I WILL lose a stone by Christmas - who is joining me?

I've been putting off losing weight for too long - I've kept saying "Yes I'll have another chocolate/bag of crisps/Magnum Grin, and I'll start the diet tomorrow/Monday/next month"

But this time I'm going to do it. I've got zero willpower so I am counting on the wonderful world of Mumsnet for support!

Now for the facts:

I'm 5'8" and this morning I weighed in at 14st 5lb Shock!

Aged 17, I weighed 9st 3lb Sad. Now I'm not saying I want to go back to that, but I would be very happy with 11st 7lb, taking me into a healthy weight range, and 10st 10lb as my goal weight.

But for the time being, I just want to get out of the obese category Sad Blush.

ALL TIPS AND ADVICE WELCOME!

Hello all fellow stoners!
Having just made the resolution to loose a stone before crimbo I thought I'd check on MN for a relavent thread and Hey Presto!

I'm 5ft7" and weigh 10.7 stone. I want to be 9.7stone.

I'm a secret snacker and eat when bored or tired.

Pretty good on portion sizes and meal choices but go a little wild at the weekends which probably undos all my efforts in the week.

Have switched to dark chocolate. Love Green & Blacks. Can satisfy the choccy craving with 2 squares of that a night.

Going to get some Splenda to go in tea as find a hot drink will satisfy my hunger mid morning and pm.

2 lbs a week loss to do it in time.

Imagine the new clothes we can buy and how good we'll look on the christmas photos!

AuntFlosAssassin · 21/10/2010 11:37

Hi everyone Smile. Can I join in? My goal weight is 11st 10lb and I am currently 13st 12 Blush. I lost 22lb on weightwatchers from sept 09 to august 2010 but have put 6lb of that back on. I would love to lose another stone by xmas! Im stil using ww points system but not going to the classes this time. I find it realy hard to exercise cause im too tired by the time I get home from work [hgrin]

thistimeiwilldoit · 21/10/2010 13:00

Hi AFA - welcome! Totally with you on the too tired for exercise thing. Is there any way you can incorporate some exercise into your day - such as walking faster, walking to the next bus stop/train station etc? Or going for a power walk in your lunch break?

Well I honestly may as well just leave the thread Grin.

Sat on sofa all day yesterday due to leg injury, and can't do any exercise for same reason.

Then lovely lovely DH went and got us a Thai take away and 2 x giant bars Dairy Milk Grin Shock.

So this week may as well just be a write off - I'll still lurk and post and hopefully get back into it once I've stopped hobbling!

Tobermory - Zumba is great - it's a sort of latin american dance class with lots of Shakira style movements. Have a look for a class online - they often do a free taster class to see if you like it.

tober you are doing so well! Im jealous! Lol

4andnotout · 21/10/2010 20:46

AFA I really like WW as I need to be very strict with myself as I have a lot to lose, it's slow going but I'm hoping it's a complete way of life rather than a diet. The dd's are looking much healthier as we have cut takeaways down to once a week. DD1 was on the plump side and cutting down her snacking on crisps and chocolate and switching to
Fruit, rice cakes, oat bars etc has really improved her diet an her school uniform fits much better now. Mil is being a complete bitch about it all though Hmm complaining that it's cruel to cut down sweets etc, dp pointed out that he had a heart attack at 37 and that by trying to encourage them to live healthily it may prevent the same happening to them.

Tobermory · 21/10/2010 21:32

AFA, this good stretch is a first for me, I normally have little if any will power. This time though it just feels different, v different. I am determined to get to my first goal to lose another (don't know if I dare type it!) 22lb. By Christmas if I can.

Then a bit more to my final goal. Which seems really quite far away right now. Haven't been my goal weight for about 15 years!

But I think I will think of some rewards

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 21/10/2010 21:48

hi all, just thought i would pop in, have been reasonably goodish this week food wise but not much exercise. Weather has been lousy and not conducive to power walks! Hopefully more next week when ds back at pre-school.

Zumba is ace i really want to go again, may have to try to find a class that time suits better.

JustBeachy · 22/10/2010 10:18

I have a rotten cold and TOTM coming up and half term so I think on balance I will be relaxing diet/exercise and will get back on the wagon a week monday when the kids go back to school! See you then!

lushlady · 22/10/2010 19:27

I'm new on here but this is just the motivation I need to get my butt off the sofa and lose some serious weight. I'm in!

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 23/10/2010 23:33

hi ladies, well at my saturday weighin today i have lost a pound this week, so now at exactly 11 stone. slow but steady it seems!

and i've found another zumba class and booked it for later this week! yippee!

planning more walking this week as ds back at pre-school (half term earlier here in scotland) and try to be really good and hopefully crack into the 10stone something range for the first time in, oh, lord, ages!

4andnotout · 24/10/2010 12:29

I've had a very bad weekend, got very drunk on friday night and think i ate two bars of wholenut chocolate, that and the 5 pints of grolsch. I'm back in the saddle today though, and didnt actualy eat a lot yesterday due to a horrendous hangover.

Tobermory · 25/10/2010 17:00

I too fell off the wagon and really cross with myself. Vodka and lots of bread on Saturday. Went for Sunday lunch at MIL, they don't do small portions or believe in diets so despite me ssinf for small portions got a mountain. I didn't eat it all bit did have a fairly mahoosive piece of the chocolate pie condition that was pudding. Then had an ice cream in the evening. This fall off the wagon feels huge though writing it down makes me think notso, but still v annoying after I was doing so well, on Friday spent the day surrounded by sweeties, puddings and chocolate biscuits and didn't have a thing!

If I'm back to being v good, how long wlll it take to even out my blip? Didnt dare stand on the scales this morning!

I'm a bit late getting on board but I was hoping I could join?

I'm not having much luck with getting back in shape after baby2, not helped with ongoing problems related to SPD. I looked disappointingly chubby in recent photos of my brother's wedding and know if I don't shift the weight now, I never will.

Me:

5" 5' ish
33, almost 34
13st 10lbs

I was 12st 10lbs when i fell pregnant with baby2, so that gives me a stone to lose by Christmas, and then I'll work on the rest. I'd settle for being a size 16 again quite frankly Grin

First task: eat less!

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 26/10/2010 00:16

i heard on the radio about it being Little Black Dress Day too, two months to go ladies!

but its actually only 7 weeks till my big xmas night out dinner and dance so even less time to get down to my target! eeek!

Tobermory · 26/10/2010 13:58

2 months?
Hmmm, I'm doing really well but may need to revise my Christmas goal slightly. Maybe the number I thought of was a teeny bit unrealistic?!

Good news for me this morning, despite MIL pudding my numbers have gone down. Just over 11lb loss, which has also changed my BMI and dropped me into the next bsnd. Never thought I would b pleased to see the word 'overweight' applied to me!

CountValiummwahahaha · 26/10/2010 20:53

Hurrah and well done Tobermory!! I just need to remeber I'm on the wagon!

Tobermory · 26/10/2010 21:45

I normally spent more time off the wagon than on it!

woahthere · 26/10/2010 22:00

Hello all, I need a big kick up the arse please. I got lots of compliments this weekend from family this weekend but I can just feel myslef slipping back...I ate 6 chocolate chip cakes today! Thats really bad and naughty! The rest of the day I was a perfect angel, but still. Actually thats a big fat lie, I just remombered I had a dairy milk after an argument with my ex....emotional eater me...NOOO. What can i do, what shall i eat tomorrow...low carb

CountValiummwahahaha · 26/10/2010 22:28

dairy milk is nothing: do you know how easily snack packs of mini-smarties are to eat?

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 27/10/2010 23:13

well done tobermory! that's a real achievement! all the diet stuff ive read says 1-2 lbs a week is sensible and sustainable, so i might just make another half stone before xmas dress needs to be purchased!.

some people lose a bit more in the first few weeks due to water loss etc but then plateau for a bit until metabolism adjusts. think i have definitely plateau'd!! hope zumba tomorrow kickstarts things again!

its a shame its dark so early now, i've given up my evening walks in favour of the sofa and a coffee! trying to replace with morning walks after dropping ds at pre-school, but have had lots of appts/errands this week and been in car not on foot!

4andnotout · 28/10/2010 10:56

Well done Tobermory!

My weigh in didn't go so well,
I put on a pound, back on the wagon and going to be firm with myself now. Not walking to and from school this week hasn't helped.
