Do you tell others that your weight loss is due to the jabs?

I have lost 1st 4lbs- about 10% of my body weight. Today someone actually noticed and commented on it. It was our lovely cleaner at work. She asked me how and so I told her. I expect as I lose more, I'll get asked this question more.

Do you just tell people the truth? I'm inclined to but not 100% sure as I want to see how I go with it long term.

What do you tell people? I think most people who have lost a lot of weight in the last couple of years will have used the jabs.
Also I'm generally an open person. So I'm not sure why I'm feeling reluctant to be evasive.

I’ve told everyone in my private life, friends, family and loose acquaintances. I told no one at work, I don’t wish to be gossiped about and I’m quite senior, so I don’t engage at all

however im fully educated on the meds, so am able to knowledgebly and credibly bat away any negative comments, more important when I started a couple of years ago than now.

ScaramoucheCanYouDoTheFandango · 03/09/2026 22:10

Inner circle (dh, adult ds, adult niece, best friend) and hairdresser only.

I haven’t told my own siblings, friends or colleagues. I haven’t found it necessary. If someone mentions my significant weight loss I’ll thank them, maybe make a comment about it being long overdue or that it took a while, then move the conversation on.

SilenceInside · 03/09/2026 22:10

Nope. I don’t share information like that in general, I don’t discuss my health, my weight, my diet in any way with anyone apart from my DP. I have lost 11st and occasionally some people feel the need to comment and ask how. I usually respond with some comment about being in a long term calorie deficit and then state that I find it all a bit boring to discuss and then move the conversation on.

Ineedanewsofa · 03/09/2026 22:14

If it’s a general “you look great/you’ve lost a lot of weight” type comment then I’ll smile and nod and move the conversation on.
If they ask directly then I’m honest, I’m not ashamed of it and if they judge me then that says more about them than me. Often I find people want to do it themselves but are afraid for whatever reason so are really keen to chat about my experience

SometimesThingsHappen · 03/09/2026 22:17

I've told friends that I trust and my sisters and husband. Both my sisters and 2 friends have subsequently tried GLP1s.

I haven't told anyone at work. I also haven't told friends who might judge or who don't struggle with their weight.

I have also become incredibly dedicated to the gym, so that gives a credible reason for the weight loss.

pyjamalife · 03/09/2026 22:18

I've had people ask me, I've walked away then wondered if they were fishing about WLI (not used them) and just wished they would ask if that's what they thought.

Although I wouldn't use them myself for reasons, I always commend people who are honest about WLI/gastric band etc. I think it's great to acknowledge what was successful for you (if comfortable sharing) to help others who may struggle. But it's definitely a personal choice if you share, same as anything medical.

BreezyClouds · 03/09/2026 22:20

I'm an off license user, only 1.5 stone to lose which is gone. People comment that I look good but no one has actually mentioned my weight, I'm back where I was for most of my life so perhaps it isn't obvious.

DH and best friend know.

If anyone asked I would tell them. Saying 'eating less' would be dishonest in my case because I can eat more on the wli (think weight gain was due to peri inflammation). It's really proven that 'eat less move more' is not always the solution.

MJqueen · 03/09/2026 22:23

Depends entirely on who has asked - I don’t tell people I think will judge or gossip, but with others I’m happy to be open.

I was a very early adopter and started taking them in March 2024, have lost around 50kg in total. I don’t think I’ll ever fully come off them.

I’m sure there are plenty of people who assumed and good for them. What others think about me is none of my business and all that!

I’ve also overheard so many incorrect and ignorant comments and assumptions from some people and I can’t be bothered being the one to educate.

Go with your (shrinking!) gut!

EverytimeItPours · 03/09/2026 22:23

I’ve had a close friend for 40 years who has lost about 5 dress sizes this year and is telling me she’s started eating better. Despite her being on a diet for the whole time I’ve known her and never losing weight. I’d bet everything I own that she’s doing wli and I’m really happy for her but deep down I am upset that she’s not being honest with me about it. I know it’s her business but I can’t help it. We’re normally very honest and open with each other

Elfie23 · 03/09/2026 22:32

I just told people yep I’m on MJ it’s great for me.
To start with it felt like I had to keep it a secret, like people were judging me. It was actually someone who has been slim their whole life who commented and said wow you look great and I just went yeah MJ is great - after that I had no issue telling people, and realised I don’t care what they think as it’s my choice x

Oooono · 03/09/2026 22:33

I haven’t told anyone I have restarted MJ . I stopped it for a few months and 2kgs have crept back on . This is now my secret and only the dog knows 😂

LaurieFairyCake · 03/09/2026 22:44

DH, sister, best mate. Would never tell anyone else. I’ve actually made a lot of friends in last couple of years and don’t really have any now that knew me overweight. It’s lovely to never have to talk about it.

MakeItUpAgain · 03/09/2026 22:47

No. I’ve told my immediate family but so many people are totally uninformed and have ridiculous attitudes to wli, I just can’t be bothered discussing it with anyone else.

In a few years hopefully most people will have moved on from throwing their arms up in horror at the idea of people taking a medicine to cure a serious and life-shortening disease, but until then I just don’t have the energy or motivation to try to educate people.

I would be honest with any obese person who seemed genuinely interested and open-minded about wli as it might be of help to them.

MakeItUpAgain · 03/09/2026 22:49

Just to clarify, I’m not evasive if people ask. I just lie.

Does your friend know you are positive about WLIs? Even if she does, perhaps she just can’t be bothered discussing it with anyone. I don’t think you should take it personally or think it’s a reflection on your friendship.

wendywoopywoo222 · 03/09/2026 23:11

I’m happy to tell anyone who asks and share my posative experiences. Have a couple of overweight freinds who have been negative, Apparently I’m cheating and they would never do them as they are so dangerous. Im very careful with portion control and do a lot of exercise where I struggled to walk far before and have lost nearly half my body weight. I don’t mind the criticism. They are entitled to have their misguided opinions.

AutoImmune2 · 03/09/2026 23:15

Yeah I’m happy to share, it’s not something I find I need to keep private, I’m happy to talk about it if people ask or want to know more.

Proteinpudding · 03/09/2026 23:29

No one has asked me, though I don't have lots to lose and people know I do sports and weights so they'd probably assume it's related to that. If someone asked me directly I'd probably be honest - I've done it by eating like a child, around 1200-1300 calories a day, and the only way I could do that consistently was to use WLI (I'm short, and have a desk job so alas my calories to lose weight are low, even with the sport hobbies!)

I have a few friends who are slim but work hard at it, and have reasons they need to stay slim (athletes basically) so I'd be more inclined to tell them if they brought it up because I wouldn't want them to feel any negative comparisons.

Yikes101 · 03/09/2026 23:30

I do usually if someone asks, especially if they might be thinking of taking it too. There’s 2 people I haven’t told when they asked, a neighbour who I think would be judgmental and a family member who I know would tell everyone they spoke to and also talk to me about nothing else. I told them calorie counting which is also true,

wheresthesnowgone · 04/09/2026 00:14

Yes, if anyone notices I've lost weight and wants to know how I'll tell them. Some are genuinely interested to know how it's going, some are unsure if I'm doing the right thing. I'm only interested in my clinician's advice and am very satisfied with my progress.

workshy46 · 04/09/2026 00:19

Fi would never ask someone but tbh I just assume now if someone has lost weight they are on the jabs

SilenceInside · 04/09/2026 00:21

@workshy46 and what do you say when people ask you how you’ve lost weight?

amusedpyjamas · 04/09/2026 00:22

Started on wegovy pills last week and haven’t told anyone, even DH. I’m not sure why really, he’d be supportive (if a little concerned until he’d found out more about it). I don’t know what I’ll do if and when the weight loss becomes obvious, I have been eating better and exercising and have previously lost weight so maybe will just assume it’s that. Or maybe I’ll tell him sooner. I don’t like the secret, I feel uncomfortable with it. I have just over 2 stone to reach my goal so it’s not going to be the most dramatic weight loss ever, and I don’t know what will say to other people if they comment.

aniloD · 04/09/2026 01:17

I did.

DBatteryBand · 04/09/2026 06:20

I tell everyone who will listen! I’ve lost 8 stone, it’s bloody miraculous stuff and I’m not ashamed of using it. I don’t bang on about it though, I usually change the subject quickly to more interesting things but I am always happy to answer questions.
