A supportive, idea-sharing thread for those with more than 5 stone/30kg to lose. We're a mixture of newbies, nearly theres, there and maintaining and we know what it's like to have what can seem like a mountain to climb - but we also know we can do it!

Nothing is off topic except referral codes 😊

Wu Yu from China is the Olympic womens gold medalist in boxing - 50 kilo catagory. Its unfathomable that I have lost an entire adult female boxer, yet there it is.

Now to visualise Wu Yu & friends chasing me around, keeping me active for the rest of my days. I need to make her into a badge.

Yayyyy for losing a whole Chinese boxer and getting to healthy BMI @RobinEllacotStrike !! It's such an achievement. Congratulations!👏👏🍾🎉

In terms of speed of loss, I hit 4 stone off around the 6 month mark - ie late September. Then it's taken until now (so, 18 weeks) to lose another 23lbs.

Hello @mounj1 and welcome. You've already lost an amazing amount, well done.

Sorry to those who are struggling a bit. I think between Christmas aftermath and winter hibernation mode, it's not an easy part of the year for this malarkey.

Another lb off for me this week so I'm 11st 9. Squeaking a day at home inbetween endless train travel. I've been working my way around the M&S nutrient dense things. They're quite good, I reckon, for food on the move.

RobinEllacotStrike · 30/01/2026 12:22

oh thank you @MooBaggage

these threads have been invaluable and are the loveliest place on the internet. Having you all as company & confidants has been a really important part of this for me - so thank you all.

I'm thinking now I would like to lose maybe a few more kgs as ideally I would like to stick to 73kg or less, and I will need a wee buffer. I'll sit with this for a while and see what happens next. I don't have an exit plan yet so there is still work to be done.

thanks @GiveMeWordGames 🙏🏼
I really feel like I am in hibernation mode this winter - sadly I have to go to work each day.

Dear Women - it has happened!! I am BMI "Healthy" <bows>

After a bit of a woosh this morning I weighed 73.5kgs. My BMI is now 24.6 "healthy".

I looked back at Thread 2 and I wrote this on one of my first posts shortly after starting MJ:

"I've just realised I've got no idea what a healthy BMI is - I've been over 30 for at least 20 years I guess & I'm currently 40.8
Seeing XXX post about a goal BMI of 21.5 it hit me I've no idea what my "heatlhy BMI" would be.
The calculator seems to be saying I need to be between 70 & 73 kilos to be in the top of my "heathy weight" range. I'm shocked. That would mean losing 50 ish kilos which is a whole person."

SW 124kg
CW 73.5kg
Loss to date 50.5kgs

SBMI 41
CBMI 24.6

I would say losing the 2nd 25kgs took over twice as long as losing the first 25kgs. I did it without counting calories, though I plan to count calories in maintenance. Its been slow compared to others but i am 58 and I think things slow down. Looking back, for me it has been perfectly paced. Overall, it has been pretty easy. I've gone on holidays, festivals, celebrations etc - all through this process I had much fun, lived my life and have been pretty relaxed. I've not stressed about food. I have eaten 100's of pomegranates & kiwis, gallons of greek yoghurt and uncountable nuts.

The best of all for me has been establishing a regular exercise habit. I always enjoyed yoga, but getting on my mat 6 times a week since November 24 has been just as lifechanging as losing fifty excessive, unwanted & unneeded kilos.

I don't think I've been a healthy BMI since my mid teens.

Keep going!

Congratulations 🥳

fingers crossed I will join you in the healthy BMI gang in a month or so

MooBaggage · 30/01/2026 14:13

No-one is as sad as I am right now - coming home tomorrow...! Am currently sat by the pool, drink in hand (soft! 😇), debating whether to have a last swim before the costume needs to dry to be packed..!

I know I won't get the chance to do a 3 week holiday again before I retire, but am so glad I've done it once and can highly recommend it - especially in January!

Can I join in. I started a year ago next week

SW 400 lbs (28 st 8 lbs)
CW 307 lbs (21 st 13lbs)

I've no goal weight in mind as I've been overweight my whole life. I was started in WW aged 15 at 13 1/2 stone and it's just kept getting worse since. I've never lost more than a stone or two in WW / SW / Unislim / Cambridge diet etc.

I had a plateau when I went to 10mg, and lost nothing for about 2 months. Now I'm on 12.5 and it's kicked in again. I'm still way overweight but I'm not discouraged at all as I can see that it's working.

My plateau was almost two months 😱 Prior to MJ I would have given up but I also guess things were a little bit slacker over Christmas. This past two weeks I have drunk more water, eaten more kiwis, walked more and avoided as much UPF as possible. I didn’t want to go up to 12.5 because I didn’t really feel any different between 7.5 and 10 in terms of food noise so I could understand the benefit of doing so.

always lots of good advice on these forums - stick with it

RobinEllacotStrike · 30/01/2026 14:25

🥝🥝 nice one @TheSlimmingPumpkin 🥝🥝

@mounj1 just echoing wht Pumpkin says - many of us with lots to lose have many plateaus. It seems to be part of the process. Keep going.

Look up @info's plateau busting tips towards the end of thread 11 x

RobinEllacotStrike · 30/01/2026 14:28

I have lost just over 40% of my starting weight - unfathomable!

Darlinghag · 30/01/2026 14:49

Congratulations @RobinEllacotStrike amazing stuff!!! You’ve worked so hard!!

And thanks to everyone for their kind words. I have been off schedule for 4 months; so this is a relief to back on it.

I am very short, so lots to do still. My BMI is over 31 and am 12st 10ish. I could lose another 5 stone and still be considered a healthy weight. Not that I intend to - I think I need to get to 10 stone though - and I suspect I will have a lot of skin on my stomach apron that would stop any more significant loss after that.

Has any thought about life after? In terms of surgeries or other treatments? I had always been an absolute not, no need, but I think I would consider it you know. Of course; I need to get down an appropriate weight and maintain for at least a year or two to consider it, and see what I am not happy with.

And those of you who are at goal or close - how is your skin? My double chin has loosened up after shrinking away and looks a lot better but I don’t think I will get quite so lucky with the rest of me. My stomach is hanging lower and lower with loss, and I just can’t see that shrinking down enough, to feel happy.

RobinEllacotStrike · 30/01/2026 15:22

Funny enough the loose skin on my tummy has got a lot bettter than it was.

I think one of the benefits of being a bit slower to lose is the skin has more of a chance. Its the worst on my upper arms - properly hanging crepey skin depending on my position. Inner thighs are a bit saggy. Overall I have gained wrinkles & loose skin all over, but its not unbearable. Visually its just the arms that really bother me. Boobs - oh well they were great while they were great, now a bit like tennis balls in socks, but I'm 58 and have few fucks to give about that now.

My quite big B belly has disappeared and I am slowly slowly slowly gaining abdominal strength through exercise which must help. It's nice to see the shape of my boobs above a relatively flat tummy, instead of them resting on the shelf of my top of the B. (wearing a bra of course).

I'm not very regular with taking collagen but I do supplement with flaxseed oil most days & that is great for skin. I took this during 2 pregnancies & had 2 quite big babies & no stretchmarks. I do have old stretch marks from rapid weight gain as a teen so I know I can get them.

I can tell in my face if I'm not drinking enough water. It starts screaming dehydration & I look 10 years older than if I'm getting plenty of fluids.

My friend is a wonderful nurse and she can accurately guess peoples BMI from a glance. She did point out that people losing much weight need to make allowance (with BMI calculations) for the weight of the extra skin etc after weightloss. ie this extra skin we have means we will weigh more than a person of the same size without the extra skin.

ShrankLastWinter · 30/01/2026 16:50

So good to read everyone’s updates.

WOW @RobinEllacotStrike have a fabulous time this evening and celebrate your Healthy BMI Day! So wonderful to hear!

But Moo, what do you mean you’re not taking a three week sunny holiday next Jan? I was planning on coming with you! I expect lots of us were! What are these bikini bods for if not that? Have a great last evening out there!

On the loose skin, it seems to resolve with time and above all exercise. You’d have to look quite carefully to see I’d lost weight and I don’t think anyone would guess I’ve lost a third of me.

Actually I had a nice but weird NSV today: my rib flare has resolved. I woke up this morning and was as usual astonished and delighted to find myself a healthy weight. I ran some fingers experimentally over the tum zone, and found it still minimal. And then I realized - my ribs don’t stick out lower down any more! Or rather, one does still a bit on the left but not much even there and the right are all flat. They’ve stuck out since second pregnancy and now they’re going back in!

SauvignonBlanche · 30/01/2026 17:15

Congratulations @RobinEllacotStrike that’s inspirational! 🎉👏

I too need to loose a Chinese Weightlifter 🫣

How long has your amazing loss taken?

RobinEllacotStrike · 30/01/2026 17:27

thank you!!

I started end of July 2024 - so 18 months.
I'm 58 now & things do slow down with age, but actually its been a nice pace for me. I remember feeling so excited and impatient at first and then, as I often say to others, I just settled down & kept going.

RobinEllacotStrike · 30/01/2026 17:55

And just like magic my waist : hip ratio is now dead on .85.

its interesting how this ratio lines up just as my BMI is healthy.

That's fantastic! Also, weirdly, I wasn't aware of that particular health yardstick. I've been working on my height/waist ratio and I'm a tiny bit off the 50% mark. I'm going to have to check the hip version now of course. 😁

Emas82 · 30/01/2026 18:23

I didn't know about the waist/hip ratio either 🤔 mine works out at 0.84, so that's a win! My BMI is still 33 tho 🤣
Waist to height ratio I still need to lose 5.5 inches from my waist. Or grow a bit!

RobinEllacotStrike · 30/01/2026 18:37

I didn’t know about waist to height ratio!

its .49 which is in the low range.

its lovely to be hitting these healthy targets for the first time ever age 58.

GiveMeWordGames · 30/01/2026 18:38

I'm just over 0.86. So close!

RobinEllacotStrike · 30/01/2026 18:58

So close!

I think the last 5 kg or so have largely come off my belly. The last time i measured was a few months ago now & I was way off.

TheSlimmingPumpkin · 30/01/2026 18:59

Waist to hip 0.87 and height to waist is 0.54. I reckon losing another 7 to 10 lbs will get me to the green zones. 💪🏻 let’s go 💪🏻

@RobinEllacotStrike my last 5lbs does need to come off my belly 🙏

HumBumBum · 30/01/2026 20:22

Just checking in before I lose you all xx

QueenOfHiraeth · 30/01/2026 20:51

@RobinEllacotStrike Well done! What a lovely milestone! Very envious of your Chinese boxer!
I've just checked my ratios and my waist-height is 0.55, waist-hip is 0.82 and BMI is 26. So close and yet so far! Not quite healthy weight and I'd be grand if I was 6ft tall!

On a positive note I have lost a pound this week just by drinking more, eating more protein, etc so fingers crossed heading in the right direction. Just got to get sleep and stress sorted out now!

@MooBaggage safe travels home. Glad you've had a wonderful time

alltablenochairs · 30/01/2026 22:16

Thread 12! Have I really been around that long? And lots of lovely newbies as well. Of course everyone is welcome and unlike a lot of other threads, we are in it for the long haul.

A very long one in my case. I started MJ in October 2024 with a BMI of 45. To date I have lost around 45kg and now have a BMI of 30.5. I still have another 20kg to lose to get to a 'healthy' BMI. I was told by a consultant that doing nothing wasnt an option (it was a conversation I elicited to be fair). A lifetime of slimming world, weight watchers and just about every other diet club you can imagine hadn't done much if at all anything so MJ it was. The trousers I am wearing tonight are probably too big now bit theyre some of my all time faves and super elasticated so they're staying. When I started they were too small.

I dont have any plans for after MJ yet. I dont even have an end goal yet. Just keep on keeping on.
