Do you tell others that your weight loss is due to the jabs?

I have lost 1st 4lbs- about 10% of my body weight. Today someone actually noticed and commented on it. It was our lovely cleaner at work. She asked me how and so I told her. I expect as I lose more, I'll get asked this question more.

Do you just tell people the truth? I'm inclined to but not 100% sure as I want to see how I go with it long term.

What do you tell people? I think most people who have lost a lot of weight in the last couple of years will have used the jabs.
Also I'm generally an open person. So I'm not sure why I'm feeling reluctant to be evasive.

I always tell people and advocate for the benefit of the drugs. Without wegovy I couldn’t lose and maintain weight loss. Absolutely nothing to be ashamed of!

redboxerclub · 04/09/2026 06:30

Yes I told people after a while. If been obewe for 35 years and aged 46 I lost 5 stone. I had been on a diet my whole life and this was my only successful time.

I told an inner circle as I started in them and then after about 9 months and 4 stone I would start to be honest

its changed my life. I’m now 11 stone 5 and need to shift 1 more stone.

MakeItUpAgain · 04/09/2026 06:35

Those of is who don’t tell others we are on wli are not ashamed. Why even suggest that if you are positive about the medication?

I just can’t be bothered dealing with people’s misplaced judgment and ignorance.

Does your friend know you are positive about WLIs? Even if she does, perhaps she just can’t be bothered discussing it with anyone. I don’t think you should take it personally or think it’s a reflection on your friendship.

Yes she does, we talked about it previously, about some other people who were on it, and good for them etc.
I think it also gets to me because it couldn’t be any more obvious and therefore I feel she must think I’m stupid. Like a pp, I do think it’s obvious in 2026 if someone who has been significantly over weight for a long time, struggles to lose weight for years, and then suddenly drops a load of dress sizes. Who do they think they’re kidding with stories of eating better? And it makes the person they’re telling feel like they’re being treated like a fool.
but I wish anyone well who is using these and improving their health and their self confidence, 100% good for them.

Beyondjourneysend · 04/09/2026 06:47

I've told lots of people, they are generally interested - I've also been told by acquaintances at work. I haven't noticed any judgemental reactions. I don't think it would bother me, I'd just assume they were an idiot.

It could be where I live/ work but people I encounter are generally educated and tolerant. Not just about WL drugs but in general.

Saddaughter999 · 04/09/2026 06:49

Most of the time - you can see who lost weight with jab. It simply looks different to one who lost with diet/exercise. Especially, if it's a big loss.

WombatCowgirl · 04/09/2026 06:52

In what way @Saddaughter999 ? I find that hard to believe!

I tweeted to hear how you think this?

Sogfree · 04/09/2026 07:12

No.

But i got into running pre jabs so that has been what everyone has assumed.

I've not lied. I've just not been open.

Hardest one is my boyfriend, who'll make a comment every 6 months or so about wli, due to the many people he knows using them. I feel I'm too far in now to tell him, but maybe he's already worked out i am using them and is upset I've not told him.

Actually, what am i talking about?! He never picks up on obvious stuff, so he wouldn't work this out!

SethAndReubenTooSendGaloshes · 04/09/2026 07:16

Friends yes. I'm not embarrassed about it. Nobody in my extended family though as I couldn't bear it if it got back to my dad who is absurdly judgemental.

No it doesn't. You really can't tell anything of the sort.
The reason you think this is because a lot of jabbers have lost a large amount of weight which prior to WLI wasn't widely possible without surgery so it was very rare, now it's relatively common. People who have lost 6 plus stones tend to look quite different and will often have loose skin including on the face. People who use WLI to lose 2-4 stone look just like people who lost weight.

Pashazade · 04/09/2026 07:30

If they ask straight I’m honest. Don’t GAF. They can think what they like it’s changed my life for the better in multiple ways. I’m also honest about the negatives. It really is no one else’s business. But I will not be shamed for my choices.

newmenewwhatever · 04/09/2026 07:32

I told everyone who knew me or commented.
i also assume if someone I know has struggled with weight their whole life but is now able to diet successfully, that they are on wli

RemakeRemodel · 04/09/2026 07:52

I was going to tell my mum - we were round at her house and she mentioned she was worried dinner was a bit small, did she need to do extra bread type thing. And all I said was "oh DH and I are on a bit of a diet actually, it'll be fine..." and she instantly went a bit weird and mentioning could we have this and that, and what was healthy and what wasn't and I could tell it was going to be hard work, so I just rowed back and said "really, just less junk and smaller portions!" She's perfectly nice but I could tell she was going to be weird about it and I just couldn't be doing with it. I decided I will tell anyone who specifically asks, or people I know who have also done them.

That just can’t be true. You do know that people who take jabs lose weight with diet and exercise too. It doesn’t disappear with a jab.

I find this quite disturbing, why on earth do you feel you’re entitled to her private medical information and she will be eating better, and on a diet, the drugs don’t melt the fat off.

you come across as resentful and jealous. Her private medical information is just that, she won’t be lying about her diet etc, her weight loss is not about you.

Clasty · 04/09/2026 08:13

Oh yes I tell everyone who asks. Never had any judgment or anything. Everyone has just been curious, or they're on it themselves. My family don't have judgmental opinions about bodies generally though so I'm not brought up to expect it - I'm not doing it to myself in my head, if you see what I mean. So on some level I'm not expecting or inviting that sort of conversation and so people don't enter into it that way with me.

So yeah, not a single person has said anything negative to me about it in 18 months. I went from BMI 30 to 22 so not a massive loss but so very good for my inflammation. I have had chronically high inflammation markers for 10 years due to PSS and now it's all normal. Actually normal bloods! I am delighted! I tell everyone as I celebrate 12 months hospitalisation-free!!

If that’s the way you see it, fine. but there’s nothing in my post to suggest I’m jealous and I’m not going to go into the details of my friendship with that person.

FormerFatty · 04/09/2026 08:20

I’m relatively tall and probably didn’t look fat so people have not really noticed my weightloss (over 50 pounds).

I have had the odd ‘you’re looking really skinny!’ comment, so then I tell people it was mounjaro.

Askandyforcompo · 04/09/2026 08:25

I've not told my 'local' friends because one of them is very vociferously against it. She thinks it's immoral so I don't want her to know so haven't told anyone else who knows her. I told her that I cut out all carbs which I actually did. I just wouldn't have been able to do it without the medication.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 04/09/2026 08:34

Yep - I'm very open about it. I've never had any judgement, only curiosity

You don't understand that you still have to diet and exercise to lose the weight. It just makes dieting 'easy', but you still.have to operate at a calorie deficit.

I mostly gave up carbs which is something I've tried to do in the past. The injection made it possible for me to do that for a year.

It’s absolutely fascinating, and somewhat ironic, that there are people on this thread who use wli being judgmental of people who chose not to discuss their use with others. First the “I’m not ashamed” comments, now yours.

Tell me how

“You look well, have you lost weight? You’re not using the jabs are you? You wouldn’t do that, would you?”

is due to me expecting or inviting that sort of comment and how I could avoid such comments?

Blondemacaroni · 04/09/2026 08:47

I
am completely open and honest yes. I actually think it’s more responsible to tell people the truth and that it’s not just ‘moving more and eating less’ I have always really struggled with my weight and those comments from people were never helpful and made me feel like an awful person for not being able to do the same.

PuzzledObserver · 04/09/2026 08:48

I’’m not typical in that I had already lost a lot (over 5 stone) before jabs, but stabilised/maintained at round about 30 BMI, been there heading for 18 months. So I’d already had all the “how did you do it” convos. And then the “you’re keeping your weight off, how are you doing that?” ones as well.

Now I’ve started on MJ aiming to get just into the healthy range, that will be another 16% loss, so will be noticeable.

The only people I’ve told proactively are DH, one of my sisters (cos she has talked about wanting to go on them), one friend, and several of my Overeaters Anonymous fellows. The last two, because we talk about weight/eating a lot, and it feels like it would be deceptive not to tell them.

For everyone else, I have decided I will tell them if it seems to be relevant and appropriate.
