Oops we're full up again! Hope it's OK to start a new thread. Come on Jillian devotees, let's keep up the good work and the great results!

Morning all!

Notyummy I know what you mean about 6W6P. When I've done it, I have really felt it on my bum/legs/arms, and not so much on my core/tummy Hmm. Enjoy the rest day today!

I did BFBM yesterday all the way through - wow that is a bit of a sweat fest isn't it! I whole heartedly agree the second last circuit is a killer, and actually the last circuit too as it comes on the back of that second last one!

I like the kick boxing circuits but don't feel like I'm being really pushed, despite punching the air like a crazed woman Rocky...

On my Jillian menu today is good old Shred!

Hope everyone has a good day Smile

worldgonecrazy · 18/08/2011 09:02

Did L2 6W6P again this morning, at least the first round of it, then I switched back to L1. Really struggling to come up with replacement exercises for the lunges - does anyone think it worth writing to Jillian to ask her?

notyummy · 18/08/2011 09:08

It is tricky World as I guess the reason they are all in there is because they work the biggest muscles in the body (quads, gluts and hamstrings) and therefore burn the most calories. It could be worth goggling or looking on youtube, which has a lot of demonstration exercises, to see if snyone has any ideas. Can you do any squats/wide legged squats, or are all squats and lunges out? My knee makes a dodgy grinding noise when I squat, but I don't get pain. My sports physio says it is common and just to ignore - some people just have noisy joints. It is a bit off putting though!!

threestepsforward · 18/08/2011 09:31

Hi Worldgonecrazy, just a thought - how long have you been doing Jillian's stuff (ie. lots of lunges etc.)? And is it your knees that give you trouble?

My right knee was always bad, sometimes I couldn't even do thigh stretches without it being agony, but after doing the Jillian exercises regularly, and for quite a time now, it's really helped and I don't get any pain in that knee any more.

This may be completely wrong to your situation but just wanted to share my experience with the dodgy knee in case it helps Smile

Jacksterbear · 18/08/2011 10:26

Have great holidays knotty and notyummy.

3steps well done for getting all the way through BFBM! I did circuits 1-4 last night and actually did not find it too bad but had no time to do more.

Trying to summon up the energy to go to the gym at work today but soooo tired!

febes · 18/08/2011 10:34

I did BFBM this morning too. I love it. The move in the last circuit where you bring your knee up and twist your torso (the one before the jump rope) is so hard. I can do it now but I used to phone that one in a lot!!

'If you aren't uncomfortable you aren't working hard enough. This is not your mothers workout!!!!!' Favourite Jillian quote ever!

Does anyone else thinking that Selena phones it in quite a lot. Her butt kicks on the 3rd circuit are pretty relaxed Grin

worldgonecrazy · 18/08/2011 10:40

Hi threestep and notyummy, I've been doing Jillian for nearly 4 months, mostly doing the shredding (up to Level 3). The first week of shredding I did gentle lunges and ended up crippled, the pain was so excruciating every day life became painful and I had to take a few days off for my knees to recover. I concentrated very hard on getting the form right, not over extending the knee, keeping it behind the toe, etc.

I have come to the conclusion that my knees are knackered, it's not a question of strengthening them or loosening them, any stress on them causes pain. That's why I've been doing alternatives to the lunges for the shredding. Stationery lunges are okay, it's the moving ones that cause real pain.

I normally get twinges and discomfort every day, just doing stuff like walking down stairs. Exercising has only increased this, not made it better. I've written to Jillian to ask for advice, will let you know if she gets back to me. I'm sure I'm not the only person in the world with knackered knees.

Jacksterbear · 18/08/2011 11:12

worldgonecrazy that doesn't sound good. Hope you get an answer. Smile

notyummy · 18/08/2011 11:17

Yes, sounds like the lunges are a serious problem and avoiding them definitely sensible. You are right - there must be lots of people with dodgy knees.

threestepsforward · 18/08/2011 17:14

I love that 3rd circuit Febes!

Hope everyone is well. Did you find your va va voom for the gym Jacksterbear?

Worldgonecrazy I agree you should get some advice on your knees if the exercises are making them worse. What a nightmare, hope you can get it sorted or at least come up with alternatives that work for you.

Well the rain here has been un-be-leivable today. And then the power tripped so after failed attempts to restore it I called the electrician and he talked me through what to do on the phone, with no success. So I sat in the dark, not able to work, with no power for most of the afternoon. When he arrived he saw I'd flicked the circuit breaker switches on the right, when he'd told me to flick the ones on the left. Turns out I really can't tell my left from my right Blush Blush He was lovely about it and I now have power!

Will try and fit a Shred in later if I can.

Good evenings to all Smile

Jacksterbear · 18/08/2011 17:24

3steps yes just back from the gym, 40 mins on cross-trainer doing a circuit-style programme (with different speeds/resistances/arm work etc). Glad you have sorted the power issue!! Torrential rain + dark here too (at work - central London).

worldgonecrazy · 19/08/2011 08:47

I went back to 30 day shred this morning but swapped some of the exercises for the 6W6P, e.g. instead of walking plank push ups I did spider planks and plank twists, changed superman to the superman in 6W6P, and used weights for the pike.

Does anyone else find it impossible to do a sit up? I know my stomach muscles are strong enough to do it but there's something in my back which doesn't allow it to happen, it's like there's a block once I've raised my shoulders a foot of the floor.

threestepsforward · 19/08/2011 09:24

Nice one Jacksterbear Smile. Hope you didn't get caught in a deluge on your way home, it was unreal here yesterday (south coast).

Worldgone I used to have trouble with sit-ups as I've had lower back problems from time to time. I used to find it got me in my lower back when I did them (and other abs exercises). Now my stomach muscles have got stronger I can manage them. I think it was Jacksterbear who mentioned that you really have to squeeze your stomach muscles and picture pulling them down and in when you're doing the abs exercises. If I picture really squeezing them when doing sit ups I find my back is less likely to take the strain.

That may be no help to you at all, in which case sorry Grin

One more Jillian blast here today and then weekend off. Think I will be doing BFBM but we will see...

Hope everyone has a good day

threestepsforward · 19/08/2011 09:26

Ooo and happy holidays Knotty and Notyummy Smile

McPie · 19/08/2011 10:18

Im enjoying BFBM this week, its less intense than my shred madness of last week and find I work up a fair sweat. I am mainly doing 1,2,3 and 5 (doubling up most times) at the moment but plan on adding in the others gradually over the next week or so before I move onto 6W6P.
Scales are still not playing ball, but then they never do!!! I have kept away from the bloody things for months but cant stay away from them now Im trying to reduce my bulk, I think a removal of batteries is needed.
Kids go back on monday and it will be strange to have quiet in the house, well apart from the husband who's holidays start monday Angry can assure you he was not missed for that stunt and has been told after 7 weeks of constant kids, granny had then 1 sunday afternoon, at least she gave her son a break from his kids Hmm, I will be downing tools where kids are concerned Grin

VenetiaLanyon · 19/08/2011 12:25

Hi all, found you again :)

Back only temporarily from hols, and off again next week with Jillian packed in my luggage (although will also be indulging in "false message of lethargy" from time to time Grin). Will catch up in September; see you then all and happy summer shredding Smile

threestepsforward · 19/08/2011 17:54

Nice to 'see' you Venetia - hope you have a great time away Smile

BFBM done for the day and looking forward to a weekend off!

Hope everyone has a good one

worldgonecrazy · 20/08/2011 13:49

Wah (sort of!) I've just had a tattoo removal process started and I have to avoid heavy exercise for 10-14 days. Level 3 shred is going to kill me when I can start doing it again.

threestepsforward · 23/08/2011 16:54

Take it easy worldgonecrazy - does the removal process hurt?

I've pulled or strained something in my arm so am taking it easy with weights etc. for the time being. Did nothing over the weekend and have done BFBM today - will be sticking with that until arm is better as there are no weights.

Hope everyone's well Smile

worldgonecrazy · 24/08/2011 13:21

Yes it hurts, and only now am I finding the reviews that say it's a bad thing and most people get scarring - where was google hiding them this time last week?

Anyway, I've also ordered the quick fix Pilates 10 minute DVD too as I want to do something about my posture. My figure is looking good when it's all sucked in but as soon as I relax it disappears and I look like an apple.

threestepsforward · 25/08/2011 10:04

Ooo that sounds painful Worldgonecrazy, hope it all works out okay.

Good luck with the pilates to. I always do a 10 minute pilates stretch at the end of each workout and I'm sure it's beneficial...

Another BFBM yesterday and strained arm feels much better!

Off now for a long weekend and a wedding (not mine!).

Happy Jillian'ing all Grin

Threesteps x

Jacksterbear · 27/08/2011 21:12

Ouch worldgonecrazy hope the scarring isn't too bad!

Had a slightly-weird-but-complimentary-I-think moment today. Answered the doorbell halfway through shred L1, clad in sports crop/bra top and fitted knee length trackies (a la Jillian in L1!), delivery man looks slightly embarrassed to see sweat-soaked scantily clad lady, and says, "sorry to disturb your exercise, not that you look like you need to exercise", and then looks even more embarrassed. I just giggled and said "ooh no, thank you, I'm glad of the break actually". Quite embarrassed myself but in a pleased sort of way. Smile

worldgonecrazy · 27/08/2011 21:26

The tattoo is itching like mad but doesn't look like it's going to be scarred. Just waiting for the original stuff to fall off and desperately trying not to scratch/pick at scab.

Also itching to get back to my exercise as I have really let myself go this week - alcohol nearly every evening, cakes, biscuits and profiteroles!

threestepsforward · 28/08/2011 17:37

Grin Jacksterbear with the delivery man! I think that is most definitely a very lovely compliment. I'm just picturing what I look like mid-Jillian session - any delivery person would run a mile if I opened the door to them!

Worldgonecrazy you have eaten pretty much exactly what I have in the last 2 days, right down to the last profiterole! Feel like my sides may come undone like badly sewn seams so will be getting back down to Jillian next week. Wedding was lovely though, well worth the blow out!

Arm still bad unfortunately so will be steering clear of the weights for a while longer, which is annoying Angry

Enjoy the rest of the bank holiday everyone...

threestepsforward · 30/08/2011 20:08

Hello again, it's quiet here at the mo, hope everyone's doing well...

My arm still hurts so have done two BFBMs yesterday and today. What on earth could I have done to it?! It hurts sort of across the front. It doesn't hurt massively when I use weights, most of the time, but really does when I do push ups and similar.

Any ideas what the hell I've done to it lol?

Will stick with no weights until it's on the mend but it's frustrating...grr!!!

Off to watch Breakfast at Tiffanys which I recorded today. I can't believe I've never seen it! Have good evenings all...
