I WILL lose a stone by Christmas - who is joining me?

thistimeiwilldoit · 27/09/2010 14:02

I've been putting off losing weight for too long - I've kept saying "Yes I'll have another chocolate/bag of crisps/Magnum Grin, and I'll start the diet tomorrow/Monday/next month"

But this time I'm going to do it. I've got zero willpower so I am counting on the wonderful world of Mumsnet for support!

Now for the facts:

I'm 5'8" and this morning I weighed in at 14st 5lb Shock!

Aged 17, I weighed 9st 3lb Sad. Now I'm not saying I want to go back to that, but I would be very happy with 11st 7lb, taking me into a healthy weight range, and 10st 10lb as my goal weight.

But for the time being, I just want to get out of the obese category Sad Blush.

ALL TIPS AND ADVICE WELCOME!

I'll join you on that one! I've got much more than 1 stone to lose, but if I can lose the first one by christmas I'll be a happy bunny Grin Of course the trick then will be not putting it all back on over the festive period!

I also have zero willpower and have been putting it off again and again.

What's your downfall do you think? Mine is reaching for the biscuit tin when I'm tired/bored/stressed.

bren66 · 27/09/2010 16:40

I'll join you both, please. I've got at least another stone to lose. My downfall is cakes and puddings. I'm not too bad with biscuits but... give me a slice of carrot cake and i'm in heaven!!! My best tip is to pile high your plate with vegetables (excluding potatoes) at meals times. It works wonders!!!

ppeatfruit · 27/09/2010 21:00

I'm on the Paul Mckenna thread and I can reccommend the diet, well it's more a way of eating; google his name with I Can Make You Thin and check it out. You can eat all yr fave foods and still loose!!!

CheeryCherry · 27/09/2010 21:18

Ok, am in!. Lost 2 stones at the start of the year, have loads more to lose, but a stone by Xmas would be just fine. (or maybe a few pounds more so I can scoff madly over the festive season!)
My problem is nibbling - my meals are healthy- but maybe the portions are too big. I know exactly what to do, its just sticking to it.
Lets go for it then! Will start on Oct 1st - DDS birthday on Weds so lots of cake, buns etc!!!

thistimeiwilldoit · 27/09/2010 21:37

Hello all Smile!

sapphireblue - my downfall is sitting down in front of the TV with sweets/chocs (DH always appears with a packet of peanut M&MsGrin), too many take-aways and convenience foods, huge portions and not enough exercise! I also tend to "reward" myself with food if I've had a bad day.

Anyway, I've been to the gym tonight - only did a few lengths of the pool and then hopped in the jacuzzi, but at least I wasn't lying on the sofa watching Corrie Grin!

I also went food shopping and bought loads and loads of veg, lentils, beans and rice and corn cakes.

Here are some tips that I picked up:

Substitute your pasta or potatoes for some sort of vegetables, eg. if you make a bolognese, instead of spaghetti, serve it on cooked shredded cabbage.

Drink hot water with lemon first thing in the morning to detox the liver and aid digestion.

Eat half an apple spread with peanut butter before you go to bed, it boosts your metabolism.

Oooh I am soooo in! Came on here hoping someone else was trying to kickstart today.

Have 2 stone to lose. Am only 5ft and have tiny frame so 2 stone represents alot of flab. (am 10.5 and aiming for 8.5 - was 7.5 15 years ago.......ho hum).

My specific problem is just about everything. I just cannot stop eating at the moment. Clothes I bought just a month ago are looking terrible.

Am going to do rough WW points counting - has worked for me before.

Come on everyone lets just bloody do it once and for all!

thistimeiwilldoit · 27/09/2010 21:44

CheeryCherry - well done on losing the 2 stone! - we'll see you back on the thread on the 1st!

Hello! Am in!

Size 16/18 and fed up. Need to lose about 3 stone. I eat when I'm bored, eat when I'm happy, eat when I'm sad... Hmm

My plan is NO SNACKING.

4andnotout · 27/09/2010 21:56

Me too!

I joined WeightWatchers last Thursday and tipped the scales at 16st5 and as I'm under 5ft I'm officially the size of a small African nation.

My problem is treating the family to takeaways and meals out, and I just adore foods and eat far too much!

I've stuck to my points really well so far and I'm really proud of myself, we have started taking the dd's swimming every Sunday and I'm starting aerobics on Monday, have stepped up the pace on my school runs too.

I'm aiming for my 5% and 10% losses and small goals as I would like to get to 11st.

maryfarquhar · 27/09/2010 22:02

Me too BB - probably worse because the past 2 months I basically eat if I am physically in a position to put food in my mouth. Was in a better place in the spring but then had a health scare and consciously decided I needed to eat crap as I was so down (like that would help!). But over the summer the health scare came to nothing but the eating has escalated. Boot camp is now required.

I have noticed people looking at me recently assessing my weight gain and DS1 has just told me I am a lovely fatty mummy. Am reaching a tipping point.

Congrats on the first 2 stone Cherry!

maryfarquhar · 27/09/2010 22:08

Good luck 4. How many points do you have a day ? Do you have any good tips yet ? I have done WW before and it is good as it lets you balance your eating throughout the day and see where your danger spots are.

For me it works to allow myself to eat very light meals all day and keep my points for a substantial evening meal.

At the heart of my problem is that I am an all or nothing type - one biscuit really does result in weeks of bingeing and I really don't know how to stop that. So for now Nothing it will be!

CheeryCherry · 27/09/2010 22:12

Thanks all, still much to do! Good luck everyone!

AspieGirl · 27/09/2010 22:23

I'm in if you've room for one more!!!

Hugs

4andnotout · 27/09/2010 22:34

I did WW about 7 years ago and lost 3 stone but then met dp and had 5 pregnancies in 5 years and piled it all back on (and more!)

My one tip is don't cut out something that you cannot give up entirely iykwim? For me it's cola, drink loads of it so instead of giving it up and being miserable I've switched to diet which is 0 points.

I have 24'points at the moment but I'm limiting myself to 22 a day and saving the extras for Saturdays when we take the dd's out and usually end up having lunch out. My problem is that I'm not keen on many vegetables but I'm going to mash swede, carrots and parsnip into the mash potato and hope I (and dd2) don't taste the difference!! I've also been saving a couple of points for a hot chocolate and a pair of WW cookies once the dd's are in bed and it's peaceful. Poundland have a huge range of WW foods at the moment so have stocked up.

woahthere · 27/09/2010 23:24

Im in! Im not sure what I weigh at the moment, have been having some success with South Beach diet but have been a bit lax the past 2 weeks but still my eating habits have changed and the weight seems to be coming off. Anyway, i need to stay focused and a stone seems doable and would make me a very happy 11 stone 8 ish i think. Main thing I need to keep doing is keeping up the exercise, walking distances every day as well as doing South Beach really seeems to shove my weight loss in the right direction. I will weigh in a week and let you know what my proper starting point is. Good luck all!

gingernutlover · 28/09/2010 07:05

I am aiming to lose just over a stone by xmas, which will bring my bmi to 26

I am using a hypnosis CD and having no rubbishy food in the house

thistimeiwilldoit · 28/09/2010 12:53

Hello all - good to see there are a few of us on here now!

Lets make Mondays the weigh in day. I always find if it's a Friday I tend to then stuff my face a bit on the weekend Blush.

I went for a 40 minute power walk this morning - I can highly recommend it! I purposely went on a really boring route so that I wasn't tempted to amble along looking at the scenery!

Breakfast I substituted my normal toast and butter for bran flakes with oat milk and a banana, and for lunch I had salad, pitta bread and houmous and then fruit salad.

I've had quite a bit of water too.

I'm feeling good ladies!

I read online last night about a woman who halved her size just by drinking the hot water and lemon in the morning and carrying on with a normal diet! It must be fresh lemon though - not "jif" Grin.

SuperLapin · 28/09/2010 13:00

I'll join you if you don't mind. I have about a stone to lose, don't know how much I weigh as don't possess a set of scales but last year's trousers don't fit on thighs and bum.

I have a very sedentary and boring job, work from home too, am single mum except for every second weekend so don't have time in evenings to go to gym and have an incredibly sweet tooth. So whenever work gets boring I grab a coffee and about five a couple of chocolate biscuits to go with it. I can do this lots of times in a day. I think with me it's just the snacking I do eat three healthy meals a day.

Any advice for not snacking when I'm bored I'd be very grateful.

thistimeiwilldoit · 28/09/2010 13:07

Hi SuperLapin - welcome!

My advice is not to stop snacking, but just choose a different option. For example, have a handful of chopped dates, nuts or banana chips. Take them to work with you so that you are not tempted by the biscuits. Oatcakes or an apple spread with some peanut butter are good too. Or if you really have to have a biscuit, buy the Weight Watchers ones that come in packs of two - because they come in a sealed packet, you are less likely to eat more.

Good luck - you can do it!

OP posts:
Chocamochalatte · 28/09/2010 13:10

Can I join too??

SuperLapin are you me??? Confused (apart from the work from home bit!!)

No scales here just know that my clothes no longer fit, reckon I have a stone to lose...

Would also like tips on not snacking as this is my biggest downfall.

MrsRhettButler · 28/09/2010 13:13

i'm doing the british heart institute 3 day diet.... it works amazingly you could visibly see a difference in 3 days!

i am doing 3 days a week every week until i am back to a size 10/12

it is easy to do cause you just think... 'its only 3 days'

maryfarquhar · 28/09/2010 13:21

Morning fellow stoners!

Today is day 1. My ambition was simply not to eat any crap today and doing ok so far. Had a bit of a danger moment before lunch as I got stuck at a hospital appointment for too long and was starving by the time I got home but kept it under control.

Hope everyone else is winning the willpower battle today.

kkey21 · 28/09/2010 13:25

I want to join as i keep saying 'oh next week', but that next week never comes.....

I neeeeeeeed some willpower, failing that someone to sit on my hand so i can't snack!

Also for me exercise is great but its finding time to do it, i do walk a fair bit but want to start having a run/swimming a few times a week.

I look forward to joining you all. x

encyclogirl · 28/09/2010 13:35

Can I also join in? I'm well on the way.

Got totally serious about 3 weeks ago and with the help of the lovely ladies on the "Nothing Tastes as good..." thread, I'm now down 5.5lbs.

I'm just not eating crap, drinking lots of water, getting real about my portion sizes and Yoga, yoga, yoga.

9lbs to go...

It's taken a year for me to get to this point where I can finally just do it. Good luck everyone!

thistimeiwilldoit · 28/09/2010 17:33

MrsRhettButler - I've done that a few times and it really does work - I once lost 12lbs in 3 days!

But for me I find that it always goes back on in the days inbetween and I do get a bit sick of the monotony of it.

It's a great diet for getting those last few lbs off though!
