I want to lose a stone, by eating less and moving more, anyone care to join?

I'm 11 stone! The heaviest I've ever been and would like to be 9.5, but a more realistic goal is 10.

I've put on due to multiple rounds of IVF and being banned from exercise.

I'd like to control my portion sizes, have a few less treats (avoid stress rating) and move a bit more (maybe low impact exercise rather than previous hill running which I'm banned from).

I'll also be using my fitbit to track activity vs calories.

Anyone care to join for motivation and support?

Mr I was 61.6 when I started! You can do it!

QuimReaper · 14/07/2016 22:16

Welcome wonder that sounds like a great plan, slashing carbs is the only thing that works for me!

QuimReaper · 14/07/2016 22:17

just I only go to cinemas where they serve decent wine Blush I'm sure you'll be fine though! Good news on the NSV, feeling better in your clothes has to be the end-game.

justjuanmorebeer · 14/07/2016 22:40

Yes my cinema has lovely wine too! All the lovely things that is what I am worrird about. I mean, you can't go and see ab fab and not drink wine really.

QuimReaper · 14/07/2016 23:20

MrBoot when did you do the 5:2 before, how long did you do it for and have you put it all back on?

Just wondering if you've lost the "easy" weight and now you're on to the sticky stuff?

I think the 5:2 is a funny one - you hear all these success stories but also about lots of plateaus and slow losses. Frustrating that it isn't working as well this time though, I do feel for you.

QuimReaper · 14/07/2016 23:21

OH God no just that calls for Bolly! Grin

QuimReaper · 14/07/2016 23:30

Also MrBoot have you thought about having a go at 16:8ing? Which, if you don't know, is eating all of your meals in an 8hr window and then having a 16-hr fast. I find eating between 12 and 8 the easiest to stick to, as I can cope pretty well on tea until noon.

I've been trying to do it as often as possible and I think it's really helped me.

When I was being REALLY extreme I tried to eat one big meal a day, but it just isn't practicable really...

MrBoot · 15/07/2016 00:28

I will try anything Quim, when you are 16:8ing is that on your fast days or NFDs? I rarely eat before 12 so that won't be an issue for me. The after 8pm eating is much harder for me as I'm a night owl and will often stay up until 2am.

I was my current weight when I last did the 5:2, I was on maternity leave and when I returned to work, I found I piled it all up again - just a mix of eating badly due to tiredness (baby not sleeping etc) but my circumstances have changed again and I am less stressed and tired so decided to give it another go. It took me six months the last time to lose ten pounds (very very slow progress) plus I was jogging very slowly three times a week.

I'm not looking for a 'quick fix' but nine or ten pounds in twenty four weeks is ridiculously slow surely?

QuimReaper · 15/07/2016 10:00

MrBoot

The 16:8 is all the time, in fact if anything I am less strict on fast days because I'm eating so little, I sometimes get ravenous and have a small snack later in the evening. The idea is that the long fasts give your body a chance to burn more: a spin on the "breakfast like a queen" idea. I definitely find that eating late in the evening has an adverse affect on my weight so I find this helpful. I don't worry about tea and coffee in the 16 hours though.

I wouldn't be so sure about that being a slow weight loss, a friend of mine's been doing the 5:2 for almost a year and only lost 10lbs - I think the nice thing about the diet is that you will lose, albeit slowly over time, even if you don't worry at all about what you eat on the non-fast days: I lost a couple of pounds on my first few of weeks of the 5:2 - I might even have just maintained - because of indulging on other days, and only really lost weight more noticeably when I had two fast days and two "good days". (I said this upthread I think, but on those days I tend to try and keep my daytime food intake the same as on a fast day, and then for dinner have something non-calorie-counted but not carby / mega-calorific, like a salmon fillet on veg, or a halloumi salad).

I am a bit confused though, was it another poster who said that last time they did the 5:2 they didn't count calories at all on NFDs and still lost a pound a week?

MrBoot · 15/07/2016 10:14

That was probably me. I lost when I did it properly but I had more non 5:2 weeks than diet weeks. I definitely lost when I did 4:3 and didn't count cals on NFDs. That was pretty unsustainable and I overate on NFDs, after writing that down no wonder it took so long to lose.

QuimReaper · 15/07/2016 10:46

I actually think 10lbs in 6months isn't so bad, since you don't have loads to lose and aren't desperate to get it off by a deadline - appreciate that isn't so helpful though! The main problem is you being starving all the time, can you pinpoint what you're doing differently this time to last time? I think protein is definitely the way to go: I swear by 2 hard-boiled eggs in the afternoon on fast days, 140 calories and fills you up for ages.

QuimReaper · 15/07/2016 10:47

If you have a more active lifestyle this time round, could it just be that? Maybe giving 600 instead of 500 calories a go might make the difference? You definitely need to avoid carbs on fast days, they make you ravenous.

MrBoot · 15/07/2016 11:53

Thanks Quim. I love this thread. I did a high protein diet Bootcamp recently. My target was 140g per day. I found it very hard to reach even half that target including a daily protein bar with a calorie target of 1250.

SimonNeilshair · 15/07/2016 18:46

Well lunch went well yesterday, it was a raw food health restaurant so it was all healthy stuff bit I avoided the high calorie stuff (I think!)

Exercise has been good this week I just hope it shows on the scales.

just I'm off to see Ab Fab tomorrow night, we're dressing up too Grin our cinema does good wine and a cheese platter! It's going to be very difficult to resist

Quim well done on seeing 55 on the scales!

Mr I was useless at 5:2, I have heard good things about 16:8. I might try it myself over the summer as I can't eat too early anyway...eating after 8pm happens occasionally for me but not too often that it should hamper things I hope

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 15/07/2016 22:40

Done lots of exercise this week and eaten pretty well but weight doesn't seem to be going down very much. Have to see what tomorrow's weigh in shows I guess.

Spreadsheet is going well though. Grin

Hi to all the newbies! We are a nice bunch here. :)

flowerpotfairy · 16/07/2016 21:18

I want to go to the cinemas you lot are going to!! Our town has a decrepit old Odeon that you need to wipe your feet on the way out.

How's everyone finding the weekend? Dh just rang to say he's on his way home from work and wants a "cheat day" in the form of an indian. Been looking at menus and going to be a good girl and just get a chicken tikka starter and make a salad to go with.....may report back tomorrow saying had half of dh naan and rice but at least for now my intentions are good 😉

SimonNeilshair · 17/07/2016 14:17

I had my cinema trip last night, loved the film but the cinema had stopped taking orders for food so I missed out on a cheese platter, I did have half a bottle of wine and a cocktail though and then 3 packets of crisps when I got in as I was so hungry Blush

justjuanmorebeer · 17/07/2016 17:45

Right weigh in update. 8st. So that means I have lost a total of 8lbs in 4 weeks. Pretty happy with that. Holiday tomorrow.

Seems that if I watch what I eat and drink I can lose at a rate of 2lb a week. I'd like to maintain on holiday but we will see how that goes. Watch every single lb go back on in aperol spritz!

I will carry on trying to lose a bit in August when I am back as really do have an aim of 7st6. So a further 8lbs between Aug-Sept? Possible?

MrBoot · 17/07/2016 19:09

Just that is a terrific achievement especially hard when you don't have a lot to lose.

Can I ask what your daily calorie allowance is and what exercise do you do?

Mr boot I don't have a calorie allowance I don't count them and I don't do any ext4a exercise other than having a very active single mum life. I don't have a car so have to do the school run/commute to train station on foot.
I have been doing a loose slimming world esque (copied from my friend who is doing it) thing basically unlimited protein with veg/salad and very few sugary treats or alcohol. Before I started this I used to drink quite a bit of wine/beer.

I have mainly been eating a lot of fruit+yoghurt and eggs/oats for brekkie, salads for lunch and a meat or fish dish for dinner with veg or more salad.

This is the first time I have dieted so I am not really sure what I am doing but have just sort of winged it.

SimonNeilshair · 18/07/2016 09:14

Well the pound I lost last week has gone back on Angry I'm going on holiday this week so don't hold out much hope for losing any while away. I'll take my running stuff with me though and try and keep active as much as possible.

Bah, maybe it's portion size?

QuimReaper · 18/07/2016 19:10

I've been awful Blush

On Friday my bridesmaid took me out and I got so drunk, and ate everything. I literally can't even remember how much I ate.

Over the weekend I was a bit better but not great.

Walked 12K today and ate almost nothing to make up for it but just forgot myself and ate four Minstrels!

I have four bloody days til the Big Day, you'd think I could control myself! Never mind, this afternoon I bought some Spanx Grin

flowerpotfairy · 20/07/2016 08:45

Anyone else have an ice cream yesterday? Blush

geeup · 20/07/2016 08:47

Anyone else have a BBQ with mushrooms in cream on the side and then strawberries and cream for pudding Hmm
