A supportive, idea-sharing thread for those with more than 5 stone/30kg to lose. We're a mixture of newbies, nearly theres, there and maintaining and we know what it's like to have what can seem like a mountain to climb - but we also know we can do it!

Nothing is off topic except referral codes 😊

@MooBaggage You look FABULOUS! What a transformation. Feel ALL the happy things - you've earned it. Love the dress too.

MooBaggage · 02/06/2026 21:49

thanks 😍 I wish I wasn't so rectangle-y..?! I feel like I'm getting definition around my neck and shoulders, and I can see the weight loss, but still feel like I look big?! But I've got 12lbs to go for a healthy BMI and I want to then lose another half a stone to make sure I'm in the low BMI 24s, so that might a bit more difference to my actual shape?! But I can recognise the change - getting there..!

Goodness your face and neck! You look so elegant.

nailslikeknives · 03/06/2026 00:13

@MooBaggageyou look amazing! Congratulations!

I’m posting today to say a huge (but slim!) thank you for this thread. I’ve found it so helpful and supportive. I’ve only posted a few times, but read it most nights.
It’s a year now since I started WLI at 18 St 5lb, I’m now 10 st 5lb, at the top of a healthy bmi and with roughly 1/2 a stone to go until I reach my last goal. So I’ll be hanging around here a while longer as I’m losing very slowly now, hoping to establish a set weight before titrating down. I’m on 5.6 which is 45 clicks from a 7.5mg pen, I don’t think I’ll go any higher.
My blood pressure is normal again and clothes shopping is a joy. I walk a lot but I’ve got some loose skin and really need to start doing weights at home - would love recommendations/links to any routines you have found helpful.

MoneyJo · 03/06/2026 07:07

Well done @nailslikeknives that's amazing.
I would be interested in any recommendations to routines too.

MooBaggage · 03/06/2026 08:18

@nailslikeknives that's brilliant - I hope to be where you are in a few months' time! It's so heartening to hear when people get to that healthy BMI - gives me hope!

So I bought 2 x lots of hand weights from Decathlon. I have 1 x 3kg pair that live in the kitchen and I do 10 x squats with them (so I squat and then as I'm rising back up I raise my arms with them) each time I make a coffee. Sounds very small, but has made a real difference. After the 10 x squats, while the coffee's still being brewed I'll have my arms above my head and do knee lifts on the spot! That at least means I'm doing something every day for a few minutes each time (takes about 2 mins for the coffee to be made and I have 3 - 4 each day).

I also have 5kg hand weights that I do stuff with, but must admit have gone off the boil recently as I have to get them out and get off the settee....

I have found routines via Instagram - Sally Gunnell is good to follow as she does stuff for women my age as that's her age too! Once you follow someone like her, you'll get lots of other Insta stuff - I take short routines that I think I'll be able to do and then put my own stuff together.

I also highly recommend Yoga with Adriene on YouTube - am now officially obsessed and tend to do some at least once, usually twice a day. I love her morning/stretch stuff for the morning and I always do one of her bedtime ones at night. I feel like this is making a difference to my posture and arm and leg strength - I can get out of breath at times with it, but mainly just feel lovely and refreshed afterwards!

You look fabulous @MooBaggage!

@nailslikeknivesbrilliant milestone. Are you going to stay on a maintenance dose long term or aiming to come off entirely at some stage?

im on 5mg still but need to move up next week, as there is still quite a good bit of food noise. Pre pregnancy the weight dropped off on the WLIs but post pregnancy now it’s much slower. Not complaining but need to give myself a reality check every so often!

I’m still easing my way back into my peloton rides, and starting a postnatal reformer Pilates so hoping these both help.

wow @MooBaggage if it wasn't for your amazing smile, dimples & bright gorgeous eyes, you hardly look like the same woman!

You look a million bucks.
well done 🥝🥝

RobinEllacotStrike · 03/06/2026 15:42

and I'm overjoyed you have found yoga

nailslikeknives · 03/06/2026 18:30

@MooBaggagethanks, I think fitting in small pockets of time sounds very efficient! I like Pilates but I’m not very good with consistency, partly because the dvd I like takes 90mins.

@peonymi think I’ll try to stay on at least a year after I reach my goal, another person here gave v useful info on set weight. It seems like it takes your body a year to get used to the new weight and to accept it as the set weight, rather than continuously trying to gain weight back to what you were. She said it much more clearly than I am!

Questions1234 · 03/06/2026 22:12

I’ve been on MJ since January 2025. I’ve lost 55kg and discovered an obsession with exercise. I had the weirdest NSV today that I wanted to share with anyone starting out, or having a wobble. I, very nicely and politely, got asked to leave my gym’s summer lean challenge after they reviewed my body scans. Turns out my fat and muscle levels were all good. Always room to be fitter and stronger, but for the first time in my life ever, not smaller. Was a bit 🤯😳.

To those asking about exercise/routines… I have said this before so sorry for the repetition for anyone who has heard it before. I would find something that fits and works with your life, and crucially you enjoy. I started with walking (5k steps, then 10k, 15k etc) then couch to 5k, then built on that and am now pondering my first half marathon. Similarly I started with short Pilates sessions on YouTube, then started on weights at home, then joined a gym and now signed up for a hyrox in October. Find something you do because you enjoy it, and it’s then something for you, rather than a chore.

MoneyJo · 04/06/2026 07:37

I could cry this morning - with relief. I have just lost another pound and am in the next stone bracket. I briefly touched this weight 8 years ago when I lost a load of weight then put it back on again. This time around I know that thanks to MJ I will keep losing.

Well done to both of you. That’s amazing. Too lean for the lean challenge and 2 stone in just over 2 months. Wow.

Onegramatatime · 04/06/2026 10:44

@MooBaggage , what lovely pics!!! Congratulations on your weight loss so far!! You look fab in both pictures, i must say, obvious great personality shining through. But the more recent pic, there is an air of happy contentment around you..at peace. I could steal your smile and dimples.

Please, do paste the youtube link of the actual Adriene's yoga you do. I see so many and i can't seem to find/know the ones i think you are referring to!

Her videos are so many and I would like to start one with purpose if that makes sense rather than just starting a random one without quite knowing why i am doing that one. I am not knowledgeable yoga-wise.

Reginaphalangeeeee · 04/06/2026 14:47

Fantastic photos @MooBaggage you look wonderful in both. Wow what weight loss though.
I am afraid I am not so confident to show my face as you, but do have a NSV.
i think I may have collar bones now.
unfortunately, a creapy neck too but included a photo. Maybe I will find a before one too.

  • it seems I didn’t really have a neck before. I also was very careful I. Any previous photo to hide that with either a hand, scarf, someone else’s face or the camera angle above.

Having a bit of a tough time since my skin surgery. Feeling quiet low and motivation poor.
i did managed to get my running shoes back on an did a gentle jog.
eating wise I need a talk with myself. Not really hungry so eating is an effort but seem to be craving chocolate last few days and given into that. Not eaten much, but it’s a habit and thought on my mind I don’t like. Suspect not eating enough which is adding to cravings.
low energy also likely related but low mood hard to shift as I gear back up to work I feel overwhelmed somehow.
trying to keep sight of positives and prioritise rest.

Bunnyjo · 04/06/2026 22:42

Wowzers, @MooBaggage - you look absolutely fantastic! And @Reginaphalangeeeee, you definitely have (visible) collar bones now. I know it could be lighting, but honestly your skin looks far more glowy now. Well done, @MoneyJo, a new 'big number is a great achievement!

SW: 15st 5.5lb
CW: 9st 3lb
Loss: 86.5lb
Current BMI: 22.8
Target Weight 1: 12st 1lb (overweight BMI) - Achieved!
Target Weight 2: 10st 1lb (healthy BMI) - Achieved!
Target Weight 3: 9st 5.5lb (6st loss) - Achieved!
Final Target: 8st 8lb - 9st 1lb (I think...)

I feel happy with where I am now; I look in the mirror and don't feel like I need to lose anymore weight. However, I know I would be watching the scales constantly, so I am still aiming for a few more lbs weight loss. Whilst I have said 8st 8lb to 9st 1lb is my target, I am not stuck on those numbers and I might find that 3-4lbs is enough. In any case, I think I will be at whatever my target is in the next month.

In other good news, the gym is just part of my life now; I go 3-4 times a week and I can feel the benefits as well as see them. Someone has taken the snack and wine loving Bunnyjo that I knew for so long and replaced her with a gym and healthy food loving stranger!

MooBaggage · 05/06/2026 08:24

Awwww @MoneyJo that's lovely - so good to hit numbers we haven't seen for years (and years!) - I've found it so emotional, which I suppose I hadn't expected when I started out on MJ - mainly because I didn't believe it was going to be any different this time around - so it's incredible when it actually is. Well done and you are getting there!!

@Reginaphalangeeeee I see that collar bone! 😍I'm still shocked by my collar bones - and I can actually feel ribs now!!

@Onegramatatime These are my Yoga with Adriene regulars at the moment, but I do keep trying different ones:

Mornings

I do this one most mornings I've also done this one in the mornings as an alternative this is a good morning one if you only have 10 minutes but want to feel like you've done something!

Bedtime

I love this one before going to bed A 10 minute bedtime one!

Flexibility
I like this one - good for lower back/hips

for all round flexibility (I'm so not flexible - should probably do these ones more often!)

- YouTube

Enjoy the videos and music that you love, upload original content and share it all with friends, family and the world on YouTube.

Exactly this @MooBaggage it feels so different now after so many years spent trying and it not working.

Off to look at the yoga clips.

Zebracat · 05/06/2026 10:41

@Reginaphalangeeeee Are you eating enough? Think you need to maybe force yourself a bit,I’m just worried about the low energy/ mood. I eat a small bar of chocolate most days, but not instead of proper food. Your photo is amazing. You look fantastic, positively swanlike. Keep that beautiful pointy chin up!

RobinEllacotStrike · 05/06/2026 10:57

@Reginaphalangeeeee those photos are incredible - well done. You've been dealing with so much personally as well through all of this - be kind and gentle with yourself.

I loved the reemergence of my collar bones & my shoulders getting strong with yoga. Having gorgeous collar bones makes up for the saggy top arm skin and there was an article in one of the papers this week declaring collar bones/shoulders to be "in fashion" 😁😂 - at last its my moment to be "in fashion".

Thanks for sharing your photos - the difference is amazing. great work!

@Reginaphalangeeeee , Wow! Wow! Wow!
Yep! Definitely have collar bones. And a beautiful neckline!
Sorry, to hear you are feeling low and not quite back to your normal self. Good on you for getting your running shoes on again. Endorphins releasing activities will help a lot.
The low energy and low mood make a vicious cycle. Doing stuff like running, strength training, going for a walk etc will help break that cycle.
Also, try eating a bit more and be kind to yourself. If you can not stress/worry about how you are feeling but instead tell yourself 'this is a moment to be kind to myself, enjoy the quiet times, be grateful for a successful surgery and it is perfectly normal to feel this way' (speaking from experience), it can help reset the low mood.

It will get better. You mentioned work, when do you go back? As the time approaches that can feel overwhelming. One day at a time. Face tomorrow when it comes.

Edited to add: Does your work provide counselling for being off sick and phased return to work? I am having counselling paid for by work and occupational health recommended phased return. It's helped me with the anxiety and overwhelming feeling. But it's tough and i understand you

@MooBaggage , @RobinEllacotStrike

I made these crackers.
https://www.gimmesomeoven.com/seed-crackers/

I did a little batch exactly as the recipe (friends and family loved this one).

Another little batch with Treacle (this was nice. I love Liquorice).

Then another little batch with golden syrup (this was my fave).

I will spread them even thinner on the baking paper next time... i had to bake them longer than 20 minutes each side to get them crispy. I think they are slightly overbaked ??slightly burnt.

Did this happen with you? How thin did you spread it on the baking paper?

Seed Crackers

This healthy seed crackers recipe is easy to make, packed with nutrients, and SO incredibly delicious. You're going to love them!
