Nice one Knotty Smile

Morning all!

Thanks Febes, I will follow your advice and start on 4 circuits and work up gradually (if I can!). They haven't arrived yet

You sound like you had one of those inner tussle days yesterday - I should do it / I don't want to / You must / I can't etc. etc. Oh they are very familiar!

I think it was Conchita who said she saw her exercise spot as a non-negotiable deal in her head. Just got down to it as automatically as you brush your teeth every day. I try and think like this when I really can't face it (doesn't always work Grin)

Venetia have a great holiday...

JelliBelli · 05/08/2011 14:02

Hi All,

Just thought I stick my head round the door to say hello.

I am still concentrating on the running and filling in with Jillian on my non running days. I've got DH joining in now and as he doesn't carry much flab Envy his 6W6P is starting to show already - week 2! I am not really bothered as it is fun doing it with him AND i am better at some of it than him - hurrah! He lacks co-ordination (bless!) which is amusing on L2 6W6P even when he clouts the light fitting....

Enjoy your holidays and get well soon.

threestepsforward · 06/08/2011 15:46

Hello all Smile

Jellibelli your post made me grin. I blackmailed persuaded DP to do one Shred with me and the day is apparently tomorrow! Watch this space...

ALthough, I'd be happy if he doesn't do it as my NMTZ arrived today and I'm excited Grin! I haven't had time to do it today but fully plan to tomorrow. I watched it through as I was cleaning this afternoon and I really like the look of it - seems to do exactly what it says on the tin and target all the areas you need.

Will try and do the whole thing through tomorrow at least for the first time , it's less stressful to do a longer session on a weekend day, and then fit in x number of circuits during the week.

Will report back!!

Hope everyone's having a good weekend

knottyhair · 06/08/2011 16:08

JelliBelli, DP is the same! I'm determined to get him to try a whole routine with me one day, I've only managed to get him to try a few moves so far. He is very strong and slim but maybe not as cardio fit as he should be and again, whilst he can manage most of the stuff, he is not the most co-ordinated biscuit in the barrel Grin. Threesteps, let us know what you think of NMTZ, I love it! I really like doing the whole thing when I have time, but I find 4 circuits is OK, although I didn't feel I was doing quite enough so now pause after each one and do a Shred cardio circuit in between which I really like doing.

chocolateshoes · 06/08/2011 21:08

well I'm back from 2 weeks holiday. Disaster weight wise - have eaten far too much and there was no ac in the gym so it was boiling and impossible to do anything. Luckily, our scales broke just before we went away so have no idea of actual weight gain - but I can feel it. On the plus side, when I picked up the 3k weights there they felt really light - I've been using DH's dumbells and hadn't realised that the middle bar is 1k in itself - so have been using 4k all along! Also my calf muscle is much better. Have managed most of the cardio on Shred L3 now but am going to leave the rock star jumps a little longer as I'm scared it might not be totally healed yet. Am replacing those with extra abs. So its back to the routine, desperately need to sort my stomach out.

threestepsforward · 07/08/2011 17:01

Hi all
Welcome back from holiday Chocolateshoes and great news you feel you're finally on the mend. Probably a good idea to steer clear of those rock star jumps though until you're sure you're better...

I had my first taste of NMTZ today! I did manage to do the whole thing through, though I'm sure my form was pretty bloomin' poor for a lot of it (windscreen wipers anyone?)... but I managed it! It was a lot easier to follow than 6W6P. The one that left me most puzzled was the plank move where you tap your legs to each side - I didn't feel that at all, and she was saying what a toughie it was, I wonder what I was doing wrong Hmm. I do think I'll feel the effects tomorrow though...

Knotty I really like the idea of adding some cardio into the mix. I haven't got the boost metabolism DVD yet but when it arrives, do you reckon I could do say 4 circuits of NBTZ and a few of the metabolism one afterwards? (to save me having to muck around with too much dvd changing Grin)

Much better warm down in NMTZ than Shred too!

chocolateshoes · 07/08/2011 17:45

hey 3 Steps - I agree about that side tapping thing - not difficult at all. Have tried getting into a really low flat plank but it still doesn't hurt!

Shred nearly killed me this morning - 2 weeks off is too long! JM is punishing me now!

febes · 07/08/2011 21:20

Glad you liked it 3steps. Yes the tapping planks are not that bad or the twisting planks but I try and keep my bum as low as possible. What did you think of the surrenders??? I have to do them with my 1kgs!!
I always find the side kicks on your knees right at the end a killer.
Could you do NMTZs one day and BFBM the next. That what I've been doing and its a good balance.
I'm restarting today after 5 days off due to killer sore throat so wish me luck...

threestepsforward · 07/08/2011 21:53

Chocshoes the last few Shreds I did last week were a killer...I really struggled, and that was without the 2-week holiday!! I blame it on the hot, balmy British summer Hmm

Hi Febes Smile I didn't mind the surrenders Shock I used 2 kg for the whole dvd and it was the first circuit that I found the hardest I think - all the arm stuff. Oh, and the windscreen wipers, they were impossible! I find the side plan raises tough too...

Good plan to do one day on one day off with cardio in between. Am eagerly awaiting the postman Grin

Night all, here's to a good Jillian week ahead

threestepsforward · 07/08/2011 21:54

Oh and good luck after the sore throat break!

febes · 08/08/2011 02:15

I do 2kg for the first circut and the 4th circuit (triceps) except surrenders. The 3kgs for everything else.
I did the full BFBM this morning. I think its my favourite at the moment. I thank the fitness gods for the kickboxing circuits because they are easier. Circuit 6 is hard, and 2. I love them though. I better lose some bloody weight this week!!!

knottyhair · 08/08/2011 09:11

Morning! Chocolateshoes - wow, 4kg! Very impressive! Glad your calf muscle is getting better. I must admit, I don't do the rockstars, everytime I have, my knee really hurts, so I replace them with jumping jacks or buttkicks with weights. Threesteps, if I do 4 circuits of NMTZ, I just pause the DVD after each one and do 4 x 30 seconds of whatever I fancy, I set my kitchen timer! I don't always have time to do the whole NMTZ, although I love it when I do. Febes, glad your sore throat is better and I totally agree about circuit 6 on BFBM! I lent my copy to a friend who has got rather attached to it. Must get it back...

Just done a Level 2 Shred - I definitely like it more now than I used to, although still hate squat thrusts and the chair squats with v raises. I had to use 2kg still for the first strength circuit but managed 3kg for the rest, apart from the 2nd lot of chair squat v raises. Knackered now!

OP posts:
notyummy · 08/08/2011 09:26

Hi all - I lost this thread but just noticed it on the active list!

Sounds like lots of good work going on. On NMTZ, I think the first 5 circuits are def the hardest, so worth just doing those if you are short of time. I use a mixture of 5 kg and 3 kg (def only 3kg for the surrenders, and I really feel it by the end of them!!) On the first circuit I am fine with 5kg for the squat and shoulder pres, but hurriedly have to change down to 3kg for the lunge and shoulder raise!! Windscreen wipers are fine for me - but I find the plank and toe taps quite hard. Has anyone tried doing all the advanced version of the spider push-ups in 6W6P - nearly killed me (and no I didn't manage them all!!)

Did a double shred with DH on Saturday and did a mixture of 5kg and 3kg (am using 7.5 kg for the clean and press and it actually feels quite tough with that amount - it was always easy peasy before Grin) DH tried 5kg for the chair squats and v raises and decided to lower the weight very quickly......

febes · 08/08/2011 09:36

Hard core notyummy. I am in awe of your weight capabilities!!

Jacksterbear · 08/08/2011 15:57

Ooh, found you, I was thinking the old thread had gone v quiet, didn't realise it was maxed out!

NMTZ circuits 1-5 just completed, man that's tough! Agree with 3steps re the windscreen wipers, they are completely impossible.

febes circuit 2 is my BFBM nemesis!!

Toying with the idea of getting some 3kg weights Confused...

threestepsforward · 08/08/2011 18:52

Evening to all Smile

Wow, I too am in awe with the level of weights everyone is managing! I did NMTZ all the way through again today, and there is no way I could have managed higher weights than 2kg, especially in the first circuit.

Knotty I added 4 blasts of cardio between the circuits, which seemed to work well. Still no sign of my boost metabolism dvd, grr!

Hey Jackster, with the windscreen wipers today I bent my legs which really helped. I'm sure I could still feel it working on the sides of my tummy despite cheating...

I still feel like Shred is this mythical magic thing in terms of its results. Are people doing other DVDs finding them as effective, in a similar period of time?

Hope everyone is having a good evening

febes · 08/08/2011 21:21

I've said it before but I think circuit 2 (abs) NMTZs is the best for abs. I agree 2kgs is all I can manage for circuit 1. Those shoulder raises and back lunges are pretty tough.
I'm doing NMTZs today and my challenge is to stick to my 2kg for the surrenders. Wish me luck.

notyummy · 08/08/2011 22:30

Good luck febes!

Did 6W6P earlier. Occasionally makes my lower back twinge, so fingers crossed I will be ok tomorrow.

febes · 09/08/2011 03:56

I get a sore back from time to time from 6W6P as well. Hmm
I did it surrenders with 2 kgs. Its hard getting up off the ground!! My muscles are nicely aching.
Back to BFBM tomorrow. I must be getting fitter because I'm loving cardio at the moment.
I know it depends on your weight and intensity but how many cals do you guys think each dvd burns in a session. I know the shred is a bit more than 200. Do you think BFBM is around 500 or is that too many? What about NMTZs 500 too? I'm logging my exercise on MFP and I don't want to be putting my cals as too much IYSWIM.

knottyhair · 09/08/2011 07:08

Febes, I've been logging it as circuit training. Shred comes up as 155, I think the whole of NMTZ is about 300, 6W6P I log as 200. That seems to work out OK when it comes to the weight loss I should be achieving so I'm assuming it's fairly accurate for me (5' 4", 9 stone 2lbs). It's hard though as you say, it depends on so many factors!

OP posts:
febes · 09/08/2011 07:39

Thanks for that I have been putting it as circuit training too. 40mins gives me 500 but the could be because I am 15st Blush
Find me as a friend on MFP if you want Knotty I'm kiwifebes on there.

notyummy · 09/08/2011 09:15

So my back is giving me major gip this morning. Not happy!! Will have a day off and do something that may not tax it too much tomorrow - gentle run or crosstrainer perhaps. I have issues with my back a couple of times a year and it really annoys me, because I have a very strong core and do all the right things. Not sure if my desk job for a few hours a day helps though.

threestepsforward · 09/08/2011 09:32

Morning!

Notyummy sorry to hear about your back. I sympathise as I suffer with lower back problems - helped to some degree by trips to the chiropractor. Funnily since starting Shredding I've had fewer problems, although I have to be careful with scissor/windshield type exercises because of it. Will yours normally get better with a bit of a rest?

Well I am feeling it today!!!! I agree that circuit 2 of NMTZ was a killer ab section - the top of my tummy, where the rib cage starts, was really shrieking as I was doing the circuit yesterday and seems cross with me today Grin. Quads and bum muscles also grumbling...

Think I will do 6W6P today unless my BFBM dvd arrives...trying very hard to wean myself off Shred!

knottyhair · 09/08/2011 09:35

Thanks for accepting the friend request febes! Notyummy, hope your back recovers soon. I've had problems with mine in the past, although I must admit, it's a lot better now I exercise regularly. As you say, sitting at a desk is not the best but sounds like you're doing everything you can to improve things.

Did L2 6W6P this morning - managed 3kg weights, and oh my god, that is definitely my limit at the moment. It's the hardest routine for me out of all the Jillian stuff I think, but I do enjoy it! Pretty sure I am not double timing the chops though Blush.
