A supportive, idea-sharing thread for those with more than 5 stone/30kg to lose. We're a mixture of newbies, nearly theres, there and maintaining and we know what it's like to have what can seem like a mountain to climb - but we also know we can do it!

Nothing is off topic except referral codes 😊

Thank you all for your kind words and support.

I went back to work today @Onegramatatime-decided going back on a Friday may help minimise Sunday night worry. I think it was right & I feel less daunted for actually getting back now. I agree councilling may be helpful but I am scared to open that floodgate and don’t really know where to look. Work have some telephone access like a phone line for immediate employer support but don’t think this is what I need. I would need ‘the right person’ to open up and scared I’d feel worse/broken if get going. Thanks for reminding me to explore it though.
So still a bit low but managing good protein heavy meals e.g Tuna (big can) and jacket with salad for tea.
What sort of meals are you lot eating? I’m dairy free but would otherwise like to have cottage cheese or yogurt more.
I am skipping breakfast sometimes and having a protein bar mid morning instead, so am eating reasonable amount but I seemed to be craving the sweet treats even though not hungry.
Sleep been disrupted so maybe this is why as I know sleep impacts my hunger.

Thanks for videos @MooBaggage I may try one in the morning.
Night all.

@Reginaphalangeeeee going back to work is a big step - hope it went well and you're not too knackered this weekend.

Meals-wise, I tend to have salmon once a week - baked with cherry toms and lemon juice in foil - I stick it in a parcel in the air fryer for about 20 mins.

I usually make up a batch of chicken in soy sauce and honey - chicken thigh fillets and put soy sauce, honey, seasoning, balsamic vinegar and tomato ketchup in. Leave if you can for a bit and then cook at about 170 degrees for 20-ish mins. Then I can chop up the chicken and either have as is, in salads, or stir fry.

They're my 2 x standard meals each week because I'm so unimaginative..! Then I'll have prawns with salad, sausages which I cook and then have throughout the week with salad/veg.

My older son moved in with me last week (very unexpectedly with 24 hours' notice!!) so I'm having to behave less like a student and actually make an effort to cook! 🤦‍♀️😬

Thanks @MooBaggage
Good ideas. I live mostly on airfried chicken mini fillets which I season or marinade. I admit using a Nando’s sauce more than I should! Also do salmon 1-2 a week. I use fresh garlic, ginger and splash of soy in a foil parcel if you fancy a change.
Afraid bread is in too many of my meals because I love it e.g today smoked salmon, eggs and toast with avo.

Always love food and flavour inspirations as I do get stuck!

Alot of family/mum admin this weekend to catch up that has been neglected so still overwhelmed a bit. Hope you all have a great weekend

I've not been on Mumsnet for ages, so I've just read back several pages and an sending good wishes to @Reginaphalangeeeee, and being impressed by the lovely photos.

Things have just been ticking along for me, and my BMI is now just under 24. I have around a stone to lose until I hit my dream target of a BMI of 21.5, sand that feels weirdly achievable, but I'm starting to get a bit nervous about maintaining rather than losing weight, as I don't really know how to do that. I think I'll book a maintenance consultation with Pharmacist in the next month or two to work out a plan for switching from weight loss to maintenance.

Reginaphalangeeeee · 07/06/2026 23:56

Thanks @UnimaginableWindBird

It sounds like you are doing great!!! Can only dream of that BMI (31currently) but completely relate to utter fear of maintenance path. I am so worried I will undo all I have achieved. It seems since and academic papers say I will 😔

I'm trying to decide whether to move up to 15mg - I'm definitely in a pattern of losing about 2lbs a month now, losing 1lb every 2 weeks - so I am still losing, just at a much slower rate. I think I've done everything I can to support the weight loss - smaller portions, more water, exercise. So it's whether I stick to being patient and accept this final stone is going to take its own sweet time, or try a final push via the higher dose?

Tricky - I'm soooo impatient in general, so the temptation to throw the final dose at it is high! But so is the cost..!

In the meantime, no weight loss for 10 days so far, but I'm so pleased with my energy levels - am currently helping dp with his house and can now spend hours gardening, painting, cleaning etc and not want to lie down and cry... 😃

I've got a full 12.5mg pen to start, so don't need to make a decision for a few weeks - will continue to ponder....

@MooBaggageI was in the exact same position a few months ago, I decided to go up to 15mg. It did give a short term boost, but the weight loss has slowed down again, and is back to how it was on 12.5. However I still feel it’s working well in terms of feeling fuller for longer, especially in the 3 or 4 days after injecting. I’m not sure 12.5 would be working quite so well. Maybe see how you go and use 15 for a final push for the last half stone?

AnneinEdinburgh · 09/06/2026 07:13

Sw 19 stone
Cw 13 stone 1lb
Tw 10.5 stone ish

I've been on 15mg for about 9 months now and after a stall of several months I'm on the move again hooray! I am now officially overweight not obese hooray!!!

No side effects on 15mg and it does keep the food noise and naughtiness at bay until about day 6 but as you say, the cost!

Anyway the sun is currently shining on Edinburgh despite rain all day forecast and who'd have thought overweight would feel so good!!

Onwards and downwards xx

Reginaphalangeeeee · 09/06/2026 07:49

@MooBaggage where did you get your last 12.5mg pen?
I ordered from the family chemist for first time and got 12.5mg as been using my 10mg pen to give 11mg and thought made sense.
It was a new style pen 😩
I rang a few bigger pharmacies and seems 12.5mg pen now many have new style.
I am considering 15mg just for better value now.
considering 10mg pen (old) gives 5 doses at approx 50mg med.
The new 12.5mg pen gives x4 so also 50mg! But is more expensive.
Thinking I’ll stick with 10mg or get 15mg and make it last longer counting clicks 🤷‍♀️
You may find 15mg more cost effective if old style and could keep under 15mg to give yourself somewhere to go with it still.

It’s a hard balance to keep scales moving but also the fear of however high I go, I’ll have to come back down from and suffer intense hunger. I am so worried about it.
I have a long way to go still but my fear is not about reaching it, it’s about staying there

MooBaggage · 09/06/2026 07:59

@Reginaphalangeeeee I've got my last couple of 12.5mg pens from AYP pharmacy - I like that their prices are stable (£249 for 12.5mg) and I don't have to go hunting for discount codes - they do take longer than other providers to get the pen posted, so I make sure I order a couple of weeks in advance. I'll probably stay with them if I do go up to 15mg. So far it's the usual pens with the 5th dose in them..!

I think I'm in complete denial about maintaining... I think probably because I know I want to stay on MJ at some dose or other forever, and I know that mainly now I can maintain (even though I want to lose 🙄), so even if I can only get down to 7.5mg, as long as that helps me to maintain I'll be OK with that - I've got a couple more years to work so am hoping that by the time I retire, MJ will be available in tablet form and much cheaper! The ideal would be to get down to 2.5mg, but that seems a lifetime away at the moment.

@nailslikeknives that's brilliant - I hope to be where you are in a few months' time! It's so heartening to hear when people get to that healthy BMI - gives me hope!

So I bought 2 x lots of hand weights from Decathlon. I have 1 x 3kg pair that live in the kitchen and I do 10 x squats with them (so I squat and then as I'm rising back up I raise my arms with them) each time I make a coffee. Sounds very small, but has made a real difference. After the 10 x squats, while the coffee's still being brewed I'll have my arms above my head and do knee lifts on the spot! That at least means I'm doing something every day for a few minutes each time (takes about 2 mins for the coffee to be made and I have 3 - 4 each day).

I also have 5kg hand weights that I do stuff with, but must admit have gone off the boil recently as I have to get them out and get off the settee....

I have found routines via Instagram - Sally Gunnell is good to follow as she does stuff for women my age as that's her age too! Once you follow someone like her, you'll get lots of other Insta stuff - I take short routines that I think I'll be able to do and then put my own stuff together.

I also highly recommend Yoga with Adriene on YouTube - am now officially obsessed and tend to do some at least once, usually twice a day. I love her morning/stretch stuff for the morning and I always do one of her bedtime ones at night. I feel like this is making a difference to my posture and arm and leg strength - I can get out of breath at times with it, but mainly just feel lovely and refreshed afterwards!

Can I ask where you do your yoga at home and how you set your area up? I love yoga and do 3 classes a week at my gym, but I’d love to do some at home too. Do you use your phone to watch it on? I would need to move furniture in the lounge each time to have enough space and my dogs would definitely get involved! I’d love a dedicated yoga room (maybe once teen leaves home!)

MooBaggage · 09/06/2026 14:09

A dedicated yoga room would be amazing!

I live in a v small flat, but the biggest room in it is the lounge, so I'm lucky that I do have space on the floor 😊 I bought a yoga mat and it fits nicely (at an angle!) in front of the telly and I have Youtube on the telly and watch Adriene on there 😀

i feel sorry for ds1 though, who has recently moved in and now has to suffer my Downward Dog poses if he wants to come through to the kitchen when I'm yoga-ing...!

Haha! Yes, sons wandering around don’t really add to the yoga vibe 😬
I’ll give it a go asap and assume resident dogs will join in. Could be fun! Thank you 🙏

@Cavapoodlenoodle you could do dog yoga a bit like the goat yoga

This! So this! I think they do actual puppy yoga in the US as well - adorable puppies wandering around the yoga-ing people!

Celebrating 1lb off, because right now every 1lb counts!

13.1.25 SW 20st 3lbs BMI 43.0
10.6.26 CW 12st 7lbs BMI 26.5

That's 108lbs lost with 11lbs to go to hit the magical BMI 24.9 😍

Hitting 12st 7lbs feels amazing because in 1995 when I was 26 and in in my first NHS job I remember doing a weight loss challenge at work of trying to lose 2 stone to get to 12st 7lb - so I must have been 14st 7lb at the time. I got some sponsorship and tried so hard, but was mortified I didn't make it. I think I got to about 13st, and then of course put it all on (plus more) very soon after... Just one of so many attempts to get somewhere near a healthy BMI.

So I know for sure this is unchartered territory for me as an adult...!

Onwards and downwards for us all - quickly or slowly, keep the faith... 💪💪💪
