Do you tell others that your weight loss is due to the jabs?

I have lost 1st 4lbs- about 10% of my body weight. Today someone actually noticed and commented on it. It was our lovely cleaner at work. She asked me how and so I told her. I expect as I lose more, I'll get asked this question more.

Do you just tell people the truth? I'm inclined to but not 100% sure as I want to see how I go with it long term.

What do you tell people? I think most people who have lost a lot of weight in the last couple of years will have used the jabs.
Also I'm generally an open person. So I'm not sure why I'm feeling reluctant to be evasive.

I've been on them since June 2024 and have lost nearly 9 stone. At the start I was planning to be honest but the first two people I told were awful. One accused me of cheating and the other one sneered and said "well I am doing it the hard way". That particularly stung because I am still working out at least 5 days a week and staying under 1300 calories and prioritising protein and fibre goals etc - so it's not like MJ is miraculously melting my obesity away like everyone thinks it is. MJ just makes the latter a bit easier. Like a PP I also CBA with the comments about side effects / how it's a new and untested drug / I'll die of pancreatitis. Now I only say I am on them if I am specifically asked. So I don't talk about it but I won't lie.

Sometimes I think it's a shame because there's another story to tell. For the first time in my adult life I don't have rampant inflammation in my body. I have three autoimmune immune conditions that MJ has dramatically improved, including one that was flaring up every 6-8 weeks and required near constant steroids. That condition hasn't flared up since I started. I wish I could explain how life changing this drug is for me but I can't be bothered with the level of stupid I will undoubtedly encounter so it remains unsaid.

Face looks different on jab, doesn't matter you lost 20 or 70kg. You can disagree, but lots of people notice it too.

You know this is literally confirmation bias right? You absolutely cannot tell how a person lost weight based on their face.

I thought ‘ozempic face’ was a thing.

It's not a thing

AgnesMcDoo · 04/09/2026 11:56

Sometimes but mostly not.

too many ignorant prejudiced arseholes out there

Most of the time - you can see who lost weight with jab. It simply looks different to one who lost with diet/exercise. Especially, if it's a big loss.

This is the kind of ill informed prejudice that leads many people to avoid discussing it.

You know jabs don't dissolve the fat.

People still have to diet and exercise to lose the weight.

They don’t look different to anyone else.

Ozempic Face… My sister’s face is chiselled in a way it never has been before. Even when we were young & slim. She’s back to her early twenties weight. She looks good, though!

Then she’s likely had fillers or she does a lot of strength training . As said the drug does not impact facial muscles or structure, I’m genuinely surprised anyone thinks it does.

It’s resentment and envy, it is dissipating though, as so many now on them. As a pp said, the question now is not why are you, it’s why wouldn’t you if you can. Everyone knows weight loss has a 80 percent regain rate. Clubs like slimming world 97 percent. And it is utterly miserable.

With the drugs, you lose at the same pace, just consistently, and can stay on a low dose to ensure you don’t regain, or go back on within a year if you do, without having to become over weight again. And of course the safety and health benefits are clear.

its cost I think primarily, and of course contraindications in some people, as well as not being eligible due to body weight.

the judgment I don’t think is because anyone actually thinks anyone is doing something shameful, although those judging would like you to think that, it’s simply envy and resentment.

and it is primarily women, against other women. Weight is such a messed up topic, that of course if you can take a safe, legitimate medication and be slim, it’s going to really fuck off those who can’t get their hands on it. Not everyone is a good person, they won’t all say. Lucky you, I’m really jealous, they will attack or make insidious comments instead.

I’ve not had any judgment, several of my friends are now on it, I have had flickers of envy when I have said I am staying on so won’t regain. I think some people thought well you will just regain it all when you come off, so realising you aren’t coming off, can cause some resentment.

the negative atttidues do seem to be reducing, as so many people now on them. I think sky news said over 7 million in the uk and with the advent of the pills, which are cheaper, that will increase a lot. Another factor is of course how successful people are on them, and how great most feel. Over 80 percent have no side effects at all.

Anecdotally I've noticed the dissipation too. There were a lot more shit stirring threads and posters on MN even 6 months or so ago. I don't think its the ban hammer either since that doesn't generally keep people off here who want to be. Like you, I think it's the sheer popularity plus the fact that they're slowly becoming more financially accessible, after the summer 2025 hike pushed things the other way for a short time. The tide is so obviously turning.

In answer to the OPs question, I tell people if they ask. The people who have asked are all friends and relatives where we're pretty open about health stuff with each other anyway, so that's just the dynamic my interpersonal relationships tend to have. With other women, it's not been men.

No fillers. It’s the actual fat-loss from her cheeks. Natural aging as well, the hearty cheeks of youth are long gone. She has beautiful bone structure that you can now see. Her nose is more streamlined as well.

Err that’s nuts. They have lost it with diet, they are eating less, how do you think it works? It’s not magic.

I thought ‘ozempic face’ was a thing.

But it’s not the ozempic it’s the weight loss. So you could say there’s a “suffering a bereavement face” the bereavement doesn’t make you lose weight, your response to it which in many cases is to not eat or not eat as much is the thing that alters one’s face.

Fair enough.
I wasn’t really agreeing or disagreeing with that poster, I know I’ve just seen the term ‘ozempic face’.

I know a few people who’ve recently lost a lot of weight and I’ve just assumed it’s because of the jabs.
I’ve never asked because I think it’s rude nor is it any of my business.

Yes it’s all over the media, but like lots of shite, it doesn’t mean it’s factual.

of course the drugs don’t impact facial structure or muscles, the idea is ludicrous.

Yeh, tbh after I read the other reply I was pondering it and realised it didn’t really make any sense.

whistlesandbells · 04/09/2026 16:13

If I am directly asked then I am truthful. If I am not asked then I just say thank you and move on. I don’t care what people think but also keep myself to myself.

ThefutureIwant · 04/09/2026 17:40

Oh the flip side, I've lost a lot of weight due to a number of factors (inc a stressful lifestyle change) and everyone thinks I'm on the jabs. I'm not, but it doesn't bother me in the slightest. I'm just proud to now be a healthy weight and I think we should all support those who are at, or closer to, where they feel happier weightwise, regardless of how they are doing it. Although the jabs are certainly a healthier method than my stress related weight loss!

No, it’s bonkers. Same as the comment up thread that you look different if you lose weight with the meds v without. Which defies all logic and rational thought,

yes weight loss or gain changes how we look. If we are overweight our faces can gain physical fat, which shows as jowls, double chins etc if we are underweight our faces can lose to much fat and become hollow.

if we lose weight without prioritising protein and working out, we will lose too much muscle , if we prioritise protein and strength training we won’t.

absolutely none of it is related to the medication or weight loss on the medication.

BeEagerRubyBird · 04/09/2026 18:01

I think perceptions are changing. I met up with a group of friends recently who I wasn't going to tell because I feared judgement, and I know that at least one of them definitely would have been in the past. Especially as I used off label to lose 1.5 stone which I think invites more judgement.

But I did tell them because I'm rubbish at lying and they were all totally fine, just interested!

Givemeabreakdagdammit · 04/09/2026 18:01

I told everyone and I've been honest from the start. I'm not embarrassed and won't allow people to make me or anyone feel ashamed. I also thought it was important to be honest as when I saw everyone looking incredible from losing weight and I couldn't, that fed into my shame cycle and I didn't want anyone feeling the way I did.

By being so open and honest, I've actually helped lots of people who were scared to start it and they are so happy and healthy now!

JustTalkToThem · 04/09/2026 18:02

It’s the first thing I say! “All thanks to Ozempic”

But honestly, they already know - and not because of Ozempic face bullshit, but because it’s really hard to lose this much weight, this quickly - even with eating right and exercise - that’s why I need it, and that’s why it’s so popular.

They either think I’m sick or know it’s MJ. I’d prefer them to know the truth.

mondaytosunday · 04/09/2026 18:22

Anyone I know who has noticeably lost weight that I’ve said ‘you look great’ has volunteered how they did it as they are so happy! Two by using WLI, one by keto, one by either WW or SW (can’t remember). The WLI woman have struggled for years and have only had success this way. I’m just happy for them!

tescovaluebread · 04/09/2026 18:26

@EverytimeItPours

I have lost almost 10st and I'm in agreement with you that if you have been obese all your life and you have suddenly managed to get your weight on track in the last 18-24 months, you're probably on the jabs. Bar a few exceptions.

I have a few good friends who I am only now starting to tell, now I have come to the end of my journey. The reason why I am telling them now is because firstly it's worked, and it isn't another fad diet, I feel confident in maintaining the loss, feel in general more confident in myself to have the conversation etc.

Now I'm being a bit more open about it, but still selective on who I tell.

It might be the case she isn't ready to tell.

Because that was me.

Redlightbulb · 04/09/2026 19:25

Been on since Aug 24. 7 1/2 stone lost. Only a few family members know.
I never discuss weight with others (apart from those that I live with) & am not someone to announce when I am starting a diet or going to the gym etc. so the use of the injections is no different.
I have yo-yoed so much in the past. This is the longest I have kept off the weight. Normally my body would be screaming at me to start overeating / gain it back. I haven't been directly asked if I use the jabs. I would feel a bit awkward about telling friends / colleagues now. I am too far in!

Icanthinkformyselfthanks · 04/09/2026 19:36

Yes absolutely, if someone asks how I lost weight I tell them. Why wouldn’t I?

purplepie1 · 04/09/2026 19:44

I haven’t told anyone yet, not even my partner, and now taken my 6th jab.

I will tell people one day but didn’t want any negative or judgemental comments.
