Thought I might take the liberty to start a new thread as can't seem to cram another post onto the old one and I have some positive news to start a new one with! :)

I have lost weight - almost as much as Jillian claims you will and have 2 days left!

------

Everyone is doing so well - putting me to shame with talk of Level 3 going on! Envy

Sedentary says 1700, which is what MyFitnessPal said for lightly active. Then again it is American, where 'lightly active' probably means walking to your car rather than going by golf buggy!

I haven't really yo-yo'd, no. A steady increase with age. With a distinct leap when I met DP and went from a typical evening being 'gym + soup for tea', to 'three-courses blow out with wine'.

I may be painting myself as something of a dietary paragon of virtue. I'd struggle to reach 2000 calories during the week, but a Saturday could be a different story, once cake, curry, ice cream and wine are factored in!

LostGirl · 02/02/2011 16:12

Are you seeing a difference in your body shape in the last month or since you started?

herbaceous · 02/02/2011 16:27

There is less of me, yes. Waist and ribcage smaller, but spare tyre still around. It is doing me good, and my jeans are looser, but I suppose I wanted to turn the clock back to being 10.5 stone, and fit, again. But maybe it's too late for that!

BalloonSlayer · 03/02/2011 08:21

I can report - when I view myself from the side - a new dent or crease on each side where my bum meets my thighs! I am hoping this is due to some sort of muscle definition that is starting.

MUM-OF-THREE'S JOY AT NEW ARSE CREASES

LostGirl · 03/02/2011 08:36

Grin congratulations, looking forward to more headlines like that.

herabaceous don't worry about what the scales say, as long as you are noticing changes then that is great. It is never too late to be fit again, I am fitter and slimmer than I have ever been though still weigh over a stone more than I did at my lightest Confused. Don't worry about your curry etc at the weekend, it is good to have a 'cheat' meal every week, something to do with giving your metabolism a kick or something, but still better to avoid sugar etc as your body doesn't need that at all. At least with a curry/pizza/burger/chinese takeaway you are still getting protein and carbs and things that actually fuel your body.

flatmouse · 03/02/2011 08:53

:-( Level 1 Day 6 yesterday and i've picked up an injury. So very frustrated.
I'm hoping it's nothing major - as i was doing first cycle of cardio, right calf hurt so i stopped. It felt like intense cramp deep within. I did the whole workout but substituted the punching for any further cardio, massaged it lots (hurt to stretch it) and took some ibuprofen.
It's still sore today although nowhere near as bad. (which is why i hope it was just cramp). I have previously hurt my calf before but that was different(about 2 years ago, first attempt at running and it pinged - have had physio etc on it and have run successfully since).

Debating as to whether to have complete rest today, or do day 7 but no impact cardio. (Slightly worried that if i stop i won't start again).

However, put a snug top on today and don't have the unsightly bulges that i would normally see - even in 6 days i'm sure i'm seeing a difference!

myflabberisgasted · 03/02/2011 08:58

Morning everyone!

And big news - I dont ache at all this morning! I was beginning to think this whole "you wont ache after 3 days" was a con but its true!!

I am going to day 4 later this afternoon and i'm looking forward to it!

I weighed myself yesterday and since I started on Monday I have lost 4lbs!! (I have also been eating healthier) so thats spurring me on to keep doing it!

crapbarry · 03/02/2011 09:43

flatmouse - I have injured my ankle, so am avoiding jumpy exercises for now - I'm still noticing a difference though! some of the cardio moves in level 2 are less high impact on the legs - I've found the skater move and the plank jacks (both beginners versions, I hasten to add!) good alternatives to jumping jacks and jump rope, which both knacker my ankle.

I only did half of level 1 yesterday (with 16 month old DS looking on aghast!) before getting a phone call from the estate agent that the sellers have totally pulled out from the house we were trying to buy, so that put a bit of a damper on the day. If I don't keel over with exhaustion by the end of today, I'll do level 2 again I think. I'm sure this would be easier if I got some sleep though!

herbaceous · 03/02/2011 09:49

Thanks LostGirl. And sorry for droning on. It is weird, though. I'm sure it's partly hormonal - last March, when I gave up breastfeeding, I suddenly lost about 10 pounds. It was great! I thought my metabolism had changed for good. But no. It's all come back.

Before the weekend I was 11st 12. I had a chinese Friday night, and some cake and some wine on Saturday. But still stayed below 2000 calories each day. By Monday I was 12 stone. How can eating 500 calories over my daily needs put on 2 pounds? Now back to 11st 12. I suppose if I just weighed myself once a week, it wouldn't look so bad!

javotte · 03/02/2011 10:12

herbaceous when I weighed myself every day I could lose or put on 5lbs in a day, without even having had a treat. Don't worry, it will come off.

fishie · 03/02/2011 10:14

jillian's got a bmr calculator somewhere on her site. i went for a run last night instead. funny it is much easier than shred.

LostGirl · 03/02/2011 10:36

herbaceous you would have had to consume an extra 7000 calories over the weekend to have put on 2lbs of fat. The 2lbs is most likely water retention as the salt in the chinese and the alcohol in the wine probably caused some dehydration so your body retained more water in case you were going to continue eating like that. When you had settled back to your normal eating pattern your body recognises it doesn't need to retain the extra water so gets rid of it... or something like that anyway. If you want to keep track of your weight I would really recommend just weighing yourself once a month, taking monthly photos if you can bear it is a good way to compare progress and it might reassure you that even if the scales have hardly moved you can still visually see a difference.

Just to reassure everyone, it is not the 'cardio' bits of the routine that are going to make you lose weight, the whole routine is designed to get your heart rate up and work you hard. I

herbaceous · 03/02/2011 10:45

I find my heart pounds through the whole of it!

By the way, has anyone else tried taking CLA? I did a few years ago, and it did really seem to help. Apparently it helps the body burn fat, and to store protein as muscle, rather than fat. It's a bit pricey, though...

falsemessageoflethargy · 03/02/2011 12:52

Hi all - I have gone back to doing level 1 as I get much more of a buzz from it and can now do it all properly whereas level 2 is a real effort - its so much more strength than level 1.

Am still loving it though Grin

herbaceous · 03/02/2011 13:35

I'm thinking of throwing the odd level one in too, just to mix it up a bit. Seriously naffed off with plank moves.

flatmouse · 03/02/2011 15:57

Level 1 day 7 completed. Decided Lostgirl comment re cardio means it's not the be-all and end-all, so i substituted the boxing cardio for jumping jacks, and the skipping rope cardio (which i could do without calf hurting) for the butt kicks. Feel pleased that i did do it and i've lasted the week (with a few extra exercise sessions added).

Tomorrow is my weigh-in, measure-in - although realistically i'm not expecting much in a week, i wanted to keep a record of my attempts!

Looking forward to level 2 in a few days - but somewhat dreading the planks as i'm none too good at them (although you can definitely feel you're working hard when doing them!).

Enjoying the support here. It helps.

herbaceous · 03/02/2011 16:09

flatmouse - planks are hideola, but get much easier. After doing level 2 for six or seven days, I've just done level one and found the press ups a piece of cake. Well, Anita-style!

southeastastra · 03/02/2011 16:54

i've got lost as to what day i'm on!

feel like i've been doing weeks of level 2 Grin still it's getting easier at last!

BalloonSlayer · 03/02/2011 17:34

Did Day 10 Level 2 today.

< timidly > might try level 3 tomorrow. < wince >

southeastastra · 03/02/2011 17:46

ah think i'm the same more or less as you, i was thinking of level three sunday

kkey21 · 03/02/2011 18:20

Me too-level 3 either tonight or tommorow eeeek!

Momentarynamechange · 03/02/2011 18:32

yay Ballonslayer and kkey21, do level 3, go on, do it do it Grin

I've been on level 3 since Monday and (whispers) it's really not that bad!

I honestly find it much much easier than level 2. I can't do the full pike thing, or the full press ups but am mixing it up between Anita and Nathalie and am not nearly as much of a mess afterwards as after level 2!

Got to watch all the lower back stuff though as I'm prone to lower back pain and I can feel it grumbling - think it's mainly from the superman stuff.

Haven't noticed any change for the last week or so though, just feeling a bit more butch... which wasn't quite the feel-good factor I was aiming for!

have fun shredders Smile

Momentarynamechange · 03/02/2011 18:34

and southeastastra (sorry, I didn't see you were contemplating level 3 too - must read properly and not skim read Blush)

Tanso · 03/02/2011 20:29

Hello ladies can I join?
This morning I did day 4 level 1 of the shred.I went for a huge walk today because it was actually sunny outside! feeling good tonight. I think my muscles are going to be ok tomorrow.

I really hope I can keep it up until the end (and continue after that as well)
Im also using Myfitness pal and I think it is excellent.

Strange question and I apologise in advance...
Since I started I have hardly done any poo. Ive been eating very healthily, drinking loads of water, eating a good amount. Normally Its an every day thing. Has anyone else had this problem??

notyummy · 03/02/2011 22:30

Hi all - sounds like everyone is doing fabulously. have we been watching Jillan being scary on the US Biggest Loser?? I watch it through my fingers as watching it makes me feel like one of the romans watching Christians being thrown to the lions. 'See the fat people cry and puke for your entertainment!!' DH did point out in response to this point that they were all volunteers and he rather thought the Christians in my example weren't.

He may have a point Grin
