I WILL lose a stone by Christmas - who is joining me?

I've been putting off losing weight for too long - I've kept saying "Yes I'll have another chocolate/bag of crisps/Magnum Grin, and I'll start the diet tomorrow/Monday/next month"

But this time I'm going to do it. I've got zero willpower so I am counting on the wonderful world of Mumsnet for support!

Now for the facts:

I'm 5'8" and this morning I weighed in at 14st 5lb Shock!

Aged 17, I weighed 9st 3lb Sad. Now I'm not saying I want to go back to that, but I would be very happy with 11st 7lb, taking me into a healthy weight range, and 10st 10lb as my goal weight.

But for the time being, I just want to get out of the obese category Sad Blush.

ALL TIPS AND ADVICE WELCOME!

Well done! 1.5 Off is a good result!

I've been for 2x 30 minutes brisk walk (about 1mile each) this morning (dragged dp along!) and have another mile to walk this afternoon when i collects dd's 1&2 from school.

Will be having chicken stir fry this evening, i have noticed that dd1 is already looking less plump around the middle which is just down to healthier eating and less takeaways so i'm really pleased, her winter coat fits so much better on her waist now and she looks a lot healthier.

desiretochange · 04/10/2010 15:20

Can I join too? Not sure of exact weight at minute but don't think I would be too far off the mark if I said I have about 3 stone to lose! Like others I think that if I lose a stone by Christmas that will give me the kick up the backside I need to lose the rest of excess weight.

SMummyS · 04/10/2010 15:23

Can I join please. I've list 13lb in 6 weeks but I'm stuck now and need some more motivation. I want to get down to 130lb

desiretochange · 04/10/2010 15:38

Meant to say will weigh myself tomorrow evening in friend's house and post my weight on Wednesday morning! Tomorrow is my start date.

thistimeiwilldoit · 04/10/2010 16:00

Hello and welcome to all newcomers!

4andnotout - well done on the walking - I really think that if you can go at a steady fast pace it can be really effective in calorie burning as well as working your booty!

Thank you for the welcome thistime, going to start off tomorrow by drinking hot water and lemon and going for brisk walk before work, maybe if I start the day off right it will inspire me to continue in same style Hmm

4andnotout · 04/10/2010 20:24

My friend has asked me to go for a wlk with her in the morning ....at 6.16 Shock I'll probably turn up in my nighty!

desiretochange · 05/10/2010 10:26

Morning everyone, 4andnotout did you get to go for your walk?, I had a rotten nights sleep and got up too late to go for a walk before work, but had boiled water and lemon first thing so at least that part worked out for me:)

4andnotout · 05/10/2010 10:39

4andnotout · 06/10/2010 20:02

Eek weigh in tomorrow, had a bad weekend so hope I didn't put it back on! Going to a wedding on Saturday so will be off the diet for a day, I can't miss the hog roast!

4andnotout · 07/10/2010 14:21

I was weighed this morning, I've lost another 2.5 lbs so I'm very pleased, I'm 16st exactly now so that's my first goal met. My next goal is 15s8lb which will be 5% of my body weight lost.

WizzyWoo · 07/10/2010 22:49

Can I waddle come and join this group please? I'm 5'8, 15st 8lb Shock and heaviest I've ever been. After having DC2 in November 09, I managed to lose 3 stone and was pretty happy with myself. Unfortunately I'm a comfort eater and after my mum died earlier this year, I've been comfort eating like there's no tomorrow.

My DH works away and I have no one to look after the kids for me to go to something like WW (plus have no money since coming to end of year's maternity leave) so I'd love to join this group for some moral support. Congratulations to all of you who have lost weight so far, I hope your willpower rubs off on me (and fingers crossed Paul McKenna really CAN make me thin if I keep listening to him on my iPod...) Grin

JustBeachy · 08/10/2010 10:02

Can I join too? I'm 11st1 and want to be 10st by Christmas (or sooner if possible!!) My downfalls are wine, biscuits and too big portions Sad

I have started well today with a 35min run around the park and a raspberry smoothie for breakfast...I CAN do this!!

4andnotout · 08/10/2010 10:23

Hi Wizzy and Just :)

Have been for my brisk walk this morning, dd4 is still asleep in the pushchair so have done all my housework in a rather energetic fashion :)

thistimeiwilldoit · 08/10/2010 11:07

Hello and welcome to WizzyWoo and JustBeachy Smile.

And well done 4 - that is amazing!

I've been lurking but haven't posted recently as I namechange for this, and find it a bit of a faff (and dangerousGrin!), to keep namechanging!

I haven't been as good this week I must admitBlush.

DS has not been too well and has been sleeping terribly so I've not been in the greatest of moods and I have been too exhausted for the gym.

I did make a delicious soup last night out of cabbage, courgette and lentils - sounds disgusting I know, but I spiced it up with a bit of garlic, chilli, pepper and turmeric - I had two bowls for dinner!

I did randomly buy a wedge of brie the other day though, which is now half eaten.......

Anyway I am looking forward to a positive weekend - did the hot water and lemon for the first time this morning, as before now I was unable to tear myself away from my lovely tea!

We will do it ladies!!!

Also I am thinking of ordering the Jillian Michaels DVD this afternoon so I will let you know how I get on. I'm not sure but I think you only need to do 20 minutes a day - even I must be able to manage that!!

Have been drinking my boiled water and lemon first thing in morning for last 4 days but have still not managed to get my arse in gear for walking, printed weeks suggested menu from SW and going to try that for this week to see if it shifts anything, although bit of a disastrous start this morning as made a complete mess of poaching egg and bought raspberries on way into work and when I went to eat one they were all flipping blue moulded :(

4andnotout · 08/10/2010 11:35

They had an exercise DVD for sale at my WW meeting, it was only £5 so I think I'll get it next week, I'm going to try and save for a wii fit too as I've heard good things about them.
What's this hot water and lemon all about then?

desiretochange · 08/10/2010 12:13

Apparently it's a great start to the day and helps flush out your system:)

thistimeiwilldoit · 08/10/2010 12:34

4 - I have a Wii fit and I think it's been used about 5 times.........might get it on around the festive period though!

I think the idea of the hot water and lemon is that you drink it first thing in the morning and it sort of cleans out your system (the body's equivalent of hot, soapy water!).

Ideally you are supposed to drink it as soon as you get up, then do some sort of exercise to get it moving and then eat about 1 hour later.

I must say that when I was at my very lightest (size 8-10), I used to drink hot water all the time instead of tea or coffee - a coincidence? I think not!

It must be fresh lemon, and the water must be hot (obviously let it cool down slightly before drinking!!).

I think you would need to do it for a minimum of 2 weeks to see results though.

Thanks for the welcome Smile I had lentil soup for lunch and am planning fish, new pots and veg for tea. Will have wine but have bought fizzy water to do half and halfs with. I'm going to try and just drink wine on Fri and Sat unless it's an occasion...I think that will really help me drop the pounds!

I bought some fennel tea too which is quite nice and supposed to suppress appetite because i am a coffee addict and need to swap to something that does not go with biscuits!

desiretochange · 08/10/2010 12:38

Coffee addict here too JustBeachy, have you cut it out completely? Do you really enjoy fennel tea, am interested because can't imagine it working as a replacement for coffee Hmm

thistimeiwilldoit · 08/10/2010 12:44

Hi again Beachy and well done today!

I've tried fennel tea - it's erm, interesting..... Grin! But very very good for you!

One tea that I love is Twinings Lemon and Ginger. The ginger makes it lovely and spicy, and I'm sure the lemon helps in the same way as the hot water and lemon trick. It is lovely and warming in the winter, and really soothing if you have a touch of the flu.

I love coffee too, but i can interchange it with tea. I could cut out one or the other, but not sure I could do both at the same time.

Interestingly though, I did cut both out for a few days a while back and I felt much more relaxed, and had lots more energy. I just could not do it indefinitely!

A girl has got to have her cappuccino!
