Do you tell others that your weight loss is due to the jabs?

I have lost 1st 4lbs- about 10% of my body weight. Today someone actually noticed and commented on it. It was our lovely cleaner at work. She asked me how and so I told her. I expect as I lose more, I'll get asked this question more.

Do you just tell people the truth? I'm inclined to but not 100% sure as I want to see how I go with it long term.

What do you tell people? I think most people who have lost a lot of weight in the last couple of years will have used the jabs.
Also I'm generally an open person. So I'm not sure why I'm feeling reluctant to be evasive.

It seems to me that it’s going more the other way - a view of why wouldn’t you use the jabs if you were very overweight. And then there’s the cost issue that lots can’t actually afford them.

MrsPepperpotty · 04/09/2026 08:51

I tell anyone who asks, except my MIL who I think would be judgemental about it.

thisfilmisboring123 · 04/09/2026 08:54

I’ve never asked nor would I (maybe a few of my very closest friends) how they how had lost the weight.

If I saw someone now who’d lost a lot of weight, I would just assume it was the jabs.

HappyWineDay · 04/09/2026 08:54

I’m neither ashamed nor embarrassed that I use WLIs but I have no intention of telling a soul other than my DW. My medical history is absolutely nobody’s business.
I also think people are far more judgemental than some posters think. Maybe not to your face, but certainly behind your back. Just look at the comments you get after any WLI article in an online newspaper. Judgemental is all you get, sadly.

Katalica · 04/09/2026 08:55

I’ve been very happy to tell anyone who comments about my weight loss that I’ve used MJ.

I think it’s a brilliant drug and it has also cured a couple of other non weight related medical conditions that I had, so that’s been an unexpected bonus.

I think glp-1s will be prescribed to treat various women’s health issues in the near future and that will help the skeptics to get over their horror. 😂

HelenDenver · 04/09/2026 08:56

@EverytimeItPours I am sure she doesn’t think you are stupid.

Just as with therapy or anti depressants etc, lots of people feel strange that they need WLI to make progress, as there’s a social narrative that people should just have willpower/a stiff upper lip. The discomfort/shame of needing them can be strong.

Katalica · 04/09/2026 09:00

Saddaughter999 · 04/09/2026 06:49

Most of the time - you can see who lost weight with jab. It simply looks different to one who lost with diet/exercise. Especially, if it's a big loss.

OMG. Do you actually think the jabs magically dissolve the fat??? 🤣🤣🤣

They only work because the user is eating in a calorie deficit.
You know…diet!

The jabs switch off signals in the brain to help them to make those choices.

PuzzledObserver · 04/09/2026 09:00

EverytimeItPours · 04/09/2026 06:35

Yes she does, we talked about it previously, about some other people who were on it, and good for them etc.
I think it also gets to me because it couldn’t be any more obvious and therefore I feel she must think I’m stupid. Like a pp, I do think it’s obvious in 2026 if someone who has been significantly over weight for a long time, struggles to lose weight for years, and then suddenly drops a load of dress sizes. Who do they think they’re kidding with stories of eating better? And it makes the person they’re telling feel like they’re being treated like a fool.
but I wish anyone well who is using these and improving their health and their self confidence, 100% good for them.

I just want to pop on and say - she could be telling the truth. I lost over 5 stone in 2024/5 through “eating better” (low carb, real food, fasting) and kept it off, with wobbles, for over a year. It was a huge amount of work, mainly on the psychological side. This despite multiple previous weight loss efforts, which always immediately went into reverse.

Now I’m on WLI to get the rest of the way to a healthy body weight. I was a little surprised nobody had asked me if I was on WLI then, but nobody did. Maybe they thought I was lying? I wasn’t. But as and when it comes up in conversation in future, I will tell people the truth - I lost 5 stone through lifestyle change, but am using WLI for another 2.5.

Clasty · 04/09/2026 09:07

MakeItUpAgain · 04/09/2026 08:45

So on some level I'm not expecting or inviting that sort of conversation and so people don't enter into it that way with me.

It’s absolutely fascinating, and somewhat ironic, that there are people on this thread who use wli being judgmental of people who chose not to discuss their use with others. First the “I’m not ashamed” comments, now yours.

Tell me how

“You look well, have you lost weight? You’re not using the jabs are you? You wouldn’t do that, would you?”

is due to me expecting or inviting that sort of comment and how I could avoid such comments?

Oh, I'm sorry to have made you feel that way! It wasn't my intention at all.

If I can try to answer your question - it's interesting that you gave that as an example because you're right, some people have said that sort of thing to me and I have responded more or less as I have here? As in: yes! They are great and I'm really pleased!! And then we've talked about it with them asking questions. It hasn't developed into anything horrible, is what I mean.

So I suppose maybe I barrel over them a bit? 😬 I wasn't thinking of that as being that negative, more about them expressing their own worries about the jabs. A lot of people feel trepidatious about new things.

Clasty · 04/09/2026 09:09

And to be clear, you do as you please! It's not some sort of duty on you to think, feel, or behave as I do. Why would it be? We're all different.

Stop with the silliness. 😂

you need to diet on the meds, of course you don’t look different. You did make me laugh though,

Saddaughter999 · 04/09/2026 09:23

Face looks different on jab, doesn't matter you lost 20 or 70kg. You can disagree, but lots of people notice it too.

GiveMeWordGames · 04/09/2026 09:24

DH knew from almost the start. I've told close friends, who in general have been open and curious and just happy for me.

People who I meet through work (I'm freelance so I don't have ongoing colleagues, but instead there's eg people who might not have seen me for 3-4 months so it's even more obvious in a way) no, I don't. Too many unknowns in terms of their attitude and possible reaction/judgement and I don't want to end up down the rabbit hole of educating & explaining.

I've not told my Mum because she's in her 80s and anything new generates endless weird questions and worries and misunderstandings (I've never even dared to try and explain internet forums like this one to her😂) so, nope, not going there. 😐

I thought ‘ozempic face’ was a thing.

It’s resentment and envy, it is dissipating though, as so many now on them. As a pp said, the question now is not why are you, it’s why wouldn’t you if you can. Everyone knows weight loss has a 80 percent regain rate. Clubs like slimming world 97 percent. And it is utterly miserable.

With the drugs, you lose at the same pace, just consistently, and can stay on a low dose to ensure you don’t regain, or go back on within a year if you do, without having to become over weight again. And of course the safety and health benefits are clear.

its cost I think primarily, and of course contraindications in some people, as well as not being eligible due to body weight.

the judgment I don’t think is because anyone actually thinks anyone is doing something shameful, although those judging would like you to think that, it’s simply envy and resentment.

and it is primarily women, against other women. Weight is such a messed up topic, that of course if you can take a safe, legitimate medication and be slim, it’s going to really fuck off those who can’t get their hands on it. Not everyone is a good person, they won’t all say. Lucky you, I’m really jealous, they will attack or make insidious comments instead.

I’ve not had any judgment, several of my friends are now on it, I have had flickers of envy when I have said I am staying on so won’t regain. I think some people thought well you will just regain it all when you come off, so realising you aren’t coming off, can cause some resentment.

the negative atttidues do seem to be reducing, as so many people now on them. I think sky news said over 7 million in the uk and with the advent of the pills, which are cheaper, that will increase a lot. Another factor is of course how successful people are on them, and how great most feel. Over 80 percent have no side effects at all.

wiredandtired · 04/09/2026 09:34

I would tell people who I know wouldn't judge or start a debate about what I should/ shouldn't be doing with my body as a result.

Saddaughter999 · 04/09/2026 09:23

That's just because of weight loss, not specifically because of the jab. People's faces do change when they gain/ lose weight.

That’s weight loss, the medication does nothing to facial structure or muscles.

Bzr · 04/09/2026 10:34

I just assume anyone who has lost a lot of weight is on them.

Fallenee · 04/09/2026 10:35

I've not told anyone but tbh not many people have commented (I don't have many friends and people I see regularly aren't close enough to comment on things like that). I just tend to keep things like that private, I don't tell anyone I dye my hair or use botox either. Maybe they can guess but I like the ambiguity.

She probably doesn’t think you are stupid. She probably knows you know. She just doesn’t want to talk about it. If she’s been obese and struggling with her weight for many years it’s likely a difficult issue for her. I think it’s fine for her to want to not discuss it with you.

😂😂😂 Of course you can tell if people have lost weight on wli by looking at us. And sometimes you’ll notice the little adipose creatures running away which is a dead giveaway.

Do you tell others that your weight loss is due to the jabs?

Thanks for explaining. Apologies I’ve been a bit grumpy and defensive on this thread. I take back my comments about people saying they are not ashamed too. Presumably they mean some people believe people on wli should be ashamed not that people on wli who don’t tell others are ashamed. I’ve had my coffee now and resumed my equilibrium.

If I was younger I probably would have replied like you do, but honestly I’m just too jaded nowadays. Anything for a quiet life 😂

In the beginning I said healthy eating and excersize but as the weight loss continued and realising that aloooot of people are on them I started being honest . I’ve been on MJ for 18 months (with a 2 month gap) although I’m now entering long term maintainance BmI 27 , I have lost 25% of my body weight and normal dieting would never have done that over a period of a year or so , so I rather be honest about it especially as I’m still wearing oversized clothes still in the fear of regain (empty bag of potato sack look) 🤣

whiteseabenches · 04/09/2026 11:36

Yes - I’ve lost 4 stone so far. When people asked how I’ve done it, I’ve said ‘a lot of hard work and a little extra help from medicine’.
