Big price increases?

Anyone else seen this chatter about massive price increases announced for MJ (to pharmacies) in the last hour or so?

Very concerning as it looks like it could double the cost of some of the doses. I'll try to find the copy of the letter sent out...

I’m in Australia, no price increases that I’ve heard of yet, for 7.5 its $589 or £282 a month. Even with the golden dose it’s a massive cost. Is the UK similar price wise? I think the cheapest way was to pay for the biggest pen and micro dose it, but actually forking out that money, it’s really not obtainable.

In the UK you could get a 2.5mg pen for about £100 or slightly more. Going up to about £200 for the 15mg.

Now it looks like 2.5mg is going to start around £150-175 and go up to around £275-325 for the 15mg.

how long does Mounjaro keep unopened in fridge ?

My current pens have use by dates of Nov 26 and Feb 27. Unopened and kept between 2-8C. The clock on 30 days is only from getting warmed up and/or first needle being used in it.

It’s been a con for years, and this is no different it won’t reduce American prices because of their insurance companies profiteering. But all the hype around this being the orange one’s fault will make him look good to his ardent followers. And that’s all he cares about.

The American healthcare system is the biggest con in the world. Even if we lost the NHS we would never more to that model, it would be more like one of the other successful models across the world

Controversial but I wouldn’t mind moving to a different healthcare system not American! But there are plenty that work better than the NHS does now.

It has an expiry date on, mine are December 2026 and Jan 2027 on my 2 spare 15mg pens.

DBatteryBand · 15/08/2025 09:09

Just had a mail shot sort of email from Oushk. It says customers can only order two pens...I ordered 3 yesterday and paid for them, so shall wait and see what happens.

I pay £145 for 15mg pens.
I paid £92 for my first 2.5mg pen.

Email I received from The Family Chemist Online :

This is an important update from the Directors at The Family Chemist regarding a change that will affect all Mounjaro users in the UK.

From 1st September 2025, the manufacturer of Mounjaro, Eli Lilly, will be increasing the UK list price by approximately 170%. While the exact figures have not yet been confirmed, we will share these with you as soon as they are available.

We understand this may be concerning, so we want to reassure you that The Family Chemist has always remained competitively priced across all doses and will continue to do everything possible to keep our prices fair while ensuring ongoing access to your treatment.

If you are considering alternatives, we also offer Wegovy and Nevolat. Switching will require you to restart at the lowest dose and take a short break between treatments. Our prescribers are available to discuss whether this is a suitable option for you.

To help manage costs, we also provide Clearpay as a payment option, allowing you to spread the cost over multiple instalments.

Today, we have seen a record number of orders from patients seeking to purchase Mounjaro ahead of the increase. Please be aware that Eli Lilly has introduced a cap on our Mounjaro supply for the next two weeks. Once our current stock is sold, we will not be able to restock until the cap is lifted. For this reason, we advise a gainst panic buying.

15mg here is £330 currently.

Just ordered my usual 2.5 with Oushk this morning (not stockpiling - I was due to order anyway and am lucky that 2.5 works for me and I can afford the increase).

I found it interesting that I could only choose 28-30 August as delivery dates. It would not let me pick any other date.

I had a minor panic as thought we were going away that weekend and then realised we are going away the week before. I suppose they won't let you set a September date as that's when the new prices kick in.

I don't know what they are going to do when those delivery dates fill up though. Start charging the new prices for orders made in August but delivered in September 🤔

I shop with med express there only seems an option for one pen?

India4 · 15/08/2025 09:15

Sorry to be utterly stupid…how do I order 2 pens from Med Express there only seems an option for 1?

FourIsNewSix · 15/08/2025 09:16

They don't need those sales in UK market.

They don't have unlimited manufacturing capacity, and are introducing the drug to other markets. Trump and US aside, the price in the UK is currently lower than in some EU countries (my country has lower purchasing power and it costs approx 1,5 times more here than private prescription in the UK).

I suppose the UK was an introductory market, they started there with some price politics, but they can sell some of the pens in UK for the increased price and the rest elsewhere.

I have been at it for 14 months and I have lost 6 stone and I have maintained at 8 stone 10 for 3 months (I am 5 ft tall) This has been a life changer for me and I had accepted I would be on it for the foreseeable!

I feel crushed! We cant justify the increased cost. It was helping massively with my endometriosis as well! It seems to reduce the swelling and stop the cravings for sugar.

You have about the same stats as me - also 6 stone in 14 months. Also gutted. I was planning to come off anyway, but felt so much safer knowing I could go back on if need be. Not any more - I probably could pay the difference, but I can't justify it, if that makes sense. I already felt guilty when it was £150 a month.

Ouch. Thats the price they are talking about it going up too... hence everyone now trying to stock pile.

How would people feel about a standard cost for Mounjaro regardless of what strength you’re on. It’s what my UK based supplier does and it’s what happens where I live as well. A 2.5 pen is exactly the same price of a 15. Does that appeal to anyone?

Not if it means a hike in the 2.5mg tbh: that’s unfair as a strategy for keeping these costs down. I have used 2.5mg for months and do t think my price increase should be any more than someone on 15mg

Two companies did lives last night.

MMP gave firm written numbers in their TikTok live chat that they’ve decided in from 1st Sept - don’t know how they’re been able to confirm so quickly.

2.5mg £137
5mg £178
7.5mg £215
10mg £239
12.5mg £251
15mg £271

Oushk (Hira) verbally said they are thinking 2.5mg will be around £150-160 and 15mg will be around £320-330 but stressed this was still to be confirmed when they have negotiate with Lily.

If these prices are accurate, then they are ok ish as there are many suppliers currently charging similar prices.

I can cope with the £200 or so price point as my aim is not to actually hit the highest dose. I'm only on 15 weeks in at the moment with at least 4 or 5 stone more to lose.

It will also be interesting to see how this pricing settles and how many people transfer to Wegovy as well.

Weepixie · 15/08/2025 09:34

@chowmeinz Good point - I’m just curious as Ive never really thought about it before.

I'm on 2.5. Someone on 15 is using 6 times as much medicine as me. Why would it be fair for me to pay more?

Apropos of nothing, does anyone know how to count the clicks on a 5mg pen?

gimmemounjaro · 15/08/2025 09:38

Novo Nordisk, who make Wegovy, must be rubbing their hands together with glee - might be temporary if they too are forced to raise prices, but £££ in the short term for them as people move over.

One dose, in any pen, is 60 clicks. If you have 5mg and want a dose of 2.5mg (for example), it's 30 clicks. And so on.
