how well everyone is doing though!

I'm now aiming for a run of golden days now, starting today. Should come in at 1200 calories and I've done a bodypump class.

TheDonald · 17/12/2017 17:50

I've fallen off the no sugar wagon with a bump! It's amazing how much I crave it once I start eating it again.

We've started on the Christmas chocolate today.

No upward movement on the scales yet. I sts this week.

poorpaws · 17/12/2017 22:37

I still darent weigh myself but I know the gain is massive ☹️

BitOutOfPractice · 17/12/2017 22:52

I'm doing ok with food. Just stymied by the wine

Tomorrow is Monday which is weigh day. I have zero motivation and have been snacking constantly on Christmas treats while cleaning up today. Hopefully the wiping and sweeping and picking up of objects has burnt enough calories for me to have lost 50 stone by tomorrow....

IheartCaptainHolt · 18/12/2017 01:02

My weigh in is on Tuesday and I'm not looking forward to it. Put 2lb on last week, it was looking good to have lost that earlier this week but xmas do's on Saturday and Sunday with both lots of food and some drinks may have scuppers that.

The fact that it's the first time I've put weight on since June is some consolation at least.

Triskaidekaphilia · 18/12/2017 01:52

I've not been super hungry yet which is strange- normally I'm fine once in ketosis but for the first few days it's hell- might have more fat this time around. Lost 1lb which I know is just water but it's nice to see the scale move downwards for a change! Have had a tiny bit of cheese today and yesterday but luckily it's all gone now!

Started 30 day shred again today but just did some walking on the spot/gentle movements in the cardio bits as I've been told only gentle exercise on the diet.

HairsprayBabe · 18/12/2017 08:16

10.4 how is it possible to gain half a stone in three days I hear you ask?

Well, step one go out on Friday night, having fasted all day to mitigate damage have 5 cocktails two glasses of wine and a three course meal, and an extra mince pie. Go home slightly woozy at midnight, have two large slices of bread and butter and a cup of tea. Go to bed.

The second stage; wake up on Saturday morning with a bit of a sore head. Have one slice of toast with almond butter and a coffee, remind self to be good during the day as you are hosting a party that evening. Go about your day, doing party prep, this unfortunately involves a lot of "tasting". Think, never mind will dial it back this evening and not eat much later. Kick off the party with mulled wine, then some cocktails, jelly shots prosecco, the numbers don't really matter now just drink as much as you physically can whilst simultaneously eating a large proportion of the buffet. Do loud and terrible karaoke until 4am.

Sunday, the final stage. Wake up at 8am drink a pint of pepsi max, congratulate your self on not throwing up the night before. Remember you cleverly made two of Nigellas "Cheese and Onion Stratas" as part of the party prep on Saturday.
Put them in the oven while eating left over pringles. Remember you also bought breakfast pastries. Put them out for overnight guests to help themselves, make a large pot of tea and eat quality street. Answer the door to neighbour/guest from last night who has arrived with doughnuts and coffee. Pronounce love for them.
Eat breakfast, the only food group that should be represented well is refined carbs.
Send guests away at lunch time. Have a nap on the sofa. wake up at 2 pm and watch "A christmas prince" on netflix while laying horizontally and eating leftovers from the buffet that you cleverly put away the night before.
It is mainly cold cheese pizza and puff pastry straws. Run out of pizza and move on to After 8's keep going until you feel a bit sick (probably about 6ish). Have a shower and put on clean PJ's, tell yourself to draw a line and the diet re-commences immediately. Have a herbal tea and go to bed early feeling slightly better.

Monday - wake up, weigh self, HORROR. Remind self of amazing weekend and ponder if it was all worth it....

Reader, it was.

HappyGowerGirl · 18/12/2017 09:11

HairsprayBabe your weekend sounds amazing😂😂😂 I love the way you write, too😂

Fasting is never a good idea.

I have sleeping in late and being late out of bed and not having time to eat before I go to the gym.

I've noticed in boditrax machine that my muscle percentage has dropped like a stone and my fat has gone up a few percent.

One of the personal trainers told me when you fast, your body will break down the protein in muscle to use for fuel. So you burn muscle and not fat.

It's better to eat something than starve all day.

It's also possible that if you're fasting all the time the weight loss isnt real . It's water weight loss and as soon as you eat normally on it goes.

twinkledag · 18/12/2017 11:01

hairspray 🤣

HairsprayBabe · 18/12/2017 11:07

I disagree on the fasting front, Niki it can be very good if you use it properly as a sharp reduction in calories will boost the metabolism initially. It is to do with when we were hunter gatherers and needed more energy when there was less food about to go and actually find it! Lots of people find the 5:2 fasting and 16:8 fasting works for them so I guess it depends on your lifestyle.

Also the burning muscle/lowering metabolism stuff only really kicks in if you have had a dramatic calorie deficit for a very long time, like months and months, at sub 700 calories. I generally do 2 fast days at about 450-500 and then 4 days at 1000-1200 ish and then one more at the moment annoyingly much more relaxed.

Plus if it is all calories in versus calories out then skipping meals when you have big dinner plans makes sense?

FreeNiki · 18/12/2017 11:24

Also I couldn't eat real food for 2-3 weeks after my wisdom teeth so I was semi fasting for all that time and it's done one thing...eat away my muscle.

FreeNiki · 18/12/2017 11:25

Ok but then I dont fast at all.

And i dont get massive gains of several pounds in the space of a few days like I see alot of on here........

I eat regularly and exercise.

I fluctuate by a pound or so and have wooshes when I lose.

I dont need to fast.

HairsprayBabe · 18/12/2017 11:40

I think that is what I love about this thread Niki we all do different things and it all works differently around each others lifestyles. It can be about frustrating when you see people doing things that you can't imagine being part of your own diet plan but the support for different methods is great!

I 100% deserved a gain this weekend, and I imagine I am weighing a lot of the food that is still in my system, I don't think I gained 6lbs of actual fat, it is funny to see just how much an off weekend can have an impact though!

BitOutOfPractice · 18/12/2017 12:28

I don't fast either. I occasionally have two meals a day instead of three but that's as far as my fasting will power goes. I'm a wimp

OP posts:
HappyGowerGirl · 18/12/2017 12:50

Of course intermittent fasting works for some people! It is an effective way of creating a calorie deficit!

Niki I don't think you can attribute your loss in muscle mass during your illness to fasting alone - You also exercised a lot less during that period!

I agree with Hairspray's comment that different things work for different people. For me personally, fasting is an effective way of compensating for indulging at other times. I can see why other people aren't keen on it, though🙂

BeyondAssignation · 18/12/2017 12:57

I'm with you BOOP. Well kind of. I don't fast in the sense of not eating, but I can eat a very small amount of calories (still usually 3 meals) and be happy with it on some days, and on others I need to eat my full allowance! Not related to expenditure, I can frequently do more on the days when I eat less. Wish I knew what it was, so I could do it every day Grin

Softpebbles · 18/12/2017 13:00

That's not a real gain though Hairspray - within a few days I am sure you will be back down.

Re fasting I can't do it I like food too much Grin but what works for one wont work for another.

Hairspray freely admits that she hates the Gym etc and has better control of her diet with great results. I don't fast but work out 3/4 times a week. My loss has been slow but undoubtedly my shape has changed and the scales are moving. And I feel stronger*.
*(disclaimer not emotionally!)

New low this weekend and today 10st 10lb. Dying to be 10st 9 before Christmas!! My heaviest ever was 11st 9 so in theory nearly a stone :)

TVHubbyClaire · 18/12/2017 17:05

I have been totally overdoing things...

Work dinners and drinks and then another big hotel lunch and wine yesterday...upside yesterday was I was wearing new 32" waist slim jeans...not sure they would have fitted todayBlush

haven't weighed for a few days. I am now hopefully off booze until the big dayHmm

twinkledag · 18/12/2017 17:48

I used to fast every Monday when I was doing low carb, it felt good after excesses of the weekend!
