SLIMMING WORLD - WE CAN DO IT - NEW THREAD

Hi everyone. Hope you don't mind but thought I'd take the opportunity of starting a new thread as the other one is huge!

So how is everyone getting on? Are you getting through the weekend okay without too many temptations?

I have had a very successful first two days back on the Slimming World Plan. It's surprising how much I remember about it and I haven't been to group for 6+ months. I arranged to go to group with Surfermum this time round. She definately inspired me to get back onto it. She has done so well and her weight loss is really noticeable - she looks great!
When the evening came to go to group I will say that, although I knew that I must lose weight, my motivation wasn't 100% there. Now I have got my shopping in and have started writing out my food diary I am really enjoying it. DH made himself a proper greasy fry up yesterday morning - the works! And I found the willpower to say no - to be honest the smell of the grease was enough to put me off anyway.
Found the new Mullerlight yogs yesterday - they have loads of new ones now don't they? I tried the sticky toffee pudding one - yum!

Can I join in now? I was supposed to start last Wednesday, but broke a toe meaning that I can't walk far or drive. Hoping it will hurt less next week so that I can at least drive and get started on the SW plan.

Anyone got any really good tips for a beginner??

Do I have to stand up and say "I'm Freckle and I'm a bloater. My weight is xxx and my goal is yyy"???! Here, I mean, not at SW .

Sparkler1 · 10/09/2006 10:20

Hi Freckle. Good luck and welcome to the thread. It's a fantastic weight loss plan so you've picked a good one.
Tips? - hmmm. I would say don't expect to get the hang of it straight away. It might take you a few weeks to get to grips with it all but you will get there. Even when you get used to the basics you'll always be dipping into your books.

Does anyone have a SW recipe for ripe bananas. I thought about a "banana loaf" of some sort with all bran, but can't find anything on the internet that sounds like what I'm after. Anyone got any ideas - don't really want to bin the nanas!

Mumbojumbo · 10/09/2006 11:05

Hi Freckle

I'd agree with don't worry if you don't get the hang of it immediately - took me a good few weeks. The SW magazine has some good meal plans in it. I follow these and try and plan my week, that way I've not got to lunchtime and think "hmmm, what am I going to have" - I know in advance. Can always shift the meals around if you don't fancy what's on the menu for that day. I tend to do green as I'm a cous cous and roasted veg fan. The roasted veg are lovely hot, cold and then whizzed up with tomatoes and thrown over pasta penne with some low fat cheese. There - 3 meals ideas!

JJoanneuk · 11/09/2006 12:05

vickyk · 11/09/2006 21:17

hiya

just to let SPARKLER1 know that the toffee pudding yogs have Syns in so be carefull. I am still searching for chocolate ones which are free mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm bye x

surprise · 11/09/2006 21:56

I haven't done SW for a few years, and I'm sure that last time tinned macaroni cheese was free on a green day. had one yesterday, but double-checked online and it's 9.5 syns!! no wonder I didn't lose much weight last time as I virtually lived on it! have had minced beef tonight, dry fried then drained off all the fat, but it still felt a bit greasy. Is this allowed?

Mumbojumbo · 11/09/2006 22:52

Yay - 2.5lbs this week. Total is now 1st 3.5lbs in 6 weeks!

JJoanneuk · 11/09/2006 23:32

Yayyyyyyyyyyy 4.5 lbs this week

Sparkler1 · 11/09/2006 23:43

Mumbojumbo and JJoanneuk - well done to you both on your brilliant weight losses. It makes it all worthwhile doesn'it it? Let's just hope I'm following in your footsteps on my first weigh in on my first week back to SW.

vickyk - thanks for the tip on the toffee yog. Yes, I was aware that there were syns involved. I always check on the online syns calculator whenever I try anything new. There's always plenty of syns left for me to add a yoghurt or two on.

JJoanneuk

4.5lb - that's brilliant!
What plan are you on - red/green or a mixture?
I've managed 4.5lb once and don't really know how! What's your favourite meal on SW?

karenj1980 · 12/09/2006 10:50

I did wonder where the thread was.

Lost 4.5lb last week

charliebrown33 · 12/09/2006 12:36

well done to the 4.5Ib weight losses this week. How on earth do you do it??!! I really struggle every week...any inspiration you have please pass it on :-)

badkarma · 12/09/2006 12:53

My first weigh-in is tomorrow night.. I have stuck to the placn doing green days all this week so hopefully it will be ok. Still nervous though, despite doing more exercise this weel than ever before... I climbed a mountain and swam twice and went a 4mile walk... silly to be afraid of having gained, but it seems to be I never have stopped eating!

halibaba · 12/09/2006 19:36

This weeks password is vegetable

badkarma · 12/09/2006 20:40

How did you do this week Halibaba?

halibaba · 12/09/2006 20:55

2lb, wanted more but never mind.

JJoanneuk · 12/09/2006 21:09

Girls I mostly do red days or original as they now call it lots of meats and veggies...Its odd really co I have done the same thing week in week out for 10 weeks and my weight loss has varied from 6.5 lbs in one week to 1.lb the next...... I was happy to get the 4.5 off though this week

charliebrown33 · 13/09/2006 10:38

thanks Joanne, I think i will go back on red days, I have been doing green but only lost 1IB this week, bit dissappointed, but i suppose its better than a gain...why does it go on so easy (last week I put 3Ib on, from my star week, even though I was good) going to take me another two weeks to get back to where I was at this rate!! any tips on quick snacks for work on red days anyone, its easy with green cos I can have a mugshots or something which is quick and filling...

erobbo · 13/09/2006 10:51

ImogensMummy · 13/09/2006 11:06

Udder · 13/09/2006 12:03

Hello All, Well done to everyone. I weighed in this morning and put on 1.1/2 but still 1/2lb under my target. Tip: Variation is the key!

Expectantmum · 13/09/2006 18:43

Hi does anyone mind if i join??? Have restarted diet nearly a week now. My problem is I am unable to attend weekly meets because I work evenings, and all the local meets close to me are in the evening, so I am gonna have to try and do it alone, which is why I am hoping you don't mind if I join? I am also not doing it by weight, I get so disheartened if I have a bad week and don't lose anything, that I usually give up. I am currently a comfortable size 16 and my aim is to lose a dress size by Christmas and then at least another dress size by May next year. I have done SW before, where I lost about a stone in just under a month, but then my mum fell ill and I spent most of my time looking after her and just ate when I could so it crept on, and then I had my DS 15 months ago and I try to diet but its so difficult. Please help!

surprise · 13/09/2006 19:23

Expectantmum - I'm going it alone as well! Started last Tuesday have lost 2lbs this week, so it's a good start. I find it much easier than any other diet, as I found on WW I was always hungry. Have just eaten a massive Quorn chill with rice and veg, Muller light and melon. Feel pretty stuffed now. Be happy to "pal up" for a bit of moral support - do you want to weigh in/measure on the same day, pretending we're at class?? My plan is to buy something new to wear (top or something) for each 5lbs i lose (need to lose 30lbs).
