I WILL lose a stone by Christmas - who is joining me?

I've been putting off losing weight for too long - I've kept saying "Yes I'll have another chocolate/bag of crisps/Magnum Grin, and I'll start the diet tomorrow/Monday/next month"

But this time I'm going to do it. I've got zero willpower so I am counting on the wonderful world of Mumsnet for support!

Now for the facts:

I'm 5'8" and this morning I weighed in at 14st 5lb Shock!

Aged 17, I weighed 9st 3lb Sad. Now I'm not saying I want to go back to that, but I would be very happy with 11st 7lb, taking me into a healthy weight range, and 10st 10lb as my goal weight.

But for the time being, I just want to get out of the obese category Sad Blush.

ALL TIPS AND ADVICE WELCOME!

God no! not giving up coffee completely, just trying to cut down a bit as i practically inhale the stuff Blush

The fennel tea is not just fennel it's got other stuff in too (Dr something-or-other slim tea that was on offer in tesco) and yeah actually not nasty at all, i prefer in to lemon and hot water anyway. I've got ginger/lemon ones too thistime but some foreign brand, but if you leave the bag in too long the ginger is sooooooo spicy Confused

woahthere · 08/10/2010 20:58

Helloo, joined you all then buggered off! Anyway, I weighed myself the other day and was a few pounds less than last time Id weighed which I was GOBSMACKED about considering we had a weekend away eating full english every day and continental as well, and lots of meals out. So anyway, I am now 12 stone 6lbs. I would like to lose a stone off this by Christmas...that would be amazing! Ive got a meal out this weekend and boozy night out after that but Im not going to start cancelling nights out now...I need them! But aside from that from Monday on Im going to knuckle down and be very strict on the South Beach diet. I think Im going to go back to the first 2 weeks and get back to my exercise...Ive just not had time for it lately!!

Do you all like the way I calmly said 12st 6 Im actually really happy about it....for so long I couldnt even break past the 13 stone barrier!!!!

thistimeiwilldoit · 08/10/2010 21:29

Hi woahthere - well done on the weight loss - it is always great when you can break through a barrier!

Well, even though I already have a gym membership that I never use , I have signed up for Zumba classes once a week! I have heard good things about this!

Also ordered the Jillian Michaels DVD.

Now wishing I could cancel the gym, but I paid upfront when I had a bit of a windfall, so I am tied in until next May....

On the downside, just had chicken vindaloo, pilau rice, onion bhajis, naan bread and 2 x glasses of red Sad.

I would love to join a gym but it's too expensive and too far away, one of the disadvantages of living in the sticks!!!
I've gone to bed early as the temptation of WW chocolates in the cupboards is getting too much, dp is working away tonight too so im toobores with no one to talk to!!

JustBeachy · 09/10/2010 06:49

Well done woah you must be Grin

Yesterday was good for me - apple and three small meatballs (yes children leftovers...must stop hoovering them up!) but a bit too much wine - no willpower there, that's why i'm going to try to not drink Sun to thurs, once i start the bottle's gone!!

Plan for today is:
30min run
B- Raspberry smoothie
L - at mum's, will be restrained, prob be salad/soup anyway
D- Pasta with meat ragu

Snacks - fruit

Am quite looking forward to X Factor tonight - is that really sad?

JustBeachy · 09/10/2010 06:50

Oh and i'm going to have hot water and lemon in a min - thanks for the tip Wink

4andnotout · 09/10/2010 08:27

I love the x factor and I'm actually a bit gutted that I will mis it tonight as we have a wedding reception to go to. Today I've had my favourite syrup pancakes for breakfast, the asda ones are only 2 points for 2 so that's better than Tesco's version. My friend said he will bring me a homemade chocolate mousse this afternoon so I can't refuse an offer like that, coupled with tonights hog roast and lager today will be a bad day for dieting! Might drag dp around the airfield later though and I'll be dancing all night at the reception.
Might get some fresh lemon in my next shop and try the hot water and lemon :)

thistimeiwilldoit · 09/10/2010 10:45

No Beachy not sad - I love X Factor too - the live auditions are my favourite bit because I think that's when you get to hear real music and see them all done up in their finery!

Didn't do the hot water and lemon today as my lovely DH always brings me a tea in bed on the weekends Smile.

Ooh 4 enjoy the wedding reception - I love a hog roast!

Glad i'm not alone with the X factor Grin Didn't Mary look amazing after her makeover?!

Yesterday was as planned but had HM curry for tea instead of pasta as DH decided to make it. Also a few forks of leftover kids spag bol and too much wine.

Today it will be
B: Cereal
L: Salad
D: Ragu pasta
...and NO WINE!!!

thistimeiwilldoit · 10/10/2010 17:04

Yes she did look amazing and her voice sounds amazing in that live environment. Looking forward to seeing who goes out tonight.

Surely home made curry is pretty healthy?

I had a salad for tea last night as I dropped my dinner on the floor!

And another salad today as we were out for lunch, but didn't really count as it was drenched in dressing! And had a few slices of DCs pizza!

Also I have decided that I will only book my hair cut and colour when I get to 10st7 - it already needs doing so hopefully this will keep me motivated otherwise I will have to go around looking like a total mess for even longer!

[ hopes that I can magically drop 7lbs in a fortnight by doing loads of exercise emoticon]

thistimeiwilldoit · 10/10/2010 20:56

Great idea beachy! I've already booked mine, but I think I might steal your idea for the next time.

Really looking forward to the Jillian Michaels DVD hopefully arriving this week so I can do a bit of daily exercise - hoping my toddler will enjoy joining in!

A1980 · 10/10/2010 21:58

I'll join. I'm 5ft 4ins and 10stone 10lbs
Aiming for 9st 7lbs

thistimeiwilldoit · 11/10/2010 09:26

Welcome A1980!

OMG ladies, weighed in this morning and was back at 14st5lb !!!!

Absolutely gutted - I thought I'd done ok this week with my cabbage soup and everything!

Also, I weighed myself on Friday and I was 14st2.5lb which would have been a loss of 1lb - how can I have put on 2.5lb over the weekend?????

Just means I'm going to have to work extra hard this week - need you all to keep me motivated!

How did everyone else get on at the weekend?

OP posts:
JustBeachy · 11/10/2010 10:44

My weekend was OK - too much wine at biggish evening meals but daytimes good. Could it be water retention? TOTM?

I got my 30 day shred DVD out this morn and did Level 1, I got up to day 10 before then stopped because my DD hurt her finger on my weights so I hid them away...but no more excuses!! It's quite fun actually...and I feel much happier than i did when i woke up this morning [grumpy monday emoticon]

I really need to sort my hair out so am going to be super diligent this week...fingers crossed!

mydadsdaughter · 11/10/2010 10:52

hello, haven't read all the threads yet but wondering wether theres room for one more, all the weight i lost last year with weightwatchers i have put back on but maybe i should dust down my points manual and start again.

4andnotout · 11/10/2010 12:07

Im dreading my weigh in on thursday after this weekend! I have been for my walk this morning and will do the circuit again this afternoon before picking dd's 1 &2 up. Dp has promised me a new pair of trainers at the weekend now that im doing more walking, my converse just arent up for the job!
We are booking a holiday in Wales for March next year for dd2's birthday and im aiming to have lost enough weight by then to be able to go into a mainstream shop and buy my clothes to wear there.

thistimeiwilldoit · 11/10/2010 14:01

Hi mydadsdaughter - yes there is always room for one more - welcome!

My Jillian Michaels 30 day shred DVD arrived today - I think I'll watch it today and see what it involves and then start tomorrow. I didn't realise you needed weights - do you need anything else for it JustBeachy?

OP posts:
JustBeachy · 11/10/2010 14:21

Just hand weights and a mat if you have hard floors - and some water!!

Curiousmama · 11/10/2010 14:32

I want to lose at least a stone. Am 5ft 8" and weight 12stone 9. I've been cutting down anyway the last few days.

I love healthy food it's just being 'aware' of what I eat. I think the Paul Mckenna idea is good...he goes on about conscious eating which is right. How many times do we just inhale food without really chewing and tasting it?

I've cut down portions and am chewing more. Also having skimmed milk and more veg/fruit.

I walk a lot with dcs and the dog but need to exercise more tbh.

Good luck everyone Smile

Easywriter · 11/10/2010 14:55

Can I join?
I'm 5 31/2" and in the obese category (around 15 9 the last time I weighed Blush). I have many stones to lose but one by Christmas would be lovely as I just can't get started and stay on track for even a whole day.

My weakness is snacking, I just can't seem to stop putting food in my mouth. Particularly in the evenings when the children are in bed.

I hate the fact that I can't fit into a dress that I wore happily when 8 months pregnant with DD3 (she's now 2.11). I need to do this for me.

4andnotout · 11/10/2010 16:27

easywriter I too am larger now than when I was pg with dd3, being pregnant with her is the only time that I have ever lost weight without dieting!

Just got back from walking the airfield again, this time I did it from school so that the dd's got a decent walk too, dd3 thought it was great as she took her trike which dd1 helped push and dd4 enjoyed the scenery from her pushchair :)

Have been well within my points today, 2 small syrup pancakes for breakfast, a prawn sandwich for lunch, a Weightwatchers chocolate bar for a snack and we are having pizza, jacket potatoes and salad for tea.

I'm going to scour eBay for some cheap workout dvd's :) will have to close the curtains though as we live on Te main road in the village and I don't want everyone to see me as a sweaty mess!

thistimeiwilldoit · 11/10/2010 16:27

Of course you can join in Easywriter! I am the same - I have more than one stone to lose, but I think that once you get going it is much easier. I am at the heaviest I've ever been and I've never been in the position where I'm having to lose more than about one stone, so I am finding it both difficult and daunting.

On the plus side, I used to eat quite a bit of chocolate on a daily basis, but I've had a Cadbury's Twirl in the fridge since Friday and I haven't touched it. It normally would have been eaten before finding it's way into the fridge!

I think if you look at in terms of changing your eating habits, rather than having to eat less, it is much easier.

I am finding that you can really fill up on vegetables, so you just don't have room for any chocolate/crisps etc.

Perhaps try snacking on raw carrots with a houmous dip, or dried fruit such as dates?

OP posts:
JustBeachy · 11/10/2010 19:36

Having a really good day - 3 ryvita and cream cheese with cucumber for lunch, strawbs and carrot snacks. Dinner is cooking - curried veg soup with fried onion and a flat bread.

Am hoping I can keep it up and shred every day too - I find weekdays SO much easier than weekends Hmm

thistimeiwilldoit · 11/10/2010 21:46

Well I watched the Shred.

I am excited about it, but also somewhat nervous about the effect that all the jumping will have on my rather weak pelvic floor!

I will be off to get the weights tomorrow morning and then hopefully start it tomorrow afternoon.

I think the weight gain must be water retention/TOTM - everything DH is doing is annoying me so that is a sure sign that AF is on it's way!! Grin!
