Thought I might take the liberty to start a new thread as can't seem to cram another post onto the old one and I have some positive news to start a new one with! :)

I have lost weight - almost as much as Jillian claims you will and have 2 days left!

------

Everyone is doing so well - putting me to shame with talk of Level 3 going on! Envy

Good Evening Lady!

I am on day 19/20-must check! So almost end of level 2 and have half enjoyed it!

Well done with your weight loss I am jealous! I have lost 3lb in the whole time whilst eating approx 1200 calories per day.... Is that too many/too few calories I wonder?

Am now 11.13 and lost a few inches too!

peanutsmuggler · 01/02/2011 20:50

Well done Ladyoftheflowers!

What are you planning on doing at the end of the 30 days?

I have lost 8lbs in 4 weeks, I haven't done the shred every day though, had to take a break due to dodgy knees.

FreeButtonBee · 01/02/2011 21:02

Great thread title!

Wow Lady - you certainly haven't been phoning it in at the gym!

I have only been doing it for a week but i feel stronger and trimmer as well. Not sure it's helping massively with weightloss yet but let's see where we are in another week or so.

mychildrenarebarmy · 01/02/2011 21:34

LadyOfTheFlowers You must have been working hard.

kkey21 I'm not an expert but I would say your body needs more fuel.

I have been going for 2 weeks and have lost 3lbs and 1 inch from waist. I haven't changed what I am eating.

JelliBelli · 02/02/2011 00:55

Lady have you lost the weight consistently?

I am on day 12 but only lost 2lbs, I've lost inches Grin but just wondering about the weight (desperately hoping it will come off in the second half of the shred).

javotte · 02/02/2011 08:21

I take this oportunity to thank you. I live in France and I'd never heard of the shred before. I'm on day 6 and already feeling stronger!

myflabberisgasted · 02/02/2011 08:50

Morning Everyone,

This will be day 3 of the shred for me! Even though I am still aching from the previous 2 days I will be doing my 20 minutes later.

Does anyone know that if I skip doing the shred at weekends it will be worse on the Monday morning starting again? (I mean aching / pain wise?)

fishie · 02/02/2011 09:00

i have plodded on with 3 days run / 2 shred / 1 run / 1 shred and not getting any lighter - still up 4 kilos although clothes fit ok, mysterious. shred is getting easier though.

i have found it far easier if i fold my mat thickly for the evil level 3 plank raise things, elbows and knuckles were really suffering otherwise.

maybe i need heavier weights. my shoulders are not screaming.

LostGirl · 02/02/2011 09:16

myflabber, if you have a rest over the weekend you will probably find that your muscles have time to recover properly and you will find that you hurt less after the shred on Monday. Don't be scared to take days off, it is good for the body to have a rest to rebuild and it takes longer than a couple of days for you to lose the fitness/strength that you have developed.

crapbarry · 02/02/2011 09:53

I've done 15 days of shred (over 20 days total) now!! my arms are so muscly, and I actually have stomach muscles Shock

I've lost 1/2 a stone in total, but that was in the 1st week, no change since then. however, the muscles are quite surprising, I don't think I'd ever had stomach muscles before. My jeans are definitely looser!

my ankles remain totally buggered - well, one of them. So I've slightly adjusted the workouts to avoid stressing that ankle - no jumping, basically. Am doing high knees, butt kicks, punching, and the skater move for any cardio, because jumping jacks and jump rope are agonising. I am still using food cans as weights [broke emoticon], but it's my birthday in a couple of weeks, so will get some proper hand weights then hopefully - any recommendations?

herbaceous · 02/02/2011 10:02

Ah good. Glad I can take a day off, LostGirl! I always feel lovely and strong in the morning, but doing the shred still totally wipes me out for about an hour afterwards!

Re weight, it's most mysterious. Since early Jan, I've been eating 1200 calories a day, or 1400 if I've been shredding. Roughly. This was based on MyFitnessPal telling me my average calorie expenditure was 1700 a day, so to lose a pound a week I needed to eat 500 less a day, or use it up in exercise.

In the first fortnight I lost five pounds, yet have lost no more. Even put some on. I do feel slimmer, but I WANT TO BE LIGHTER, DAMMIT! And to have no back fat.

LostGirl · 02/02/2011 10:53

That doesn't seem like many calories herbaceous. How tall are you and how active is your day to day life, if you don't mind me asking! Have you been getting hungry? You need to make sure that whatever changes you make in your diet they are sustainable long term. Often it can be best to make small changes step by step and then you can adjust accordingly when things plateau. It also helps to keep your metabolism up where as sudden low calories diets can course it to slow. Sorry, you have probably heard all this before.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 02/02/2011 11:26

Thanks all.

I have been losing consistently yes, but I have a lot to lose so it does come off quickly for me to begin with. I'm sure it will slow to a more normal rate once I approach a more normal weight. Blush

(I have lost 19lbs - 67 more to go!!)

This is usually the point I lose interest and go back to my old ways but with a summer holiday booked and being sure I want no more kids, I am going to do it this time. :o

I am also on a diet but initially I just stopped alcohol, bread and potatoes - that kick started things.

After Thursday I will probably just keep on shredding and when it arrives do my 'Biggest Loser Last Chance Workout' - looking forward to that - I need some more cardo to get general fat off all over my body.
I'm a pear so the love handles/backfat/collar bones/face/arms are looking better and bottom half of thighs, but saddlebags are bloody awful. Angry

Where is everyone else losing it and what body shape are you? This particularly interests me.

OP posts:
herbaceous · 02/02/2011 11:32

LostGirl I'm 5'8", and 'lightly active', I suppose. Usual toddler activities - up and down stairs, clambering through soft play tunnels, going to the shops, that kind of thing. Plus shredding!

Oddly, I haven't been getting hungry since I've been shredding!

I just seem to have a slow metabolism. If I eat 'normally', ie the same as I'm doing now but plus wine and biscuits, I put on weight.

Ladyflowers I'm a pear-y hourglass. My arms, collarbones and ribcage neck of the woods seem smaller, as do my calves and ankles. But I've still got a spare tyre and hefty buttocks!

BalloonSlayer · 02/02/2011 11:54

Wow LadyoftheFlowers well done!! Grin

Envy

Still no weight loss here. Confused

BUT, I measured my waist this morning and I breathed in really hard and I got it to 26"

And I can now see the bottom of my ribcage!

My body shape is average, I suppose. I do have very thin arms and legs (from the knee down) so maybe these are getting stronger.

myflabberisghasted I always take a break at weekends and it makes no real difference. I think it gives things time to recover too. But if I could shred at the weekends I would; it just doesn't seem to fit in with family life.

myflabberisgasted · 02/02/2011 12:36

Hi Everyone,

I have done day 3 of my shred and found some things even harder?! (thought it was going to get easier? Grin)

I found the squats harder (probably because I am still in aching phase after yesterdays workout!) and i found the push-ups even harder too.

Thanks LostGirl, you always give great advice... are you by any chance a personal trainer in real life?!

BalloonSlayer It's good to know I can have a few days off a week, that way I think it will keep me more motivated to keep doing it!

javotte · 02/02/2011 13:35

ladyoftheflowers I'm a pear too! My breastbone is poking through my skin, I can count my ribs if I stretch my arms up, but my thighs remain HUGE!

LadyOfTheFlowers · 02/02/2011 14:02

:o 'HUGE' made me PMSL!

Very top outside of mine are huge, it extends round from my butt cheeks which have shrunk Confused . Immediately above knee is not bad and quads are becoming visible - takes me back to my youth...! :)

Apparently, us pears hold onto the fat stored around the hips etc as our dominant glands are the ovaries - meaning our body is reluctant to give up this fat it stores as it stores it in case of pregnancy/lactation. Now, no matter how much I tell my wide arse and thighs that I am having NO MORE BABIES it refuses to budge and I know it will be the very last thing to improve, but I didn't bank on other things improving in such a way that make this area look worse!!

If this makes sense, I am reasonably thin looking from the side, but huge from the front or back - as if I have been run over by a steam roller...... sexy..... Hmm

pepperonipizza · 02/02/2011 14:18

Ladies, I need motivation. Day 8 level 1 completed this morning. Very tired after bad night with DS (8 months) and did not feel like it at all, but made myself. It was tough today! It is getting easier, and no achy muscles anymore, but I don't seem to be losing inches or weight. I have about 2 stone to lose. When will I see results?

Tell me it works!! I am exhausting myself every morning, need some reassurance it's not for nothing!

LostGirl · 02/02/2011 14:29

pepperonipizza it is as effective as 20 minutes of exercise can be and everyone will see different results as we hold our weight differently. Are you eating healthily as well because at the end of the day you cannot out exercise a bad diet unfortunately. Try not measuring at all for a couple of weeks, changes take time.

LadyoftheFlowers I am a pear as well, although that has slowly changed this last 6 months through weight training and now have more of an hourglass shape I suppose, but my thighs are definitely my fat spot and always the last place to show any changes.

Myflabber, no not a personal trainer, no qualifications in that line whatsoever but I do read alot about fitness etc in order to plan my workouts and achieve my goals.

sb6699 · 02/02/2011 14:44

Well done LOFT! I am a pear shape but have wide hip bones naturally so dont think that will change much but want to get rid of the saddle bags and muffin top.

My knees are feeling a bit better today so going to get back on it later. But also have a big blister on my heel from the new trainers DH bought me so will have to invest in some decent plasters first!

herbaceous · 02/02/2011 14:47

I'm toying with the idea of doing level 1 again today, instead of level 2, to reduce my levels of Jillian-hate back to manageable levels!

LostGirl · 02/02/2011 14:52

herbaceous try using this to work out your basal metabolic rate. If you then click on 'Daily calorie needs' it will tell you what to multiply it by to work out what the calories you need to maintain, it will be interesting to see if it gives you the same answer as the other site. I was advised to cut no more than 300 calories a day at first form this intial figure and wait a month/6 weeks to see how that worked and reassess from there. People are often advised to cut 500 calories simply because in theory it should equate to a 1lb weight loss over the week, but it doesn't appear to be that simple. I wasn't going to suggest boosting your calories with a glass of wine and a few biscuits I'm afraid Grin but maybe look at the breakdown of your food in relation to protein/carbs/fats. Make sure you are having enough lean protein and healthy fats as your body needs these, try and avoid all things processed and eat as many different veggies as you can.

herbaceous · 02/02/2011 15:05

Erk! According to that site, LG, I need 2045 cals a day to maintain my weight! I can't believe it... I'd have been hard pushed to eat 2000 calories a day, before diet, even with biscuits and wine! And yet I was still putting on weight.

Maybe I'm not 'lightly active', but in fact 'sedentary'!

LostGirl · 02/02/2011 15:56

What does it tell you you need for sedentary? Have you yo-yo dieted a lot in the past? If so that might have caused your metabolism to slow down a bit. Weight training and eating regularly throughout the day, and consistently week to week, can help to boost your metabolism. If you would struggle to eat 2000 calories a day even with wine and biscuits you must be eating very 'cleanly'. I could manage 2000 calories for breakfast when I have PMT Grin
